"well, what do we have here?" a soft voice murmured, fairly close to tali. she lifted her head out of surprise, unnerved by the proximity of the other. she was an orphan and a homeless one at that. the other kalons usually left the homeless alone -- that's just how they were. but this one, fit with a pink bowtie and a smile, approached her slowly.

upon further inspection, they noticed şeftali's dingy fur and ratty clothes. "why don't you come inside, dear? i'll fix you up something to eat," he offered and held out a hand. a bit wary but hungry, she accepted the warm welcome and was pulled to her feet, led into the bakery. the aromas made her mouth water, and the kalon noticed with a chuckle. they pushed a plate filled with strawberry rhubarbs towards her, and her eyes widened. tali hadn't seen so much food in so long! immediately, she began to scarf all of them down -- despite her manners -- and finished them off quickly.

the kalon with the bowtie continued to laugh and ruffled her hair, which made her cheeks flush. no one had treated her like this...well, maybe she'd never been treated like this before. şeftali couldn't remember. at her expression, he frowned and questioned, "do you live anywhere, honey?"

biting her lip, she cast her gaze down to the floor and sighed, "no...my parents died in a car crash when i was three, and i don't have any other family members who would be willing to take care of me."

folding their arms over their chest, they frowned and pursed their lips, considering this. "well, why don't you live with me? i could certainly use some company."

at that, şeftali's mouth gaped open, and she stammered, "n-no...i couldn't possibly...i'd only be a burden!"

"no such thing," he protested and took her into his arms, stroking her hair. at his touch, she relaxed and sighed gently. she could surely get used to this. they smelled of pastries and other baked delights scattered around the store's counters.

"i'm alix," he continued, "and i'm your new brother."

June ran as quickly as she could, the rain pouring down, her fur and hair sticking to her like glue. Every breath that left her body left a puff of
smoke in it's wake. It was cold, nearly freezing even. If June didn't get somewhere warm soon, who knows what could happen. Her thoughts of
getting inside were interrupted by the soft crying of a child. She could only hear it, and she knew she had to follow the sound.

Frantically, she looked about, turning her cranium this way and that, until finally, a louder wail of cries led her to the child. She was shocked to
see a Kalon kit all by herself, crying, shivering, and wet from the rain. "Oh no! A kit all alone in the freezing rain?" June said, worriedly. She
approached the child quietly and said, "Little miss, where are your parents? Are you lost? I can help you..." The orangey kit only looked up at
June, her long ears muddied, her eyes red from crying. The child shook, her breath coming out in white puffs of smoke. The child was to cold to
speak. "You need to come with me for now, okay? It's freezing out here and I'm not going to leave you..." June said, helping the young kit up.

The child clung to June as though she were her mother, her shivers sending a chilling realization through June's head. Did someone just
leave her here? Why would someone do such a thing? June shook the thoughts from her head. They had to get home. The thunder in the
distance was loud and uncanny, and nowhere near pleasant. Everytime the small child heard it, she would cling to June as though she were the one
about to be hit by lighting. June shivered and decided it was for the best to hold the child and run before the temperature lowered
any further.

Much slipping and running later, the child clinging to June, they finally arrived, cold and wet at June's home, where she lived with her fiance,
Mizu. She ran inside as quickly as she could, and ran to get a blanket and towels for the young child. She set the small one on the couch and
ruffled her with towels, then threw a blanket around her. "Is that better, little miss?" June asked, curious.

The small kit finally spoke. "Yes... Thank you for what you did... I got lost on a family trip and... well... my parents ended up no being able
to find me... I was so scared..." her voice was soft and began to brake as more tears fell from her face.

The door to June's apartment clicked open, starling her and the child. In came Mizu, groceries in his arms. "June, I'm ho-" he stopped his words
short when he looked at the child. "Who is this?" Mizu asked, his deep voice gentle and calm. "I found her. If I hadn't taken her from that alley when
I did the poor thing would have frozen to death..." June said, looking to the lop eared kit. The young child spoke, her voice quiet and sweet. "We
were on a family vacation... the Seabird Fair here in town... I was looking at something and the next thing I knew, my family was gone. I ran everywhere, calling their names, but no one came... I went into the alley and sat their, looking at everyone who passed by. Not a single
person stopped to ask me if I was lost, and help me. I started to feel numb to the cold of winter. But then you found me... I couldn't be more grateful...Thank you...June..." the child said, smiling up at June. "I've got one thing to ask..."the child spoke again,"Will you guys be my new mommy and daddy?"
June could not believe her ears. Mizu and June shared a look that said 'We have no choice'. "We will, sweet one. I promise you that we won't lose you." The child smiled even more and jumped into June's arms, crying happily. Mizu joined in on the fun and hugged the pair as well. Sure, it was sudden, but June and Mizu's life, as well as the child's, began to change forever.

A few years have passed, and life for the three couldn't be any better! Pesca loves telling about her biological family, and how her parents always loved each other, joking about things and laughing and having fun together. June and Mizu love listening to her tell her stories, and love to take her to do her favorite things she did with her biological family. Pesca couldn't have asked for better parents, and hopes one day, she'll reunite with the family she lost.
