MEMOIR OF A PEACEMAKER
[ 1004 words total ]
||||When I was a child, I was told that one day I would do amazing things. I would travel the univer
se on a mission to make peace - with all the skill and grace as my father before me. They called me
peacemaker before I had even left my own village - a traveler of the stars who couldn't step foot in t
o the forest for their own fear that I might not come out alive. After resting so much faith in me for
years, finally the time had come for me to live up to this title I'd earned through no effort of my own
Finally, I felt I could prove myself, that I could become the peacemaker they had all hoped I would b
e! But alas, I was not to explore the galaxies far beyond my own yet. I was still far too young, too fra
gile to even explore the gentle woods which sat next to my small village.||||||||||||||||||||||||
||||But that would not stop me. While my tutor, Na'hiid, taught me about caution and negotiation, I
taught myself about the wildlife on my own planet. I was fascinated by the strange creatures that liv
ed in the Loridian forests, flora and fauna alike. It was then that I began writing journal upon journal
about everything I found, observing my surroundings in a never-ending quest to learn more. I found t
hat Glassroot flowers bloomed during the start of the harmony cycle, when the weather was warm an
d the world was at it's peak, while the Percipia bloomed at the start of the dissonance cycle where th
e opposite was true. Hurrimand Beetles, while they could grow to the enormous sizes of 60 vasts, we
re absolutely harmless. They could suck the sap out of Jungla trees without damaging the bark and st
ill leave the tree enough nutrients to continue producing it.||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
||||I was utterly fascinated by the forests and, while Na'hiid bored me endlessly with her lessons on
peacemaking protocol, I had always been excited to finally start on my mission, though now I cared l
ess about becoming an even greater peacemaker than my father and much more about learning of th
e strange flora and fauna I could find on different planets! Though my mission of peace was laid out
before me, my true mission became my passion to learn of the life I would encounter on these strang
e new worlds. ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
||||Finally came the day that I would set out on my first peacemaking mission. I learned that day of
where I would be headed - a larger planet than our own, identified in the Feros Galaxy as Gaia, or Ea
rth. Peacemakers such as myself had tried many, many years ago to make peace with this planet's in
habitants, but our attempts were unsuccessful as any beings we had found at the time had been hosti
le and unable to understand our mission there. Our information of the planet that we had long forgot
ten, Gaia from our sister galaxy, had resurfaced once again - and our plans had now been set into mo
tion. No longer was I too young or too untrained to head out on a dangerous mission such as this, whi
ch meant that now we could once again make contact with this strange world and find out if, despite
what had happened all those years ago, we could make peace with it's inhabitants.||||||||||||||||
||||I was ecstatic! Finally I would be stepping out of the protective custody I had endured as a child -
finally it was my time to do something.. dangerous! Or so I had thought. But no, I was still far too fra
gile to make this journey on my own. They assigned guards to me, tens of them at the ready, an entir
e ship and crew would fly me out to this new planet and stand by as myself and five guards would tak
e a pod down to the planet to enter a peace-talk with the native beings. Suddenly, it sounded boring.
The guards would be on constant watch, and at long last my chance to do something new and exciting
was utterly crushed. Sure, I would be travelling among the stars, but no longer was this a journey wh
ere I could learn about a new planet, it was one controlled no longer by fate but by the guiding hand
s of my guards.||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
||||Upon setting forth our plans and heading out on my mission, I already started to absorb the infor
mation I could gain from my surroundings. I learned about the ship's functions, how to repair the engi
nes, what makes a good ship's crew. Even if it was a boring mission now, I wouldn't squander such an
amazing learning experience. Perhaps, one day, I could lead my own crew - what I learned now would
be crucial! Once we had arrived to Gaia's atmosphere, I had become educated in different kinds of fig
hter pilots and their corresponding usefulness in different kinds of war ships from one particularly sea
soned crewman. While it was unlikely, with myself being a peacemaker, that I would ever use the info
rmation, his enthusiasm made the education worthwhile. Perhaps this trip wasn't completely wasted,
after all.|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
||||Our pod had landed in a forest quite like the one outside my village, though this one was massive
in comparison. I started a journal immediately, taking notes on all the surrounding flora and fauna as
we searched for sentient beings. In my time in that forest, I had started to grow quite attached to thi
s 'earth', which is why, after searching for two days and finding no life here other than the beautiful c
reatures in the forest, I was quite devastated to learn that we would be returning from this mission ea
rlier than planned. I think I'll miss the place once we leave, it really is quite enchanting.. I've lost my j
ournal, though, and even if we leave soon, there is no way I would leave this earth without it. I've alre
ady cataloged so many of the fascinating beasts here, i would never want to leave this knowledge I've
gained behind.||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
