Second Chance Shelter wrote: Second Chance Shelter is a dog and cat rescue where you can come to find a new member of your family. We rescue and rehabilitate dogs and cats of all shapes and sizes so they may have the chance to be placed into a caring home. All of our animals are special and deserve a chance to be happy with an owner that will care for them. The question is: are you ready to love them?

Backstory wrote:Two unfortunate victims of a dog fighting ring nicknamed the "Red Room." The big shepherd boy was a fighter and the pretty lady was set to be a breeder to make racers (in an effort to increase revenue), but her fertility was so low that the ring owners never managed it but thought she was too valuable to put her down. They seemed to have escaped initially which alerted our shelter, surrounding shelters, and local authorities to the location of the ring. These two plus another pair were brought into SCS because they seemed inseparable despite their circumstances. One of the other males ended up being too volatile to keep them all in the same kennel, so all four dogs were separated into two kennels. They came in with sad conditions-- the shepherd was missing a limb, one of the other dogs was practically lame in both hind legs, and all of them were littered with untreated scars. The big man here already fell in love with one of our workers here at the shelter, so she's taking him home complete with a new prosthetic; but, can you win this pretty lady's heart?

pay no attention to that timer I've had it open pretty much all day and last night hah

Something simple, with extras allowed. Extras will count as boosters but I'll also be judging the prompt on creativity.

She says this quite often, and always smugly. It mostly accounts for her nosiness, as most people tell her " curiosity killed the cat" when she's rude or acts "smart"

Sex: Female
Collar: Link to the site so you can view from much more angles !

Phrase: Exploiting other is easier than facing your own uselessness and beating the odds. (68 characters)

Other:
- She learnt that phrase during their life being exploited for the dog fights business.

-The "Red Room", no more than two words.
However if you pronounce it in front of the adorable lady you can be sure she will start squeaking and even peeing herself out of fear.
At her arrival at the shelter she was nothing more than a dog full of fear. It was sad to watch.
The thing that was the most striking were her frightened eyes as well as her irregular walk, and her dull coat which all were signs of what she had to go throught ...
However with time she learn to gain confidence, when the workers brings her her food her taill began to swipe a short amount of time, she wasn't lurked in the back of her room, she wasn't showing agressiveness nor fear towards the workers. These tiny things were making the day of the shelter's employees. That's a reason why they do this job and take so much care of these dogs that no one wants anymore.
We can note that the fact Buckster were here with Nkiru almost saved her from going in depression. Without him she would felt abandonned, lost, without any familiar face.

Talking about Buck he's an incredibly brave boy. On their first days, when a worker approached a little bit too closer to the lady, you could hear loud barks coming from the boy's cage.

    Username: Imaginary
    Name: Rosalind (Meaning "beautiful rose")
    Sex: Female
    Collar: X
Phrase: "Well, ain't that a sight for sore eyes." (31 characters)
"Ashes to ashes, dust to dust." (23 characters)
    (54/100)
Other: Rosalind uses the phrase "a sight for sore eyes" due to all of the things she's seen, particularly whilst trapped in the Red Room. To others, it may just seem like a saying of hers that's used to compliment on the beauty of something, but it's so much more to than that to Rosalind. Her eyes sure are some sore eyes after her time in the ring, and not much in there was what you would consider "beautiful." She'd have to admit that there was something disgustingly beautiful in watching the dogs' movements while in the ring, though she would never in her life condone anything like that. It was always gruesomely amazing to watch their muscles move underneath their skin as they fought for their lives, but of course it was horrible to watch and after time the beauty of the dogs was gone. After finally being rescued from the Red Room, Rosalind is constantly awestruck by how gorgeous something is, though some don't look twice at it, or even look at all.
The phrase "ashes to ashes, dust to dust" was picked up from an older male dog Rosalind had met in her first few weeks in the ring. He was a weathered, broken animal, but damn, was he a fighter whenever he was thrown into the ring. She had never known his name, as she had always called him Bo (she can't remember why), but he had always acted as Rosalind's father figure. He protected her and gave her company she very well needed, as she could never handle the Red Room well without someone to talk to. Bo had occasionally mumbled the saying after watching or hearing of a death. He had always been at peace with death, and, to be completely honest, Rosalind thought he might have wished for it. After her time spent in the Red Room, Rosalind had picked up the saying and had never dropped it. Like Bo had been, she's not worried about the concept that she'll be gone one day, because she knows the world'll go on.
Personality: Quiet (nearly mute) - Submissive - Motherly - Responsible - Insensitive - Panicky - Clingy - Dishonest
Rosalind, to those who haven't known her for long enough, might think she's a mute. While she isn't mute, she is very quiet and prefers not to talk. Her voice is really only known by those she trusts; she only ever talks whenever absolutely necessary, and to her close friends who she feels comfortable around, those who she would feel safe revealing her vulnerabilities to. And to Rosalind, her voice is one of those vulnerabilities. While in the Red Room, she was quickly taught to keep her mouth shut. Before being broken into the shell she was, she was quite the loud dog who would gladly voice her opinions. However, she learned within the course of a few days that it was better to stay silent; if Rosalind back-talked, or even spoke at all, she would get beat by humans or torn up by dogs. She swiftly began associating speaking with pain, and that mindset hasn't changed.
Going along with her silence, Rosalind is extremely submissive. She tends to let others lead the charge and doesn't try to start anything. It isn't her wish to be alpha. It never was, after the ring. She believes that if she even dares to challenge the authority she'll be hurt in some way, either physically, emotionally, or through someone she cares about. She would never want to risk that, ever, so Rosalind just accepts others' role as leader, and hers as follower. She's content with staying in the back, away from the "danger" of the temptation of assertiveness.
She's always wanted to be a mother. Well, a proper mother. An actual mother. Not just a machine exploited for new machines. Due to her low fertility, Rosalind had only gotten pregnant twice, but had only had a litter once, no matter how many failed attempts there was. That litter consisted of three pups, all females. One, who she had named Peony, was stillborn. The second, a very small pup named Marigold. And the third, being an average-sized pup that was deemed Dahlia. The litter had shattered her heart into several different pieces, each broken for a separate reason. It destroyed her that these gorgeous, innocent, young little pups would be "trained," or more, broken, into just as she was: a machine. Of course, of course it killed Rosalind that Peony was stillborn. She felt as though she, her body, wasn't good enough to keep Peony alive. But at the same time, she was relieved to know that at least one of her precious babies wasn't going to turn out like the dogs in the ring, or like her. Soon after the birth, maybe a few days, Marigold passed. Rosalind had known when she was born that she wasn't going to make it. She was small and frail, and too weak to even nurse enough milk. Dahlia, her last remaining pup, survived. She was taken, ripped away from Rosalind one day, for them to never see each other again. She never knew what happened to her sole survivor, but it was worse than being in the Red Room in the first place, or the abuse, or watching the pain and death, or having not been good enough to keep two of her own alive. After her long emotional recovery from the Red Room, Rosalind had realized that she wanted to mother another litter, one that she could actually give herself into and give a life they deserved. Until then, she acts very motherly towards others, especially younger animals or the elderly.
Rosalind is incredibly responsible. She likes to ensure that everything be finished right and thoroughly and taken care of. If it's not, then the thought haunts her until it is complete. She believes that she should make sure that everything that needs to be done that she can do be done, because she knows there are many others who are unable or are just too darned lazy. Rosalind takes it upon herself to try to make up for the lack of responsibility in those people, which often times causes a lot of stress for her. For her, though, it's a good, motivating stress that helps her get stuff done.
She used to be an incredibly sensitive dog. Rosalind, when she was younger, wasn't able to handle an insult or criticism, and anything said about her would haunt her for the rest of day, maybe even longer. However, in the course of a few months, that very quickly changed. She learned to not let words and thoughts effect her, because if she did she would have lost it much, much faster. She formed a hard outer shell that Rosalind ensured was difficult to crack.
Rosalind, in high-stakes situations or under pressure, can become too anxious and the logical part of her brain shuts down completely. She goes into a panic mode that is difficult to handle for her as well as anyone with her at that time. It's really quite painful for Rosalind, and she becomes exhausted after these periods. Because of this pain and tiredness, she's constantly paranoid of having these anxiety attacks, which in reality just makes them more likely to happen.
Rosalind can be overly clingy, especially in certain situations where she feels like she's in danger or might lose someone. She dreads the thought of losing someone she cares about, like Gage or Bucky, after losing so many in her early life. She tries not to stick to people so much, but it's a trait of hers she can't get rid of, and just hopes that her friends realize it's a coping mechanism of hers and that it's just one of her ways of showing that she cares.
She tends to keep the truth from others. She doesn't do it out of malice or bad intention, she just happens to think that it's better to give little white lies and make someone feel better than ruining their day, or maybe even something bigger, with a bad truth. Sometimes, though, Rosalind will keep a truth from someone because it benefits her more than them to not tell them. It's not something she used to do, but while in the ring she learned that, although she hated it, it was for her own sake to do so.
History: Rosalind really doesn't remember much from before the ring. She didn't spend all that much time in the Red Room, especially compared to others, but her inability to handle the whole situation well affected her memory of much of her previous life. She can't remember who her parents were, who her siblings were, if she even had any, what they looked like, and how she lived. She doesn't know if she ever had an owner, and if she did, she had no clue how she was treated, which is something that scares her immensely. All she remembers before the Red Room was living on the streets, always slightly hungry but never starving. She began noticing this one dog, day after day. A female, whose coat was a great gorgeous speckled gray that shimmered when the sun hit it. Rosalind, being young and naive and just on the edge of adulthood, quickly fell head-over-heels for this female after briskly talking to her once. Her name had been something like Layla or Leah, and she seemed perfect in Rosalind's young mind; she was smart, and strong, and pretty, everything someone like Rosalind would want. However, about the time she had starting noticing this female, the Red Room had taken note of her as well. She was a tough dog, and a good fighter. At this time, Rosalind had no idea what the Red Room was, or dogfighting at all. So when they came for Leah or whatever her name was, the young dog's brain was just a flurry of confusion. Stuck in the moment and spurred on by a groundless love, Rosalind attempted to free her "true love" from the humans, only to result in her own capture. That day was the last time they saw each other.
It's almost like Rosalind's life happened in phases. She can only recall the "eventful" or important parts of her life. Everything else? Either completely wiped from her memory of repressed so far down inside herself that she could never dig them up again. That female had been the first part, the next being Bo.
The times before and after Bo had been the worst parts of her life. After about a month of being in he Red Room, Rosalind had begun to be approached by an older male dog. It was always a wonder to her how he noticed her in the first place, as she had tried to be as invisible as possible. Being young without knowing that trust was rare in this place and desperate for someone to confide in, she quickly befriended him. He never told her his name, so she introduced the name Bo, and since he never objected, it stuck. He was a roughed up, old thing who was still tough as nails. Rosalind was always convinced that he had to have been part wolf. She began viewing him as her father figure, especially since she could never remember if she had a father in her life in the first place. He took her under his wing and taught her how the Red Room operated and which dogs to be sure to avoid. He protected and defended her when necessary, but he always pushed her to learn to take care of herself, as he knew that one day he'd die somehow. And that day came much, much to fast for Rosalind. She'd watched his last fight. He had fought for a few minutes before just... giving up. She knew that he had chosen his time, but it destroyed her nonetheless.
Before Rosalind had met Bucky, she thought she would have surely gone insane. She didn't know what to do without Bo to help her along the way. She didn't have anyone to talk to, and resorted to wailing and howling her sorrows until her throat was raw and her skin was sore and bruised and blessings from the beatings she received for her ruckus. That was her breaking point. At one point, she quit her screaming and went silent and still, huddled in one spot unless forced to move. She remained like that, a broken shell, for a long while. She had her litter and shattered even further. It got to the point where she would spend her days and nights laid on her side without any thoughts in her head, watching nothing, staring into space. She began recovering when she met Bucky, but had mended crooked. Her experience in the Red Room transformed her into a completely different dog.
Relationship with Bucky: After the death of Bo, Rosalind nearly lost her sanity. This behavior went on for maybe three weeks, and the entire time a German Shepherd had been taking note of her behavior. He slowly began to approach her and try to get a reaction from her. She had noticed him and his attempt to try to get her to do something, but ignored it. She really just didn't care. That is, until she realized how bad her state was and how desperate she was for someone to help her. She forced herself to look around, to lift her head, to sit up, to eat the food the humans had given her. She'd assumed that the Shepherd would see her beginning to return to "normal," and forget about her, but it just seemed to encourage him. He slowly began to approach her and try to gain her trust. The attempts worked fairly quickly. Although her brain and her conscience, which was essentially built of things Bo had told and taught her, were telling her not to trust him, she was so in need of someone to talk to that she ignored the logic. He, Bucky, as she'd learned, was highly intimidating when they first started interacting. However, there was something about him that filled Rosalind with a sense of safety. She reminded him of a younger Bo, although she'd never known Bo when he was in his prime. Bucky was large and muscular, and he was someone she felt she could trust. Their friendship quickly blossomed and they became more comfortable around each other. Bucky began to speak of escape, and while she knew that every dog in the Red Room was suffering and wanted out, she felt a sense that he was eager to return to something, or more, someone. She later learned who that someone was: a male dog who was called Steve. Rosalind could easily decipher that Bucky had strong feelings for this Steve and that he was probably one of, if not the most important thing in Bucky's life. From her experience, she knew that that's what love did.
Weeks passed and she noticed that his rebellious words had turned into rebellious actions. And the Red Room noticed, too. Then one day he was gone. Rosalind's mind immediately began jumping to conclusions. He must have been killed in the ring or at the hands of humans. Or he just didn't care about her in the first place and just went on to someone else because she wasn't doing anything. Or he escaped on his own because he was tired of waiting for her to go with him. These thoughts repeated in her mind over and over again, driving her into her broken mode once more. Before it got too bad, though, Bucky suddenly returned. Rosalind was overly delighted at his return. They spent hours together, sometimes not even talking, just enjoying each others' company, to make up for the hours lost. In this time, she began to think of Bucky as her brother. And as siblings do, they came up with ways to cause trouble. They devised a plan to escape with two other dogs that Bucky claimed would help. They were strong fighting dogs like he was, and were surely for protection when the plan was to be carried out, but she had a hard time turning her back on them. They spent weeks perfecting this plan until the day came.
She was woken up by Bucky gently but firmly rocking her, and of course to the usual noises of dogs wailing and humans yelling.
Groggily, Rosalind asked, "Are we going?"
He replied with a quick, "Yes."
    "Right now?"
"Yes, Rosa, right now. Take a few minutes to wake up."
Those few minutes later she was awake and ready to go, adrenaline already pumping through her veins.
The plan was to escape through a window that the other two dogs had propped up last night. The room was quite a bit bare: only three dogs scattered about and one human slouched against the wall, asleep. Rosalind was to go first, then Bucky, then the other two. She felt a small nudge from Bucky and knew that was the signal to go. The four crept towards the window, and as soon as they got close enough, Rosalind launched herself through it and hit the ground running. The speed in her that the humans had so desperately desired could finally be put to use. She didn't care where she was going, as long as it was better than the hell she was leaving behind. She and Bucky were taken in by the shelter. Rosalind was utterly terrified, but after a long while of Bucky comforting her, she started to calm down. A few days in the shelter and they learned that Steve was there as well. Rosalind didn't think that was just a coincidence, but she didn't know what to chalk it up as. She just knew that she was safe, and Bucky, her brother, was safe and happy, and that's all that matters to her.

Relationship with Gage: Rosalind, after gaining some more stability in the shelter, was adopted fairly quickly. She was adopted by someone who owned an Afghan Hound by the name of Gage. He tended to go around with a female cat named Wisteria, and Rosalind quickly noted that he was one she wanted to stay away from. He acted bluntly and went through with anything Wisteria asked of him, and seemed to be the top dog in the place. She had noticed him keeping an eye on her, watching and observing her, seeing what she was about. They had only had a few interactions, and to Rosalind he acted polite, extremely polite, almost as if he was scared to not be, but tried to cover it up with disinterest. After about a month, though she noticed something shift in his behavior. He almost began to seek her out. He would "accidentally" run into her (not literally, of course), and would try to make conversation. Gage seemed nervous and flustered around her, and acted with that same politeness, which she had made mental note of, but never confronted him about it. Another month, and Gage became more confident and started approaching her without claiming it to be accidental. It was still hard for Rosalind to trust him, but she could clearly tell he wanted her to trust him. She wanted to trust him, too, but it took her a while to determine that he genuinely liked her and her company and didn't want to use her for something or other. It was blatantly obvious to both of them that the hound had feelings to her. She may or may not have returned those feelings. She wasn't exactly sure. They were definitely there, but she refused to let them show for fear that she would not be able to give him want he wanted of her; her love and a family, probably. All these pent-up emotions led to one day.
Rosalind was sprawled across the couch, contemplating what she wanted to say to Gage when he decided to show up. Despite her efforts not to let herself feel anything past friendship towards him, her affection grew stronger every day. It was very apparent to her, and probably a bit to him as well. She would let her emotions fly if not for the fears holding them back. She knew Gage longed for her affection, but she had been afraid that after her time in the horrible hell that she spent most of her life in, she had none left to give. And she knew that he would probably want pups, which obviously she couldn't provide for him.
    Well, speak of the devil.
He trotted, almost pranced, into the living room, his cat friend in tow. Wisteria quickly took off towards her cat tree, leaving Gage on the ground, as, well, he couldn't climb. Rosalind shifted to collect her legs underneath her and make room for him. He jumped up onto the couch and curled up next to her without a word. They sat there for who knows how long, and she could tell he wasn't asleep by his breathing. At least, not yet.
Suddenly, her brain started screaming at her to speak. To say something.
    "Gage?"
    "Hm."
"Can we talk about something? Something serious?"
    "'Course."
She took a few long breaths before continuing, "We both know about how you feel about me. And I think we both know my feelings towards you, although they don't show as much. I don't think you know, though, how strong those feelings really are. I really want to let them loose."
She could feel his heartbeat quicken as she spoke. She paused for a few moments, allowing him to say something, but he didn't. And from their past conversations, she knew that was her signal to keep going.
"The only thing keeping me from doing so is my fear that I won't be able to give you what you want."
    "And what would that be?"
"You know about my time in... in that place. It broke me. It took the love from my heart, my soul. I fear I won't be able to give that love to you. And you want a family, right?"
    "At some point, yeah."
"I wasn't a fighting dog in there. They thought I would produce good racing dogs. So I was used for breeding. However, I only ever had one litter. It was a litter of three perfect little girls."
She took a minute or two to calm her breathing once more.
"Only one survived. I never... I never knew what happened to her. You want a family, but I think it's very unlikely that I'll ever have another litter again. I don't want to take that part of your life from you. I don't want to waste your life."
She awaited his response, which came after several deep breaths from both of them.
"Rosalind, you are not a waste. You are not broken. I've seen the passion you put in to things you care about. You have more love in your heart than anyone else I've met. And while yes, I would like a family, I'd rather have you."

Phrases:
The darkest nights produce the brightest stars.

Hold on, pain ends.

I can and I will. Watch me.

The Darkest Nights Produce the Brightest Stars -
Vida was born into the Red Room, and was treated poorly until she grew up to show her full beauty and was old enough to have pups. She had her first litter quite young, but not too young. The pups, all three of them, were stillborn due to mistreatment of Vida. She was upset, but also very angry at the workers. Meanwhile, the Red Room workers treated her worse because she didn't produce healthy puppies to train to fight.
Her past was horrible. All she ever knew was mistreatment and violence, and she never truly experienced true love. She didn't even know the name of the stud she had had pups with, or what he had gone through when his pups had all been stillborn.
And yet, after all of this, Vida escaped the pound with the ability to love. She found a loving home that could deal with her stubborn, headstrong self. Throughout the struggle to live, she still ended up escaping using her determination and hope.

Hold On, Pain Ends -
she always wanted to escape. and everyone told her that she couldn't, because even if she tried, she would be hurt. but she didn't give up. they could kick her and call her names, but she'd be free. the pretty dog tried to escape a total of seven times before she decided to give up, and around that time is when they were found by the shelter. she thought it was funny how the phrase also spelled out "HOPE"

i can, and i will. watch me.
she tested everyone's patience at the dog fighting ring. she always was preaching her ideas about escaping, and whenever people told her she couldn't - this is the answer she gave them. she was fierce with her determination to escape, and was always looking at the locks and scouring the place. she'd often try to steal the keys off of the worker's belts, which always ended in her being roughly pushed aside.
" vida, you can't. "
" yes, i can. "
" you won't leave. "
" yes i will. "
" vida . "
" watch me . "

No changes are needed, thanks place! ...for like the thousandth time. When does it end? xD

I just wanted to let everyone entering for the Borzoi, that they can use Bucky in their forms. Just know that Bucky has been promised to Steve, so romantic relationships or anything won't work. Though unrequited love is not off the table, with Bucky being the one to return the same feelings. I'd also ask you to stay true to his character.

    Thanks, and good luck!
