Tale: Firenze didn't expect the old man to approach him one wintery afternoon while he was grazing, but he did. Firenze didn't expect the man to ask him for help, but he did. And Firenze most especially did not expect to agree to help the man, but he did. And it turned out to be one of the best decisions the equine ever made.
The man had an old horse who could no longer pull their beautiful classic sleigh, and the children- the children of the village near where Firenze made his home, wanted their Christmas rides through the wintery haven that was the woods. He hadn't realised his trusty old mare would not be able to pull the sleigh, and was caught unprepared. It was the highlight of his year, bringing the Christmas magic to the children through the natural world he so loved, and would Firenze honour him enough to help, just for the one year. The children had so little to look forward to normally...
The old man had been good to Firenze and the other Sabers that lived nearby, as had the villages- they often left out bread scraps and other goodies, and giving the man a nod, he followed back to his old barn, and agreed to the harness, allowing the man to fasten the straps to his hide. He even accepted the bells that would create the sound and sight of the perfect Christmas ride.
Dragging the sleigh through the snow was easy, being such a big horse, and even more so when Firenze used his power to just slightly melt the snow a little bit under his feet, the sleigh moving even easier of the slightly softened snow. As they reached the village, and the children amassed around, the joy and laughter and happiness in their eyes surprised the large being, and he snorted for a moment, trying to take it all in. The old man gave him a moment, knowing Firenze was unused to human hands, but it was a child, maybe 5 or 6, that made Firenze decide to take the next step. The beautiful little child stepped up towards the massive creature, and in a voice that sounded like snowflakes falling on flowers, she asked kindly, 'May we give you a pat, Master Saber?"
Firenze felt his heart thaw (figuratively- it never really was frozen), and the joy of the children was a sight to behold, the old man watching silently with a tear in his eye.

And Firenze most especially did not expect to agree to help the man for as many years as he wanted to give the children the ride. It turned out to be one of the best decisions the equine ever made.
