kalon name: Rowen Lore
spell: vacua est anima
what the spell does/how the kalon uses it: (1000 word limit)
We are but the sum of our memories. Our personalities, our being, our reasoning, our very self, are shaped by what we remember. Memories of rejection can change one into a creature wishing for love, or perhaps one who fears attachment. The stabbing memories of pain and fear could drive one to be a hero, to be fearless and bold and have a skin of iron, and yet could also drive another to wish that very pain and fear onto others, to become a demon poisoned by their past. The recollection of an idol, a person one looks up to, molds their future, their aspirations, and the recollections of ones' enemy alters their dreams, changing their morality, their ethics and what they were once unwilling to do, now happy to commit.
This was what Rowen has learned from the townspeople's requests, for him to erase their pain or hope through removing their memories. Kalons changed because of the simple removal of a mother's gentle smile or a traitor's hated face, changed in such a way that they can no longer be recognized as who they once were. But even as he warned the citizens of the town the sheer risks of such an unrecoverable act, they kept asking, and he was helpless against their pleas, for his own memories of promises and childhood wishes prevented him from refusing a cry for help. And as
He has seen kalons changed just from the simple removal of a mother's painful smile, or a traitor's hated face. Memories were what made kalons who they were now, and having even small parts missing from their history completely twisted their original personality. But as much as he warned the people, they still came to him, asking for memories that plagued them to be removed, and when Rowen fled, news spread of his spell, and more came to him, wishing to be happy. But how can one understand the value of happiness when they've never felt pain? Joy was meaningless, wasn't it, without the darker sides of life?
It was never his intention for the spell to be used in such a way, and this was not the fame he wished for when he learned magic, when he started to create spells.
His spell of memory removal, vacua est anima, with the meaning of 'empty soul', was cursing the world.

kalon name: corvus (corvus is the genus of which species like ravens are distributed)
spell: accio motus! (motus meaning motivation in latin)
what the spell does/how the kalon uses it: ravenclaws are smart, sure, but not all of them are book smart. its a romanticized idea that ravenclaws pass every class with flying colors, and get the best grades out of any other house. the true ravenclaws are the ones who were called gifted as kids and now have to deal with inflated expectations, who stay up for hours reading their favourite books but can’t muster the strength to do their charms homework, whose grades suffer because their passion lay outside the curriculum. this spell is for them. it is a spell uttered only within the ravenclaw common room, unknown to outsiders. it was created for the nights where doodling, reading, or listening to music rule their inspiration and leave nothing for homework.
tonight, corvus lies in bed, purple crescent moons seem to be permanently stamped underneath her eyes. her wand is held between her teeth, emitting a ray of light which reflects off her book. the room is dark, the only light came from beneath corvus’ sheets, illuminating the silhouette of her body hunched over the novel. it was midnight. she had an essay due in the morning, but right now, the heroine was just about to defeat her rival, once and for all! her brain won the battle against her heart, and corvus willed herself to put the book down. how could she write an essay on the dangers of self-transfiguration now? she huffed, grabbing a piece of parchment and a quill from her bedside table. she put her quill to paper, but nothing came from it. she waited. again, nothing. her mind was far from transfiguration; she was in a land far far away. this wouldn’t do. it was half past midnight. without the novel’s captivating words, her eyes grew heavy and threatened to fall. she grabbed her wand, and with a flick of her wrist, she muttered, “accio motus!”
her quill couldn’t write her ideas fast enough. she was in bed by 3:00am, which would have granted her a longer sleep than usual. even so, she reached for her book. someone should develop a sleep-deprivation spell next, she thought, before delving into her faraway land of heroes and villains

kalon name: Illysus
spell: Tenebris Refractim
what the spell does/how the kalon uses it:
the spell creates a zone of “purity” if you will- a ring which will protect the caster and anyone in contact from both literal darkness and the darkness present in others- though it takes an experienced witch or wizard to cast this spell as it takes enormous energy which is drawn directly from the caster
How the kal uses it:
Illysus was no one special. Young, strong, drafted. I’m sure you’ve heard the story before. However, Illysus always carried his wand. Especially in a foreign zone surrounded by war towns and gunfire. He was never a fighter- nor was he a deserter. When Illysus experiences firsthand the atrocities of war he could not sleep, he could not eat, he had to find a solution. Wondering over yet another sleepless night and the familiar grooves of his wand, the enemy lines launched a surprise attack. Illysus had panicked, rushing to and fro and waking everyone- RALLY THE TROOPS he screamed, he had lost too many this couldn’t happen again. Not again. So many battalions disappeared. The enemies came closer, advanced. His mates dropped like flies. In an outburst, Illysus strung out his wand, shouting in a language he knew not of... and yet it was instinctual. A blinding light shot through the camp- though in the chaos which consumed them it could very well have been enemy fire- and yet... the enemies had been knocked back. His team was safe... for now. He kept the other troops back- willing his to leave him- to find safety. They did so... assuming he was dead. Largely to the muggle world he would be, appearing as a ‘myth’ or ‘ethereal figure’ to those who saw him. But Illysus kept coming back. Protecting those who could not protect themselves. Saving anyone who had been subject to the wars. Illysus is battered and torn- but has a good heart. He will continue to watch over the innocents in their times of need, paired with his arsenal of spells, Illysus uses Tenebris Refractim to help civilians and soldiers alike to safety.

kalon name:
sybill ;; goes by either sybill or bill
spell:
ars viventem ;; living art
what the spell does/how the kalon uses it:
anyone who ever knew bill knew she was a ravenclaw from the day she born. she always had a inquisition for everything in this word, and especially for anything that was living. as she grew older her yearning for knowledge on the natural sciences and biology only grew stronger and by the time she was ready for Hogwarts, hearing the word 'ravenclaw!' was redundant, and already knowledge to everyone but apparently the sorting hat who made this 'discovery'. bill spend her years focusing her knowledge on the mythical creatures and plants of the wizarding word, more interested in them and how they words than in spells, something that made her stick out form her peers who were fascinated by the mystery of spells. most of her peers sent their days trying to master existing spells or learn how to create new ones, but this idea never appealed to bill. she saw no reason as to why anyone would need to make more spells when we still know next to nothing about half of the flora and fauna of the wizarding world. research and effort would be better spent here than in spell creation.
despite this disinterest in spell creation, one day bill found her self working towards this seemingly unnecessary goal. bill loved pouring over text books filled with diagrams of various magical organisms, but she always felt that the colorful 2D diagrams were never able to fully portray the information that they held, and that this created a gap and knowledge between what the writers were trying to convey and what the readers could understand. bill felt that one way to create a better understanding of natural sciences would to be able to have a spell that could create a 3D hologram- like 'living' image from any 2D image.
after bill spent nearly a whole year going through the trial and error of creating her master spell, she finally had all the detail down and the spell was ready for mass use with little technical requirements for the user to master. bill was so satisfied with her creation, and how she was no able to pull any diagram of body systems, cells, skeletons, etc. right off the page and hold it in her hands. she was able to understand them better from every angle, look at multiple 3D images at once and see how they would work together, and she was even able to turn some of her own field note sketches on new or rare species into 3D drawings for others to better visualize and understand. bill's spell did help many students learn how to study better and get a more in depth knowledge in school, but her spell also hugely took off in a way she didn't quite expect.
because the spell could turn any 2D image 3D, not just printed images, the spell became a staple of the art community. this spell allowed artists to literally allow their drawings and paintings to come to life. many people would use this to their advantage and either make performance pieces out of their original 2D pieces, working with their 'alive art'. some artists would only show gallery's as 'alive' art. some artist would make their reference images 3D so they would draw something from all angles. although bill intended her spell to be a scientific study tool, it has now become more of an artists tool. bill doesn't mind the shift in use,
and she is glad that her spell has benefited such a large community, but now bill is one of the minority's that uses the spell for its original intentions.
How to correctly cast ars viventem
spell name and pronunciation;;ars viventem - has to be said in a clear crisp voice with a clear distinct pause between words and a slight lift in the tone of the speaker's voice at the end of the word
wand movement;;the wand has to be waved in a spiral like pattern moving further away from the image, with the tip of the wand pointing at the paper or object with the image on it. mimic the motion of pulling the image off the page while making a spiral with the tip of the wand
spell activation;;when the spell is successfully completed, a small burst of light will appear, engulfing the paper with the image, similar to flash paper, and the paper will disappear and be replaced by a hovering 3D version of the image. the 'alive' image will be the same size as the original image, and will be capable of being moved around and rotated similar to that of a hologram.
rules and limitations of the spell;;time - the image will only stay 'alive' for 12 hours exactly, once the time is up a similar bust of light will transform the 'alive' image back to the original 2D format
usage - once any image has been make 'alive' then the spell can never be used on this image again by the same user (each wizard can only use the spell on a specific image once)
size - the 'alive' version of the spell will be the exact same size of the original image, no larger or smaller. most spells are casted on images roughly the size of a regular sheet of paper for easier control of the 'alive' image

kalon name: Piper
spell: Piper is able to make the invisibility cloak.
what the spell does/how the kalon uses it:
"I'm writing this as fast as I can, I here them coming. It's no longer safe here." She whispers to herself while writing as her hands tremble in fear.
"The castle I have found with 3 others is immensely massive, you'd think I could hide. But even my magic cannot save them, I can just barely save myself." She puts her writing utensil down, and quickly grabs her wand. "I will make something.." she whispers to herself. "I will make something, that will never be found again." Suddenly, out of the corner of her eye she sees shadows. It suddenly becomes hard for her to breathe as she grabs her notebook & ink.
"Unveil never, reveal when sought, let me hide, Invisiclock!"
Everything goes white. She cannot see.
Suddenly they are there. In the room. Piper is prepared to be killed, or worse. But they scavenge trying to find her for hours, maybe even days she couldn't tell, then left.
"I'm in the open" she says as she tries to process what just happened. "I'm in the open how did they not see me?" Piper then realizes something is keeping her warm, how had she not noticed before?
A cloak, but she could not see it. Piper could feel it, but where was it? Invisible, she called it. An invisibility cloak.
Piper quickly wrapped the cloak around her waist and ran to find the others, she had not found any of her colleagues. But, found a small house a few kilometres away from the castle in the woods. Lived there was a man named Pertick Potter, whom she gave the cloak to and left very specific yet vague instructions.
-Never let this cloak be used for evil.
-Never give it away until death. Keep it in the family.
-Stay safe.
Pertick became frightened, he didn't want this responsibility. "What is th-" She was gone before he could ask.

kalon name: Patterson Quince
Patterson looked up at the darkening sky. Gray clouds rolled overhead and the air held the scent of approaching rain. The kalon fluffed up his thick coat, drawing his house colors up closer around his neck. The scarf had been a gift from his aunt, who was a headmaster here, when he had first come to Hogwarts to master the art of magic. He continued on, away from the castle, a worn scroll clutched in his teeth. He was lost in thought when a friendly face approached and he almost continued on past her.
"Pat? Helloooo."
He halted quickly, setting the scroll on the ground and placing his paw carefully in front to protect it.
"Oh, hey Daisy," he replied. "I'm sorry, I didn't realize it was you."
The pretty kalon smiled at him understandingly, a black and gold Hufflepuff scarf tossed across her shoulders. "No worries, kiddo," she smiled. "Where are you off to?"
"Oh uh nowhere," he lied awkwardly. "Just going to study somewhere quiet."
Daisy didn't seem convinced. "Okay, well have fun. Studying. In a storm. I have to go take an exam... I don't think I'm going to do very well. I've been studying for days but I'm just so nervous everything seems to just run right out of my head."
She frowned slightly before bidding him goodbye one more time, and then turned and continued down the path, her tail hanging low to the ground. She had always been good at hiding her emotions, but Patterson knew her well enough to understand that she was quite frightened at the thought of not doing well. He waited for her to be out of hearing distance, and slipped his mahogany wand out of his robes.
"Relinscilous phobiarum."
Daisy paused suddenly, standing very still for a moment, and then her tail lifted up, continuing on down the path, a new cheer to her step. Patterson watched a swirling black and red orb drift out her back like a ghost. He stared at it for a moment, swallowed his nerves, and then allowed it to float toward him. It entered his own chest with a quiet sucking sound and his mood immediately took a nosedive. Intense worry wracked his mind. He gulped in a breath, restored his wand to its position, picked up his scroll, and continued on, Daisy's worries circling his own mind. He knew she would do much better on her exam now.
Raindrops began dripping down his face and he picked up speed, so the scroll would not suffer any damage. Soon he reached the edge of the forbidden forest. He stepped inside, the extra darkness enveloping him. He wandered about until he found a herd of deer. He sat a few yards away and quietly watched their slender bodies as they grazed. And he waited.
Soon a crack of thunder shook the air. The deer looked up. Patterson took out his wand. Another crack came. The deer began to run and at their first step Patterson spoke his homemade spell once more.
"Relinscilous phobiarum."
Black orbs drifted out of the deer, one by one, and floated toward Patterson. He watched the deer pause. A moment later, their tension subsided, and they continued to graze. He steeled himself and allowed the orbs to enter him once more. It was a dreadful feeling. One day, he hoped, he would find a way to make it so no one had to be afraid, not even the caster, but for now he watched the carefree deer, white tails flicking happily, and let the fear take him instead.
