What they miss about home; (438/600)
"Darling... what's wrong?"
"You wouldn't understand, mom..."
"Rye, please, talk to me. If you won't talk to me, who will you talk to?"
Rye sighed. He wanted nothing more than to just let go of all of his emotional build-ups, hoping his mother could just make it go away like she used to when he was just a kit.
"I miss them..." Already Rye felt himself choking up. "I miss Tallow and Ferrah."
Ryes mother was silent for a second that felt like forever. "Rye... we all miss them." She tried hard not to choke up herself, but tears welled in her eyes on the other side of the phone.
Rye could hear his mothers voice crack. He hadn't wanted to mention them to her, but he honestly couldn't help it. The conversation seemed to be inevitable, however.
"T-they were stupid."
"Rye being angry at them won't help anythin-"
"How could they do this to us!" Rye was screaming as his tears became heavy sobs. He looked at the picture of his brother and his brothers girlfriend's prom photo. It was the last picture they had taken, and Rye had never seen them happier.
"Rye honey, I'm going to pick you up, and we can go to the flea market together, okay?" Her voice was soft- hurting and sympathetic at the same time.
"Okay mom..." Rye loved the flea market.
When his mother hung up the phone, Rye opened his laptop and continued to write on his newest Word Document.
-thankful to Ferrah for making my brother a better person. He was happy with her. I wish I could give my life so they could keep theirs, because they did so much good whenever they could. They had always said that-
Rye could finish writing with his paws shaking. He whispered the words "love is the purest form of happiness". He wasn't sure it were true but he appreciated the words.
Their funeral was only nine days from now, and Rye couldn't bring himself to write more than a few sentences of the eulogy that he'd have to present in one sitting.
He wiped his eyes with his paws and tried to take deep breaths. The two had always loved candles- specifically sandlewood- and there was never a time one wasn't burning in the house, even when they were sleeping. That was their biggest mistake.
Rye stood up from his laptop and put out the candle that he had been lighting every morning since the accident, and walked outside to where he could hear his mother pulling into the driveway.
