away on harsh paws. what had i done this time to make the officious, annoyingly self-righteous girl
mad? could i actually blame her for wanting the best for herself all the time?
ceasing to reason with her personality in my mind, i focused on the physical attribute of catching
up to her.
"chidori, come on! you know i didn't mean it! walking home with you is actually...alright!" i sort of
lied through my teeth, as sometimes it was such a chore; as if I was keeping track of a demanding
little child with a love for throwing tantrums.
i really knew that she meant well, though, she was a tough one, standing up for me at school
relentlessly. but her emotions were as sharp as a blade; as visible as the bright orange sunsets we saw every night walking home from school.
i knew the wild flicks of her head from our childhood; her green hair flew when she got haughty. and that's what i'd predicted would happen
at that exact moment, as she turned to me with a sneer, "look, you don't have to come with me if you want to! every time i meet you after
school you look all sulky! maybe you should just suck it up and walk with me, (name)! after all, we've only known each other for twelve years!!"
chidori rolled her eyes.
she suddenly stopped walking and moved toward the edge of the road, staring at the sky, then down at the city at the base of the hill we stood
upon. she slung her bag off her shoulders, and as she walked towards the hill, i watched her darkening shadow. what did i do now?!
"you know, (name), they say if you watch the sky over this hill for fifty one consecutive days, then your love will be reciprocated."
i laughed. "come on, chidori! who could ever believe that one!" i turned away, smirking. i thought of all the times she fell in love, only to be dumped, having only myself to comfort her. "who is it this time?" i then said flatly, with honest curiosity.
"well..." she tilted her head left, then right, then down, then back up at me, shifting her gaze all the while with tears pooling in her eyes.
"it's you, (name)."
