In the late 1980's, a group of well established Tennessee Walker breeders took a stand against the 'big lick way' of showing. They decided to break away from their upper class horse society and create a new breed that would have the high natural gate to rival the big lick, without the harsh training techniques. They first culled their herds, only using the greatest dams and sires to create the foundation for their new breed. They began by cross breeding to the Andalusian and Lipizzan for their large size, grace, and fluid movement, before breeding into quarter horses for their determination and western performance. Appaloosas and Paints were also added for coloration and to boost all-around dicipline skills. The resulting horses were bred to Saddlebreds, Fox Trotters, and then in to Tennessee Walkers again to keep the gaitedness and to increase the breed's height.
The breed was begining to be accepted by the public until people realized the horses didn't have as much of an athletic ability as the creators first promised. People began crossing the new Walkers with Thoroughbreds and Arabians to make up for this set back. After a few years, it was decided that the addition of the Thoroughbred and Arabian gave a positive outcome and bettered the breed, giving them a more athletic apperance and better endurance than before. At the end of developing the breed, the Tennessee Walker was added on yet again to remind us all where the breed first started.

First touch
I waited by the front porch. Waiting for my new girl. I saw the trailer pull in. I was soooooo exited. She got out and looked cautiously around. She looked me dead in the eye and came closer. She was beautiful. She was As beautiful as silver. I knew I would name her that. She put her head down so I could touch her. U put my hand on her head and rubbed it for a minute. I walked around and took a look at her. She was strong and powerful. I put her in the end stall and fed her. Then I stared for a while and just daydreamed. Then I walked to do my chores.

First saddle
I went early to the barn. I got all my tack and got belle out of her stall. She stood nicely and waited. I stared at her beauty. I put the saddle and started on the girth. As I tightened the girth she nipped at me. She did good with the bridle. I put her in the round pin to see what she would do. She Walked so nicely. I guess she really would be the best show horse I have had. She came over to me. I made her trot around to get used to it. She got it really quick what I asked of her and the signals. I led her to the stable and untacked her. I let her in the field and let her graze for the night.

First ride
I went to tack up. She made a MESS of her hay bale in the feild. I took her out and tacked her up. She did alot better. I walked to the arena. As I got on she stood super still. I asked her to walk on and she still stood there so I grabbed the crop. I have her a tap on the shoulder just to show that I had it and she walked slowly. I warmed her up and set jumps to a beginner level. She trotted with a few taps on the butt with the crop. She trotted them well so I cantered her some. She had a big stride and cleared everything I set for her. She was my new jumper for sure. I cooled down and dismounted. I took her and untracked her. I put her in the stall after I cleaned it from yesterday. I said see ya later and turned out the lights. I knew she was going to be one of the best.
