Name: Summers Orchid
Gender: Female
Occupation:
"I am an artist!" Summers says indignantly, wondering how on earth you couldn't tell she's an artist. She spends most of her time in front of her easel, after all. How could you NOT know that!?
How do they feel about flowers and why?:
"I love flowers. The aroma they give off while I'm working...." Summers replies, over exaggerating and over enunciating her words. "Flowers have this sort of calming feel to them, making me more focused and aliiiive."
Summers saunters over to one of the hundreds of plants she keeps in her studio. "This one here.... Oh this is a beauty, but I always keep my lavender and camomile near my easel. I'm to energized by those flowers, unlike some people, who use them to fall asleep. How those people can fall asleep to those aromas is beyond me!
"I usually fall asleep to vanilla and warm honey milk. Mmmm. So good!" Summers flounces over to her petunias. "These are my precious darlings. I adore them, as their colours always POP!" Summers makes a popping sound with her mouth.
"How could one not ADORE flowers? They're my favourite thing to paint! Oh, aren't they glorious?!" Summers puts an orchid in her hair, absorbed in her flowers, clearly too distracted to answer your question any longer.

Name: Earl (Grey)
Gender: male
song: Jen Titus - O' DeathOccupation:Reaper
Earl's occupation is a Reaper; he reaps the souls of the dead and dying, escorting them to the next life. Being a reaper wasn’t a choice, it was what he was told to do and has always done, just like anyone else. In this world when you are old enough, you get sorted into a job that’s you are viewed as the best fitting for you. He hates it. Explaining to a new soul that they have died and must leave everything behind is no easy job; to watch passively as they despair time and time again wears you down. But Earl manages; he remembers each soul that he reaps, marking them down as another line and name. Despite all this, Earl doesn’t bother trying to ask for breaks and instead rises through the ranks, perfecting his responses to different souls and watching the living world to make sure there is no interference.
So Earl has always been a reaper and despite many regrets he accepts that, he is well respected amongst his fellow reapers and the name ‘Earl’ was bestowed upon him as what names a reaper has previously are of no consequence and should be replaced. He is respected as he is efficient with the jobs and never backs down from work although some look down on the fact he tries to remember each soul as it drags him down, makes him less efficient, this is especially true for reapers of higher position than he. Reapers have a hierarchy and while competitive don’t hold each other back and instead encourage growth, this is why they look down on Earl holding himself back.
Holy Sonnets: Death, be not proud
BY JOHN DONNE
Death, be not proud, though some have called thee
Mighty and dreadful, for thou art not so;
For those whom thou think'st thou dost overthrow
Die not, poor Death, nor yet canst thou kill me.
From rest and sleep, which but thy pictures be,
Much pleasure; then from thee much more must flow,
And soonest our best men with thee do go,
Rest of their bones, and soul's delivery.
Thou art slave to fate, chance, kings, and desperate men,
And dost with poison, war, and sickness dwell,
And poppy or charms can make us sleep as well
And better than thy stroke; why swell'st thou then?
One short sleep past, we wake eternally
And death shall be no more; Death, thou shalt die.
How do they feel about flowers and why?:
Earl hates flowers, he hates how they symbolise his regret from his work, always trying to remember each soul by leaving flowers on the grave. When he visits each grave of his victims leaving a single forget-me-not he hates the fact that the flowers, being so delicate, will wilt and wither, fading along with the memories of the victim. Resulting in the fact that the victim will eventually be forgotten and he will remember for years, a whole lifetime, before he too will start to forget and then the forget-me-nots will fade too. He hates flowers as they prove that he has reaped souls and nothing can change that and how when he visits the graves the ir is thick with sorrow and there are other flowers left by family and friends if the deceased and he hates how that brings a flash of guilt.
Earl chose forget-me-nots to leave on the graves as they symbolise:
True and undying love - not for a lover but he views it as retribution, to carry the dead in his heart as to never forget them
Remembrance after death - as he he caused their death he feels he is responsible to remember them even after their souls have long since passed.
A connection that lasts through time - As time passed Earl will continue to exist even if the souls don't
Fidelity and loyalty in a relationship, despite separation - loyalty to remember the lost

Personality:
Serious
Earl has never been one to mess about in free time and certainly not at work. He is quite strict and is viewed as a good mentor for younger Reapers because of it. Earl does not restrict himself in enjoying simple thing like walks in the rain but his seriousness comes through with struggling to understand jokes and a distaste for things he views pointless activities. Others often find it funny at how he can't tell when somethings a joke but that quickly stops when Earl tells them off.
Jaded
Earl is certainly not naive and can be a bit negative on his view of life, but that probably comes with the profession. He does his best to teach younger reapers about how reaping works so that they won't be as disappointed later.
Calm
Earl isn't easily wound up, nor is he easily emotional, this is due to his experience at dealing with spirits and has learnt how to take a step back without seeming cold and distant. Earl also is calm outside of work, preferring more relaxing hobbies such as reading, writing, drawing and listening to music. However, when something does get him worked up he often needs to take a long walk in the countryside to calm down.
Observer
Earl is very good at taking in details as well as the whole picture and is good at reading behaviour, this is also something he became good at through work as he often tries to figure out what sort of spirit he's dealing with before he approaches them

“Hope” is the thing with feathers -
That perches in the soul -
And sings the tune without the words -
And never stops - at all -
And sweetest - in the Gale - is heard -
And sore must be the storm -
That could abash the little Bird
That kept so many warm -
I’ve heard it in the chillest land -
And on the strangest Sea -
Yet - never - in Extremity,
It asked a crumb - of me.

Name: Joanna (Asha)
Gender: female
Occupation: Asha is a witch who lives on her own in a forest outside of a small town. She mostly does spellwork for herself, but occasionally crafts potions and the like for the townsfolk to make ends meet. The gardens surrounding her small cottage help sustain her, and what she can’t use she ends up taking to the market once or twice a month to sell. Overall she's rather self-sufficient, and doesn't like spending too much time around non-magic folk if she doesn't have to.
How do they feel about flowers and why?: {852 word 1st person narrative, 2 art pieces}

Won't you come see my flowers? I'd like them to meet you.
My garden is something of a special place to me, it means more to me than probably any garden does to any other witch. You see, spirit flows through it. Yes, spirit - and not the good kind either! He’s a naughty old boy...but I digress. You asked why my flowers meant so much to me, yes? Well allow me to explain.
Life can get lonely for a witch; living alone, far from the hum and drum of the cities (spirits hate the cities), only seeing others if they happen to stumble upon your cottage - storybook stuff. Anyway, one might not realize the absolutely lack of men in your life when you take up witchcraft. Now I’m not saying there aren’t any male witches (but if there are please do send them my way), I’m just saying I’ve never met one I’ve liked! Who wants to live with a gal who talks to themself anyway? And to their plants? And to the trees? And to the birds- You see where I’m going with this. So I was lonely and wanted a companion, is that too much to ask for? Apparently the spirits thought so!
It took me weeks to gather the components for his summoning, some of the stuff I hadn’t even heard of before: bat ears, spider toes (who even know spiders had toes??!), fairy dust - and let me tell you, for the amount of dust those pipsqueaks produce they sure as heck are protective of it! I was beginning to fear what would come of all this in the end, but I’m not a gal who gives up, oh no. I waited until a new moon in spring, followed every step exactly as my grandmother had written (she had tons of spells to summon things, the spooky old crone), and put the rest in the spirits’ hands. To my surprise, it worked! I had summoned, in my garden, the most fearsome, mischievous, evil, handsome, gorgeous, adorable young man I had ever laid my eyes on. Sure he was a demon, but that made him all the more alluring, don’t you think?
He was the wittiest, sweetest, most perfect companion I could have wished for. I decided that Chasmodeus wasn’t a very becoming name for handsome young man like himself, and renamed him Charles. Finally I had someone I could spend my days with! Unfortunately the honeymoon stage for Charles and I ended fairly quickly. You see, demons - while being devilishly handsome and smart - had the propensity for making mischief. And evil, they were also evil (but hey, we all have our vices). While Charles spent his days with me, his nighttime adventures were getting a little out of hand. Now don’t think I didn’t tell him to stay home, I did! But sometimes he just had trouble controlling his demonic urges, it was understandable! I started hearing disturbing news from the surrounding villages - church bells ringing in the middle of the night, livestock being slaughtered with no animals in sight, blood flowing from the fountains - nothing serious, so I honestly thought they were overreacting. But as things usually go with non-magic folk, they were not very understanding. In fact, they caused me quite a bit of grief with their visits! So with a heavy heart - and to avoid the inevitable torches and pitchforks at my door - I had to send my darling Charles home. And this is where things got tricky.
You see, once a demon has left the underworld, they don’t exactly want to go back - Charles particularly. He loved the perks of this world - tea, biscuits, sunsets, lemonade, me (swoon!), and most of all my flower garden. Boy, I would have never imagined how much a demon could love flowers, but Charles could spend hours in my garden inspecting and tending to my glorious plant children (I imagine there weren’t many flowers in the underworld, right?). It was one of the things I loved about him! What I’m trying to get at here is I just couldn't send the sweet boy home! So after much deliberation I came up with the perfect plan - I would trap him in my garden.
Now trap is a strong word, but it was an entrapment spell that I used. Charles was none the wiser, or else I’m sure he would've run off into the woods and it would’ve taken me days to find him. And so, just as easily as I had summoned him (yes, it took a heck of a lot of preparation!), I trapped my sweet demon into my garden. Let’s just say it took plenty of apologizing from me and a long time for him to get used to it, but soon enough I was being greeted with blooming roses every morning! Don’t get me wrong, he’s still as mischievous as ever, and he doesn’t like visitors very much (he once dropped a hive of bees on the mayor’s head when he came to thank me for ridding them of the demon), but he is and forever will be my sweet Charles.
And that, my dear, is why I love flowers!
{Chasmodeus is a real kal! Check him out here ^^}
