story: autumn's favorite part of fall was likely halloween. albeit it being her favorite season, this was rather hard to decide. she couldn't deny her love for long walks in the woods, with the crisp air of the afternoon and the leaves falling gracefully. though dressing up was just as appealing. she could be absolutely anything she'd like for one day of the year, and that allowed her imagination to run wild. as of right now she was putting her finishing touches on the handmade costume. this year, she decided to go as a dark fairy. with a beautiful crown made of black roses, thorns, and a gleaming ebony jewel that was simply impossible to miss. autumn's wings would gleam under the moonlight. made of crow's feathers (fake, of course) with spiked edges and interlaced charcoal colored flowers. she'd already put the finishing touches on her makeup, and after making her costume as flawless as possible put it on. the night was particularly beautiful, with the moon casting a gentle glow across her neighborhood and the house's flashing colors of orange and black. she'd left baked goods out on her front porch, so she was capable of trick-or-treating herself. there was a pale sign which sat next to it and read, "take one." the rest of her house was decorated to match her costume, with fake trees that stretched out and appeared as if they were going to snatch you. her brother would often come over to scare the children, hiding within the maze of decorations she'd set up. this year he unfortunately couldn't make it. after adjusting her wing's she set off for the night's new adventure, excited for what was to come.

How could she not? It was time to harvest her reward for tending to her crops for months. Her pumpkins, cabbages,
sweet potatoes and many other crops would be ready to harvest. not to mention the rest of her cherries.

oh, how she loved those cherry blossoms.

Those cherry blossoms had grown up with her. Her mother had received the seeds from her father as a gift for
Momiji's birth. During the free time her mother had, she spent it all out in the fields, planting each seed one by
one. Slowly but surely, the young sprouts grew into the miraculous rows of trees standing in front of Momiji,
swaying slowly in the wind and carrying the last blossoms of the season. Wrapped in her brown scarf, the kalon's
paws were led to a singular tree in the middle of the third row. She knew not only by the size, but the memory
of digging the hole that this was her mother's grave. The girl crouched by the roots of the tree, fondly recalling
all the times spent with her mother. the moment
when she finally acomplished crossbreeding two
cherry
trees popped into her mind. Then, she had been
so lively and enthusiastic, before the sickness took hold
of her body and ended her life. Other thoughts had
filtered through her mind but none as strong as the
lullaby
she had sung to her as a little Kalon. before she knew it, the lyrics she had heard so many times before
tumbled out of her mouth in song.

Singing those words after so long without a song brought a smile on her face and a cheery laugh in
the air.
The hope, no, the knowledge that her mother
would always watch from above with that beautiful smile
gleaming on her face gave her comfort.

And that, was all she needed.

favorite thing about autumn ;;
Emma's favorite thing about autumn would have to be the
hot air balloons.
She had a fear of heights when she was a child, and was so
reluctant to get into one, but her father convinced her to
get in it. Ever since then, she absolutely loves them.
Emma loves watching as she floats away from the ground and
looking out at all the trees and their colorful leaves, and the
cool wind rushing through her hair. Passing by a nearby pumpkin
patch and watching as families pick out pumpkins to bring home
is also nice for her. It's also really nice to be away from every
problem and everyone, and that's the only time she truly feels
free. Watching as the sun goes down and the sky turns a pretty
orange color, reminding her of what season it is. She loves
heights now, and is excited every autumn to get into the hot air
balloon and float away from everything for awhile.

"Come on, Emma, it won't be that bad!"
Emma dug her heels into the ground, shaking her head vigorously
as her dad held her hand.
"Trust me. You know I wouldn't do anything that would hurt you."
She looked up at her father, a soft smile on his face.
"C'mon."
She grumbled as she walked with him into the hot air balloon, and
he let out a small laugh. Emma peeked over the edge as they took
off, basically shaking in her small boots. As they got higher into
the air, she peered out at all the pretty trees and the sunset, and
realized something. She wasn't shaking anymore and she didn't feel
scared.
Looking to her dad, she had a huge smile on her face.
"Papa, this isn't so bad!" she said in an excited tone.
He gave her a smile, "See? Not so bad after all, huh?"
After that, they picked out pumpkins to bring home to her mother.

Favorite Thing About Autumn: The warm smell of cinnamon rolls wafted through the house and found Megumi buried under blankets with a book in hand. A brisk wind blew through the house and a distant yell of “Close the window,” was heard. This was autumn at her house and she would have it no other way. However, autumn wasn’t fully defined yet until tonight rolled around. Glancing at the little lantern she’d made, Megumi smiled to herself.
“Hurry Megumi! Don’t forget your pumpkin cinnamon rolls and a jacket, it’s going to be cold out there.”
The most magical day of the whole season is October 2nd. Every year, her family releases hand-made lanterns into the night sky. Equipped with her mom’s famous pumpkin cinnamon rolls and a blanket passed down for decades, they would walk to a clearing with each a lantern in hand. On a silent count to 10, each lantern is released and as they floated up steadily, the blanket is spread out and everyone wordlessly sits down and watches and tonight was no different. Watching the lantern carrying her hopes, dreams and fears away, Megumi became content. As cinnamon rolls were passed around, the comforting sights of twinkling stars filled the skies. At peace, her usually talkative family fell silent, each of them taking their own little section from the experience. The night got chillier and darker and only when it became unbearable did they begrudgingly trudge home to a peaceful sleep.
This event, although short and simple, it is why she looks forward to autumn every year.
