- My thick coat's tips are nearly frosted with the ice that violently thrashes around me.
I've come to accept my fate. My paws are almost Popsicles as I continued to trek on,
the last of my hope clinging on to finding the end of this hell. I shivered and breathed
in what felt like ice crystals, burning my throat. My face felt frozen, and it felt as if
I could never show emotion. Suddenly, my legs collapsed and I was almost buried into
the powered snow. Slowly losing consciousness my vision blurred, the only thing I was
able to see was darkness and then... light. A stranger approached me, mumbling
things I couldn't understand. Their voice sounded like panic, then they were gone.
I wondered if it was a figment of my imagination, in defeat, I closed my eyes and fell
into a deep sleep.
------
The smell of soup brought me so my senses. I sat up, quickly regretting my decision to
do so. My body ached, badly. I slowly peeled open my eyes to find myself in a cabin, the
wind whipping around the sides, but never freezing the inside. Blankets upon blankets
were layered on top of me. I instinctively wanted to cuddle inside of them. The door
swung open with a BANG and I sat up quickly, adrenaline coursing through my veins.
They were covered head to toe in warm climbing gear. A bandanna covered their mouth,
they wore a sweater and on top of that a heavy duty jacket, lined with... animal fur?
A beanie covered their ears and head, cleverly keeping them warm. A deep voice filled
the room.
"What were you doing out there?" He sounded... angry and a little concerned.
"I-I got lost." I responded, a little weaker than I'd like but, still, how could you
not shake at a creature of that size.
"You're lucky I found you." He set down what looked to be a
device of some sort, pulling off the goggles to reveal a rather... handsome face. No,
No, No. This guy could kill you. But, he's really good looking. When he removed the
cloth covering his face, I got a better look at him. He spoke again,
"It's rude to stare at someone who just saved your life." For the first time I felt heat
in my cheeks, embarrassed I was caught staring.
"M-M-My apologizes. Thank you, S-Sir."
"C'mon, I made some soup to warm you up."
He moved over to the fireplace, sniffing the aroma that seemed heavenly to me.
He took a ladle and spooned a hearty portion into a bowl, setting a spoon inside
of it. My muscles ached as I sat up, determined to try this, heaven sent bowl of
soup. As soon as I took a small bite, I was scarfing down the rest, a warm feeling
filling my belly. I gratefully smiled, and shivered a little from the warmth.
"It was amazing! Thank you." He seemed to soften up a little bit, cracking a smile.
"You're welcome. And next time, don't try to die on someone's lawn." He chuckled
heartily, serving up some soup of his own, eating it much slower than I did. I relaxed in
the comfort of this cabin. It was small but, it was livable. I closed my eyes and rested my
head on the table. I felt blankets being pulled onto me, and soon I found myself falling
asleep in a stranger's home. It was... comforting. Like I almost knew them for my whole
life. My body relaxed and I was asleep within moments, a quiet chuckle coming from their
throat.
"You haven't changed one bit."
