hobbies/history: [set during 1941/1942 during the Siege of Leningrad] Juniper’s parents were killed off during the Nazis’ brutal siege of Leningrad, leading her to resort to pickpocketing and looting bodies for goods and food to keep herself alive for the remainder of the brutal and cold war. Hunger and cold became the city's greatest enemies. As the brutal Russian winter approached, water pipes froze and broke, denying the residents drinking water. Civilians in Leningrad suffered from extreme starvation, especially in the winter of 1941–42. From late months of 1941 to early 1942 the only food available to the citizen was 125 grams of bread per day, of which majority of which consisted of sawdust and other inedible admixtures, this causing many citizens to turn to cannibalism, Juniper wouldn’t give up on her hometown and was always sharing her rations with children and offering her loot to those in greater need. January 25th, 1942

The winter in Leningrad hit hard, temperatures dropping way below average. When you walk down the street you pass by people tugging around on sleds, carrying the deceased. No one had the strength to perform a proper burial for each person...it makes me sad thinking about where they go. Death became routine, with the harsh conditions we were forced to live in during the siege. People wander around with empty buckets searching for water...I feel so bad because I cannot help them. There is no water, the pipes are frozen...at this rate we will all perish here and be buried in the snow and be forgotten. I’m scared...I’m defenseless, I’m hungry...I wish my parents were still here. It’s so cold.

Anya LIKES very few kalons and is indifferent toward the rest. She has difficulty trusting others and mostly just fears for her creations. She likes being motherly and caring for others, always putting them before herself. She loves being close to nature.
Anya DISLIKES any sort of confrontation which is why she lives so far from society, though she will fiercely protect her creations from harm. She has little patience for those who seek to destroy nature and those who do not believe in magic. If upset, she is known to lock herself away for weeks without speaking to anyone.

Anya has the most peculiar of hobbies: no one truly knows why and few have dared to ask how she is able to create dolls that come to life. All the inhabitants of the forest surrounding her home, from bees to badgers, were created using nothing but fabric and the contents of her sewing box. It remains a mystery how to she brings them to life - many think she’s a witch or a warlock who casts spells on them, or a mad scientist who builds mechanical skeletons with tiny motors - dozens of theories have circulated around her. She first appeared as what many would call a “child of the forest” - wandering into the nearby town without any memory of a guardian or how she got there. While some kind kalons tried to assimilate her into society, she eventually grew up and was drawn back to where she had come from.

There was only one way to Anya’s cottage, and it wound through the dark forest like a mottled brown serpent, buried by thick tufts of weeds that burst through the underbrush as they grasped for the sparse sunlight above. A thick blanket of fog normally hung over the trees, seemingly muffling the normal forest sounds. You caught sight of a squirrel - no, a bird - on a gnarled oak branch as it arched over the path. The creature - a crow - hopped out and cocked its head to side side, giving an inquisitive squawk. There seemed to be something off about it, and as it hopped along the branch you noticed a long black thread dangling from its tail. The crow turned back around and your breath caught - its eyes appeared to be not eyes at all, but a pair or glazed black beads. The whole creature seemed unnatural, somewhat doll-like as it gazed back at you. Before you could get a closer look it let out a final squawk before fluttering off into the trees.
NOTE: Anya does not have special powers, but rather the spirits of the forest animate her creations for her!

While some may consider Benito to be judgemental and generally a little bit guarded, he is a lot more thoughtful and contemplative than one might first think. He finds himself to be a strong believer in tradition and good manners which he plans to carry on to the next generation.

Having inherited his fathers temper and relatively short patience, Benito doesn't like having to wait around for things to happen to him. He prefers to take action and take control of his own life, so having to wait around for his clients isn't exactly ideal all things considered. Having said that, the only thing that makes it bearable is being able to close his eyes and feel the sun rays on his face and hear the water lapping against the side of his grandfather's gondola - one of the only moments of calm in his usually busy day.

Benito collects people's stories and deepest secrets and notes them down throughout the day - one would be surprised how much tourists are willing to reveal to the humble, friendly gondolier. There are no darker intentions behind his collecting and the stories are only kept purely for the use of inspiration for his novel.

In his free time, Benito works on his book and plans that one day this will be the one to be published to achieve his dream of becoming an author. Not being the most literate person though, he has been spending years trying to make his first published book as perfect as he can get it. For a while he has found himself stuck as to where to weave the plot next and believes that the stories he collects will one day be the finishing touch he needs to inspire him to finish.

"Tell me your story, i miei ospiti onorati..." he said to the couple who had been taking a ride for the last five minutes. A thickened accent and exaggerated air of friendliness usually made for better tips, not to mention the potential uses the answer to this question could have. The male put his arm around the female he was with and together they started to delve into the intricacies of their lives, why they were attracted to each other and more pointless, boring recounting. Benito stopped listening after a minute or so. It was the same, generic love story. He was looking for something more interesting and unusual with a history of hurt and angst, or maybe even just something that wasn't jock meets cheerleader. Nevertheless, he would record it.

"What about you?" the female asked him, expecting a similar answer to the lengthy one that had been offered to him. He spent some time contemplating their combined answer and the question asked before he finally nodded. Benito would give them the same answer he gave everyone else.
"Ah! My story is irrelevant signora and awfully long, but is somehow now a part of yours."

Jeongi is a bit of a wild child, growing up as quite spoilt she is used to getting her way. She is part of the ‘popular’ group at school and can come across as condescending. Jeongi is definitely a night owl but doesn’t much like sleeping in either as she views as a waste of time. Jeongi loves to go canoeing in the summer especially at dusk and dawn when she the stars are reflected in the water and she feels like she’s in the sky itself. This is the one time she is ok being alone, but its fun to share these things with friends. In the city she often gets invited to and goes to parties, although it’s definitely just to dance and hang out with friends than be bothered with guys. She could dance all night long is the beat was right.
