how did they survive? To put it plainly, Whiteout was terrified. The snow was blinding him and the wind pulled his mane and tail this way and that. He called out, hoping his herd would hear him. No answer. This was to be expected, because the wind was howling like an angry deity and the stallion couldn't even hear himself! He took a deep breath and trudged through the deep snow. They had discussed scenarios like these. "Whenever we go somewhere new, look around. Find a forest, a bush, a tree, anything! You will have an anchor to stay with during a snowstorm like that." the leader of his herd had told everyone every time that the winter season came about. But Whiteout had been careless because he thought he had it all down. He hadn't notice the wind and snow picking up or his herd leaving. He stopped and tried to think of the layout the area, just without snow. The wind was ferocious and the cold snow was unforgiving to the stallion, but he continued to try to picture the area. Eventually, he opened his eyes and turned right, hoping what he guessed was right. What felt like miles, but was only a few steps, Whiteout bumped into something. He squinted and nearby leaped for joy when he saw it was a mildly thick tree! And so he stayed pressed up against the tree until the raging storm had passed. It raged for over an hour and a half, almost two hours, but Whiteout was still standing. The cold nipped at his nose and he couldn't feel his hooves. But he noticed that the elements had died down quite a bit. He looked around and his vision wasn't totally dominated by the white of the snow. He could actually see some other nearby trees and maybe some shrubs. Surely the herd had to be back! They had to have realized he wasn't there! It took about 20 more minutes for it to completely die down and Whiteout was shivering. He wasn't as cold as he should be because of his fluffy coat, which helped him greatly, but still cold. Everything was covered by snow and the wind was reduced to a gentle whisper, as if nothing had happened. There was a gentle snow falling instead of the ravenous storm that separated him from his herd. He started moving around to try to create some more body heat and it did little to help. He let out a hopeful neigh to test out if the others were near. Nothing. Another whinny. Nothing. But the third time, he heard the shrill whinny of one of the older mares of the herd. His ears perked up with curiosity and relief. They came back! He saw them come up over a small hill and race towards him and he raced towards them. They all nickered and were joyful that he was alright. They made way for the lead stallion, who nipped him gently in a scolding manner. He then let out a low nicker. Whiteout looked prideful and nickered back. He was home and he never wanted to leave it again.

How did he survive?:
❄️ The stallion looked around blindly for a few moments, his shaggy coat being pummeled by the howling gales and small icicles forming on his fur. With a frightened nicker, he began pushing through the towering snow, neighing loudly in dismay for his herd as the panic started to set in. Christopher thrashed, pushing forward, his large hooves pounding as his eyes wildly tried to make out which direction he was going in. For another restless minute the tolter struggled, flattening his ears and whimpering before finally stopping. This was it. This would be the end for him; with no sense of direction and no shelter, there wouldn't be any possible way for him to survive. Unless... looking up, Chris squinted, trying to see as far as he could through the worsening blizzard. There seemed to be some sort of outline in the distance, possibly a few tall trees. Maybe there would be a haven there? Snorting, the stallion took a large breath of the frigid air in an attempt to calm himself. He began walking forward, taking large strides and leaning into the biting wind, shaking the snow off of himself every few paces. Even if he would not be able to reach the destination for some time, at least the movement would keep his blood warm. The fluffy giant kept churning, his thick coat initially providing a small bit of protection against the weather before it finally enveloped him and slowly started sucking away his energy. Finally, at long last, what had previously appeared to be a thick, protective forest turned out to be a large crimson snow-covered structure with a soft, warm glow emitting from glass panes and melting into the graying light of the blizzard's dusk. The stallion, weary and frostbitten, cautiously approached the barn and sniffed with his large head held high. He really didn't have any other choice... with the snowstorm pounding down and hurling, screeching winds not showing any signs of stopping, this seemed to be his last hope. Chris entered through the mammoth doors and felt a large gust of hot air surround him; the heat felt so wonderful compared to everything he previously went through that he practically melted right there in the entrance. A happy sigh escaped him as he closed his eyes, soaking in as much of the blissful warmth as he could before realizing he didn't even know where he was. His eyes narrowed as he carefully studied the interior of the building for any signs of movement. The barn had quite a high ceiling, a warm yellowish tint to the nut-brown walls and beams from the lit lanterns, many bales of golden hay spilling out of stalls. He waited for a few more moments until satisfied. With another, elongated sigh, he pulled himself towards the sun-kissed straw and collapsed, his feathery hooves giving way. Normally he would sleep standing with his herd, but the blizzard had taken too much out of him. Chris could wait the storm out here and hopefully he would be able to rest in peace. He was safe... for now. ❄️

nat13- your form was simple & sweet, and the art was fantastic! i feel like your story could have used more to it, it seemed somewhat anticlimatic, however it was well written and engaging :).

Escaping Snow

Adeline was brought to us, cold and shivering.
The mountains of Colorado can be a harsh and
unforgiving place, especially to the young and
weak. That is just what she was back then. She
was small and frail. It was very early spring time,
more snow was still falling occationally here and there
and babies would be starting to be born into our
herds. But, for now, the horses were still high in the
mountaintops, and in the next couple weeks, they
would slowly start to move down the mountains as
the foals would be born in the lower valleys where
it was warmer and the grass was flourishing.
Adeline came too soon. Born in the middle of the
last blizzard of the year, she was premature and unable
to stand, her dam was forced to choose between
her own survival and that of her foal. Her herd couldn’t
wait for her. The needs of the herd and that of the
remaining foals to be born pushed them on, leaving
Adeline and her dam near the top of the mountain.
Adeline’s mother begged her baby to stand, and as
she tried, the weaker she became. Until she was so tired
and cold she could hardly move. Her dam cried to her,
mourning her baby who was struggling to survive.
Luckily Adeline and her dam were spotted just as
Adeline was being born by one of the staff members
instructed to count the numbers of the horses coming
down off the mountain and the foals born that year.
He watched Adeline’s birth, knowing it was too soon
and far too cold for the baby. And with the blizzard
getting worse, he immediately took action, calling in a
rescue team to save the foal and ensure the mare
returned to her herd so the baby could hopefully be
reunited with its mother when it was healthy and flourishing.
Adeline was brought to the rescue center, her mother
had ended up abandoning her as rescuers got close,
fearing she was in danger, knowing their was nothing
she could do to save he baby on her own.
The rescuers worked day and night for almost a week
straight to save the tiny foal, first drying her off and
warming her to get her body temperature regulated
and stable. Then she was given fluids to better her
strength so that she could eat. Once she started eating,
everything started working in her favor, she regained
her strength and was able to stand and walk on her own.
She began to get playful and enjoy seeing us come to
feed her. We started to worry that she’d get attached
to us. Our plan was to return her to her mother as soon
as possible and it was planned for the following week.
We located her herd and decided the best plan of action
was to identify her dam and separate her from the herd
to allow mother and baby to reunite peacefully to properly
ensure that the knew each other. We had staff find and
separate her dam and pen her close to her herd so that she
could return safely. We rubbed Adeline with the local grass
and dirt to pull our scent off of her, then released her into
the pen with her dam. The mare was at first wary, then
curious of the new addition. Sniffing the foal she nudged
her, before calling to the foal. Recognition was almost
immediate. The pair was released and blended back
into their herd perfectly. Adeline had her family back,
and she was well on her way to becoming a strong horse.

Personality:
Adeline is that tolter who gets overly excessive with the holidays and traditions. Granted, she is overly excessive in everything she does, because she is almost OCD about things. How they need to be done just right and with plenty of time to spare, but she just wants to do her best all the time. Adeline is quite compassionate and she loves to help others. She is also very protective and this helps her in her job as a Therapy Horse for children with disabilities. She has never let any of the children she works with fall.
Adeline is quite a smart tolter, and she knows what she wants and how she wants others to see her. She is honest, but not in a rude or blunt way, she always tells the truth in order not to hurt anyone's feelings. Adeline also tends to be very understanding and reliable in that if anyone has a problem with something she did or knows about, she can be trusted to listen to them fully and act rationally afterwards, even if its something that might upset her.
Adeline has a down-to-earth outlook on life. She cares deeply for others and always seems to have a gentle, loving attitude. While she does have a slight temper, she strives to show others that she isn't intimidated by their opinion of her. Adeline can be extremely analytical and sometimes critical of herself and others, she strives to guard herself against sarcastic speech and her temper which has been known to drive others away from her when she was younger.
Adeline is very spiritual and believes that after she dies, that she will be reborn again with a greater purpose.
Adeline also attracts males, they are seemingly drawn to her like shes and angel or a goddess. She doesnt even have to try. With all of this atrention she recieves, most of it is unwanted. While she occationally does enjoy to flirt, Adeline prefers her life with Atrox, as she knows he is someone who loves her for just her and not her looks.
Adeline tends to be easily distracted by things she wants. Her heart belongs to the wilderness, that is where she where her ancestors are from, and is where she came from originally. The voice inside her heart calls for the outside world and she longs to see it. To be gruely wild and free. She wonders about it, and sometimes she feels like she belongs there more than she does in the herd, but of course she loves her family. The ones who raised her and being part of a group that needs and loves her. She is very torn.

iStarz - your form had lots of detail and effort and i really liked it! however your story, though well written and engaging, didnt lead off of the prompt i gave. your coding was also pleasing to the eye an made it easy to navigate the form. other than that i feel like i really have a grasp on the personality and kind of tolter adeline is.

Mango30- your form seemed to be lacking in both content and visual effect. the story seemed to be somewhat basic and the expected response, and i was really looking for something out of the box. i do, however, really like the name you chose.

how did they survive?

Memories quickly turned so he faced the way of the forest where he saw most of the kicked up snow. All of a sudden the storm brushed by him it was so dark he walked slowly and made sure he counted his steps. He opened his eyes he could see, better then most in dark spaces but this storm was very harsh on his eyes. The snow pelted his face like little rocks he couldn't keep his eyes open for very long. He pushed through the snow it fleet like it was going to barry him it just keep getting deeper and deeper. He keep pushing on but then all of a sudden he fell, he hit a rock. He just layed there for a sec, he was so cold. He thought for a little, was he going to freeze to death was he lying in his death bed. He shook his head and thought no I am going to make it I got to get up. He stood up and pushed on, after a few mins he felt a little relief he got to the forest. He looked around but it was still too dark, he didn't even hear a sound. He walked further into the forest it was a little warmer then he thought it was he realized he was standing in a small cave now just a little over hang of ground but it was just enough for him to warm up a bit and save some of his energy he started to dig a little into the snow and ground and layed down. After a few secs he fell asleep. He woke about an hour or so and the storm was now close to over it was almost night and it was still snowing not not as bad. He got up and headed back the way he thought he came, he came to the edge of the forest where the clearing was all of a sudden he heard some whinnies he ran towards the sounds and then stopped and whinnied back he heard hoof beats all of a sudden he saw a big blob of colors it was his herd finally he thought I am home

Rescue2001- this is gonna sound really bad on my part but the first thing i noticed was spelling errors. something as simple as that can really make an impression on the overall form, especially when it can easily be fixed either by putting it though a word doc or a spellchecker or even just googling the words. other than that your story also seemed somewhat expected and basic, and didnt really let me see the personality of Memories.

how did they survive?
As you know, being caught in a snow storm is probably something you wouldn't do on purpose
so when young Maximus found himself trapped in a whirlwind of small white bullets it was
surely a shock to the then two year old colt. Being a particularly shaggy specimen of the breed,
Max was initially pretty chill with the situation (hehe puns) as had began to make his way back
to his herd when the wind picked up he began to panic. In a mixture of confusion, panic and
sheer inexperience, Maximus rattled his brain in an attempt to find something that his elders
might have taught him if he were to be caught in such an event knowing that it had come up
once upon a time. Although it had only taken a few minutes for the horse to remember a tactic,
the worsening conditions had made it almost impossible to see two feet infront on him. So
what did he do? Maximus began to dig. Pawing the ground with all his might, the young horse
began to create a ditch in the ground to create a large cave like structure with walls of
piled up snow creating some sort of barrier from the wind. It is unknown how long the horse
dug but the strenuous activity kept his body warm until the ditch was big enough that he
could lay down. Once 'inside' the structure, Maximus pulled his legs in underneath him and
tucked his head against his body to both heat up his own body and keep the heat in a tight ball.
Besides very minor frostbite that disappeared in less than a month, Maximus had sucsessfully
survived a night stuck in a snow storm.

Image
Image

Personality;
Max has always been one for the cool winter nights and the beautiful frosty mornings that are known to follow in the nights footsteps, he loves his early morning adventures in the winter wonderland he calls home. Saying this, this tolter is an adventurous spirit with an outlook on life that tells him to get moving when the going gets tough; he is the wind in the shape of a horse in the sense that he never stays in own place for long and often disappearing for days at a time but has also been known to return and tear things up like a gale force wind. As you might assume, Maximus doesn't mean to upset the balance and is quite the apologetic little horse who unknown to himself is wise beyond his years with a heart of gold that can make even the coldest hearts melt. With an aim to please everyone around him, there is no doubt that he is the kind of horse that is friends with everyone he meets, often being the comforting factor or the light in someones bad day; he just makes you want to smile or laugh.

In general, Maximus is a humble fella who is guided by his mistakes in life and is always the one to
say please and thank you for the little things in life, he has never stolen one thing in his life and always
allows himself to feel proud but never lets it inflate his almost nonexistent ego. This being said, he is
also the one to apologise profusely for something that he didn't do or didn't mean to do and isn't the sort
to complain or take things for granted. He is always willing to help everyone around him in one way or
another but sometimes he had been known to accident prone and this discourages the little horse which
sadly morphed into an anxiety disorder which doesn't allow him to do everything that he wishes he could.
