Queen of the Deep

Some say space is the final frontier. Plenty of unexplored worlds, lots of new discoveries waiting to be made. There are hundreds of billions of stars in the sky, many encircled with solar systems not entirely like our own. And yet, Sonya feels no pull to the vastness of space, to the plethora of galaxies only just visible via the best telescopes. No, Sonya sees a different medium to explore, one that, while it may be right here on planet Earth, has much left to be explored. This is, of course, the deep ocean. 95 percent of the ocean has never been touched by the paws of curious kalons. While it may be contained by our small planet, it contains more mysteries than all the land on Earth. Sonya finds the fact that such a mystery lies so close to us absolutely fascinating. How, she wonders, could we know so little about something so important to our existence? She's read as many books as she can get her paws on, and any free time of hers is spent on the beach, gazing longingly into the blue enigma she so loves. Her dream, her lifelong goal, is to someday have an underwater research facility deep in the ocean, one where she can spend all day studying the mysteries of the sea. Wouldn't it be wonderful to be able to look out the window and see a great blue whale? And what of the dangerous beauty of a forest of jellyfish? Everything would be tinted a mystical blue from the waters surrounding her, and though the space would be small, it would be just perfect for a cozy little lab she could call her own. She would have a submarine, of course, to get back to the surface, but it would most likely be used to explore the ocean floor. Perhaps she would make her way to the Marianas trench, where she could marvel at all the strange creatures that thrive off the tectonic activity there. Perhaps by then it would even be possible to walk along the rift itself, suited up in special gear that could allow her to withstand the great weight of the water above her. What would it be like to witness the light show that only deep oceanic species could put on? Some would call them monsters, but Sonya knows better. The creatures of the depths are magical to her; she far prefers those over the aliens that so many others swoon over. In her research facility, she would be the first to discover many new species, some so unusual that all the other scientists would be astounded at her finds. Her research would be so valuable, so groundbreaking that she would receive enough grants to live in the ocean for the rest of her life, spending all her days among the creatures who inspire her. Many a kalon has warned her that such dreams are unrealistic, that it would be too difficult, too lonely. Sonya lets them say their piece, but she knows that her heart truly lies in the bottom of the ocean, where a fantastic new world waits to be discovered. Though it may be close enough for many of us to call it home, it's as fantastical as the land in Sonya's dreams, and the best part of all is that it's very much real. (562/600)

investigator -

"This house is so damn creepy, I can already hear
the demons in this place."
"Stop it, Remy, you know when you say stuff like
that it scares Irving."
Irving's grip on his camera tightened as he looked
up at the building, thinking about how many ghosts
were looking at them from the windows.
Remy gave a laugh, "How does he expect to be a
paranormal investigator if he's always so
scared?"
"Stop teasing him, you're being a jerk," Sean
scoffed, looking to Irving. "You alright?"
Irving snapped out of his thoughts to look to his
friends, giving a nod and a soft "yeah".
Remy was the one to walk up the porch first,
confidence in his steps. He opened the door easily,
whistling as he turned to look at his friends who
were beginning to come up the stairs.
Irving looked up at Remy, sighing when he saw the
amused smile on his face.
"I swear, if you scare me in here, Remy, I'm never
inviting you to anything ever again."
Remy laughed, saying a "whatever" as he walked into
the dark house, Sean and Irving following.
"Holy cow, it's so dark in here," Sean whispered,
hugging himself as he looked around at the darkness.
"Nice observation, Sean."
"Oh my god, can you stop being such a sarcastic jerk
for once Remy?"
"Nope," Remy replied with a chuckle, turning the
flashlight he had in his hand on.
"You recording yet, Captain Irving?"
Irving sighed heavily at the nickname, lifting the camera
up and pressing a button.
"Now I am."
Remy turned towards the camera then, shining the light
under his chin to give a creepy glow to his face.
"Here we are in the demon house of 1826, where 13
children were killed. We're gonna try to see if one of
them can possess our boy Irving."
Irving's eyebrows knitted together in frustration, putting his
free hand on his hip.
"We'll never be professionals at this if you're always joking
around, Remy!"
"Yeah, knock it off," Sean said, his voice oddly soft.
"You two are no fun," Remy grumbled, pointing his flashlight
at each of them before turning on his heel, walking forward.
Sean brought an EVP recorder out of his pocket, clearing his
throat before speaking.
"Is anybody here with us?"
The three boys stopped walking, listening intently for a good
thirty seconds before huddling together to listen to their recording.
Irving closed his eyes as he listened, focusing only on that.
His eyes shot open as he heard a whisper, looking to Sean and
Remy, who were staring at him as well.
"No way," Sean whispered, fear in his eyes.
"Did you hear that?!" Remy smiled with a soft laugh, "Our first
ghost! This is amazing!"
Irving felt a chill go up his spine and felt uncomfortable all of
the sudden, the air near him cold.
"I don't like this anymore," Irving said, looking towards the front door.
"Isn't this what we came here for?" Remy said, a confused look
on his face. "I mean, that's just what paranormal investigators do.
Catch recordings of ghosts n stuff. You can't be quitting now!"
A loud bang was heard from another room then, Irving and Sean
letting out a high pitched shriek. Irving about tripped over himself
as he ran out, Sean and Remy following closely behind.
After the three had calmed down a bit, Irving turned to his friends,
his heart still beating harshly in his chest.
"Okay, ghost hunting will have to wait until we're all not afraid
anymore," he said, talking with his hands.
"Agreed."

Name; Cortez

Dream;

Cortez's first major dream is to own a animal rescue reserve.
He has always wanted to help heal animals taken from homes
where they've been neglected or abused. He currently is in
college studying Spanish in hopes of being able to connect
with his distant family, but he wants to dedicate his life
to rehabilitating animals.
He loves reptiles, cows, and birds. He has an asphyxiation for
snakes, especially his yellow Burmese Python, Jango. He also
has a corn snake named Pierre and a skink Princeton, but
Jango's his baby.

He also would love to learn to tango, as it is a family tradition,
but he is very clumsy and awkward when it comes to dancing.
He's gone to numerous dancing classes, and whenever he's at
a wedding or a setting where any sort of dancing is involved,
he breaks out in cold sweats.
But he's keeping his hopes up that one day, he will be great!

Their Dreams - Shark was born deep deep down near the bottom of the ocean in a strange little damp dark cave. Shark is the product of a captive kalon who was basicly a lab rat. Shark only knows this due to the long abandonded laboratory shark resides in, all of the old experiments, papers still left intact. Shark has no clue where every one went as he was frozen in time for experiments and only woke up due to the warmth of a new volcanic vent near his camber. With all other life long since evacuated from the cave. Shark often times spends hours on end looking down at the caves water entrance or the one spotlight built into the cave looking up at the waters surface wondering if he will ever see the true light of day. He dreams of one day being free and finding a family, a place to call home.
