What Are Luxiats? wrote:A Luxiat is an owl-like dragon, carrying features of both species. They're naturally compassionate creatures, ranging in size from around the size of a boxer to the size of a german shepherd. Partially domesticated, they're not always kept as pets, but it's not uncommon for them to find a happy home in the hands of skilled owners!
I really want to keep this one but, well, here it is! ;w;

Luxiat Name; Mavauca "Mava"
Gender; Female - she/her
Art piece;Story; Mavauca stepped out of the local electronics shop where she'd just worked quite the long shift and started her walk home. It was nighttime, and a half moon lit up the sky above. The walk wasn't long as her workplace wasn't far from where she resided, and soon enough Mava was back at her apartment. The moment she stepped inside, she dropped the mask and sighed heavily. “What a long day...” She complained. She was tired and worn out, and at this point just wanted to get some rest. She had another long day approaching the next day, but she told herself she'd worry about that later.
Mava dropped against the hard mattress and squished together the old sheets she'd been given by her mother before she'd moved out. She pushed her face into the worn pillow and quickly drifted into sleep.
…
Waking up, Mava popped upright and wiped the sweat off her face. She looked around; it was still nighttime. “Not again...” She said. This was the third night in a row that she'd woken up in the middle of the night, feeling unable to get back to sleep. She crawled out of bed and went to her computer. The light was bright in her weary eyes, but she quickly adjusted. “My good friend.” She said jokingly, referring to the computer itself. “You never let me down.”
Mava stared at an empty text document. “Hmm.” She mumbled restlessly. She couldn't quite think of what to type, or if she even felt like typing. As she sat, a thought came to her – perhaps she'd start a new personal project, despite having several sitting on the sidelines.... but this one, well, seemed like a good idea.
Mava started typing as the thoughts began to flow in – code for a new site she'd manage under her usual alias. Her face felt droopy and her movements were sloppy in her tired state, but she kept at it. After all, she knew she wouldn't be able to return to sleep anytime soon. So, why not be productive?
This site would come to be called AvexGate.
…
The morning sun rose over the horizon, and Mava's alarm went off. She was already awake, but had simply forgotten to disable the alarm. The sound blared into her ears, and she walked over to shut it off. She yawned and stretched, feeling as though she could finally doze off....but she knew she had a long day of work ahead, so that wasn't an option.
Mava chugged several cups of coffee and shut down her computer after saving her project approximately 10 times.
She quickly got herself together and went out the door to head to her workplace.
…
“YO MAV. Get up!!” Javiel, Mava's co-worker yelled into her ear. She twitched for a second before popping upright, delayed in her reaction. “What's wrong with you?”
Mava shook her head. “S-sorry.” She said shamefully. She wasn't the kind of Lux to fall asleep at work, but with her recent insomnia and general sleep issues it was hard not to.
“Next time it happens, you're getting reported. I know the boss is out of town but that doesn't mean you can get away with-” Javiel said, before turning to the call of a customer in need. Mava cracked her arms and went back to managing her daily duties.
Suddenly, an unfamiliar customer walked in and stepped up to the counter. Mava straightened up her posture and proceeded to greet the new face. “Welcome, how may I help you today?”
…
So, the day was fairly normal.
Another boring, average day full of fake smiles and masks.
…
“I forgot to be thankful today.”
…
…..
Mava arrived back at home later on. Once again, she dropped into bed, unable to think to do anything else. She'd been exhausted lately, cranky and all around in a bad mood. Still, something was bothering her. She soon realized what exactly that was. “Oh, right. I forgot to be thankful today.”
For a long time, Mava's life was... not exactly the best. She had quite a bit to deal with. When Mava was 5 years old, she was diagnosed with a disorder that affected her day to day life, and she was often ridiculed for it in school as others wouldn't quite understand. This disorder caused ticks and heavy emotional swings, though it did improve over the course of around a decade. When Mava was 7 years old, her younger brother experienced a severe injury which left him in need of constant care, and she was expected to be there for him constantly, which was a heavy responsibility for someone so young. Her mother raised her and her brother herself as her father.....wasn't quite around. So, many responsibilities, even in her childhood, rested on her shoulders. When Mava was 12 years old, she was hospitalized for a short while, and fell behind on her schooling. When Mava was 16 years old, she was forced to get a job as her mother struggled to pay the bills, and she couldn't help but feel that it was her fault, or at the very least she had a responsibility to help.
To put it simply, she went through a lot. A lot lot. More than her peers could see, or that she'd care to admit. She constantly felt so much expected of her, and it honestly tore her apart – but she kept going, because she cared about her family, she cared about her peers, she cared about the world and life. So, she did her best constantly, rarely taking time for herself and her own needs.
...and as time passed, things slowed down. Her life became more....normal. Mava didn't expect anything more than 'average' in her life. She only wished for those few moments here and there to have for herself to think, to be mindful and to be calm. She got more than what she wished for as she got older – happiness. She made a promise to herself one day, that she'd be thankful for the gifts she had in life – all the good things. She would take a moment every day to be thankful.
….but as time went on, she began to lose track of this promise. She complained more. She had quite the right to, but at the same time, it made her feel.....guilty, in all honesty.
It was this day that she renewed her promise to herself. This average, regular-old day.
Just a regular day. Nothing out of the ordinary.
…

Winner! Contests can only end this way if it's reached a month, or I would've ended sooner but I really really loved your form regardless, I hope you enjoy Mavauca, and feel free to post in the fanclub to introduce her! ^w^
