---"
Secret, get out of here!" Hayse shouted over his shoulder as he focused on the large beast in front him. It took a swing and he managed to duck, then throw himself forward, knocking it off balance long enough for him to turn halfway to face his sister. "
Go!" He yelled, needing her to be out of harm's way. He couldn't fight this thing and watch her.
---Secret stared wide-eyed at the scene in front of her, frozen in fear. Her brother's shouts finally broke through to her and she bolted. Normally, she would never leave his side, but the look on his face...She had never seen him so scared before. She ran until she could no longer hear the sounds of battle, then collapsed in a heap, completely out of breath and too shocked to go on.
---Hayse had only been distracted for a moment, just long enough to see his sister turn and run, but it was enough - the beast roared and swung at him again, this time catching him square in the face. "
Arhhh!" Hayse exclaimed, clenching his jaw as he ducked his head, his eyes closed against the searing pain. The force of the strike dazed him a little, he felt four distinct burning lines going over his right eye. The ground shook, betraying the beast's attempt to creep closer; Hayse pushed the pain aside and glared up at the beast. He dove forward, throwing himself into the thing's massive shoulder. Despite the fact he was considerably smaller, Hayse managed to knock the beast off balance again, if only slightly. He made a wide loop around it and clawed at it's face in the same manner it had gotten him. It reared up with a roar and came toward him; wide-eyed, Hayse jumped back but it caught him in the side. Pain shot through his lower ribs as he flew through the air a few feet before colliding with an old log, the impact making a dull thud. Hayse groaned, wanting to just dissipate but the thought of this thing finding his sister made him get back to his feet. His legs shook, his vision blurry and dark at the edges, every breath felt like a knife between his ribs. He forced himself to take a deep breath before letting out a roar of his own, instinct taking over as he charged the beast lumbering toward him. The rest of the fight was a blur, only faint sensations reaching his conscience.
---The next thing Hayse knew, he was stumbling blindly through a field, heading toward a small collection of boulders.
---"
Hayse?" Secret called softly from the shadows, cautiously stepping out of the shelter provided by the pile of boulders. "
Ohmygosh, Hayse!" She exclaimed, rushing out to him; he collapsed as soon as he heard her voice. Secret reached him just after he hit the ground, gasping when she saw his beautiful grey coat matted with blood, twigs, leaves and dirt. "
You're gonna be ok..." She muttered.

---Harm had pushed anyone close to him away years ago, including his little sister. He said hurtful things to anyone he knew then cut off all contact and disappeared. Now he was strolling through the woods, in one of the rare times he wasn't after some personal vendetta, when he heard a bone-chilling roar. Hayse would have run over to see if he could assist in any way. Harm meandered near just to see a battle. He stopped just beyond the beast's poor range of vision, having no interest in fighting one again.
---"
Run Alaia! I'll hold it off!" A brown Kalon shouted, darting away from a slightly smaller grey Kalon with a whoop in an attempt to get the thing's attention.
---"
James, no!" The female called. With a huff the beast turned back to ward the grey Kalon, more interested in a closer and unmvoing target.
---The brown Kalon spun back around, and noticed Harm leaning against the tree. "
Help us!" He called, fear and desperation in his voice and expression.
---Harm flashed a devilish grin, "
Why? Harm is enjoying watching it fight. Besides, if it fights the beast, Harm can escape unnoticed." His grin broadened at the look on the face of the brown Kalon; the grey Kalon also glanced his way at the sound of his voice. The look on her face seemed familiar, but he couldn't place it and honestly didn't really try. He turned without another word and began walking away, smiling when he heard the frustrated grunt. After a few paces, he stopped, turned back around and leaned against another tree to watch the battle. "
Pathetic. Fight alone or flee together, it can't do both." Harm muttered to himself. He quickly grew bored and moved on without hesitation, continuing his walk through the otherwise peaceful woods.
---A sudden flash in his mind's eye stopped him in his tracks, and a wave of guilt washed over him.
---Hayse limped blindly through a filed, having only the vaguest sense of his surroundings. Every time he moved, pain burned through him; the whole right of his face was numb, though every wince made it tingle painfully; each short breath felt like a jagged knife was being dragged through his ribs. Something caught his attention and made him pause, forgetting his condition for just a moment, and for that moment, relief flooded through him, but he couldn't even remember what made him pause.
---"Ohmygosh, Hayse!" Secret exclaimed, rushing out to him; he collapsed as soon as he heard her voice clearly, knowing that she must be safe if she was calling to him. Just after he hit the ground, he heard her gasp beside him.
---"You're gonna be ok..." She muttered, gently placing a paw on his shoulder. He winced, sore everywhere from the battle, then passed out completely.
---Harm snorted and shook his head to clear it, drew in a deep breath and took off, shoving the guilt aside. What did he care, they weren't his problem.
