PROMPT 12
Aɴᴏᴛʜᴇʀ ᴄʀʏsᴛᴀʟ!

Now that he'd found the last previous two crystals, Minnow was prepared to deal with the lavalands crystal. At least, he thought he was prepared. While the last two he'd happened to stumble upon while traveling, he hadn't seen a sign of it so far, so this time he needed to expand his search. The caves he'd been travelling in had quite a few twists and turns and extra caverns he'd never gone through.

After hours of looking through the caves, it became evident to Minnow he'd gotten hopelessly lost. There were practically no memorable landmarks he could keep track of, and the ones he tried keeping track of seemed to be repeated. Not to mention the intense heat-- it was becoming extremely uncomfortable for him, mostly due to his thick coat. Maybe looking here wasn't such a good idea.

And then, among the countless lava pools, he finally found a good sign. There was a glow unlike that of the lava all around, and upon further inspection it definitely was coming from the crystal. However, it was floating above a lava pool. There was no way Minnow could reach it without dying. So, he did what he'd gotten used to throughout his journey-- pull out a spell book and hope it works.

Finding the crystal wasn't too band. Prying it out of the grasp of the shadow chickens was easier said that done, though

Gale rubbed her eyes. "So tell me how you guys got this thing again?" The redfurred kalon had just been woken up by her two friends, clutching the red gem in their paws and waving it at her. It was the dead of night- in Gale's mind, she should still be sleeping, and she intended to go back to bed after they explained themselves a second time.

"It was inside a lava slime. A few swipes of my sword and it disintegrated, leaving the gem on the ground. The real trouble was chasing the little bugger down- it kept of slipping away before I could strike. Oh, and Mike provided moral support," Adelaide grinned, tossing the gem into the air and catching it with the same paw. Mike nodded. His eyes were drooping, and the male didn't feel like he needed to add anything.

Gale yawned. "Alright, I'm going back to sleep then. Good night. Or morning. Whatever it is." She rolled over, closing her eyes. Soon, her breathing evened out and she slipped into slumber.

Adelaide placed the gem in her bag, next to the other two that they had already collected. "Three down, one to go," she murmured before curling up on her mat. "Night, guys."

A heavy bag laid on top of Pip, slowing them down quite a bit. They were trying to save their water as best they could even though the heat was unbearable. The Kalon sat down, taking a small drink of water and looking around at all of the lava and rocks- they were tired of seeing them. Ahead of them, quite a bit in the distance, they could see where the Lavalands ended. Finally! Pip thought, happy that their time in this land would be over soon. The end was so soon and they still hadn't found the crystal. This worried Pip as they knew they needed to find it, but they had no clue as to where it might be. Pip guessed that it'd be in a dangerous place, hiding somewhere. The Forest's crystal was pretty easy to find, but since this was the second land, they knew it would most likely be harder to get.

" Where are you hiding? " Pip asked the Lavalands as if it would just tell them. Pip took their bag off and left it hidden behind a large rock so they could travel easier for a minute. " Hey! " some unknown voice called out. Pip looked around and found where the voice was coming from, another Kalon. " Yes? " Pip asked, confused. " Are you looking for the Lavalands' crystal? " the unknown Kalon asked. " Uhh... yes, why? " Pip asked, confused about who the Kalon was. " I know where it is, " they whispered to Pip. " Alright? Where is it? " Pip questioned the male. " I can't tell you! That'd be cheating! I will give you a hint though, " they paused for a moment.

" Look for the bird, " they said and turned around to run back from where ever they came from. " A bird? That guy's gotta be crazy!" Pip groaned. They had hope they would actually be getting some help. In the back of their mind, they kind of believed that maybe the crystal was with a bird as they had seen many chickens around the Lavalands, even keeping one as their own. Little Sparkler had caught Pip's attention and now was their little penny sized pet chicken that always sat on their shoulder silently. Maybe the Kalon wasn't so crazy...

Pip went back to their bag, not wanting to leave it so far behind and forget where it was. Putting the heavy bag on their back already made them tired, but they had a job to do, bag or not. Pip continued on, little Sparkler looking in all different directions as she always did. " Where could you be stupid crystal... " Pip mumbled, looking everywhere. Even though the end of the Lavalands was straight ahead, Pip had a feeling that they'd need to make a couple of turns in order to find the crystal. They knew the crystal wouldn't just be placed in front of them with a sign that simply said 'take me'.

Pip decided to change their route, taking a turn. They were now in between two volcanoes and it was a tight squeeze for Pip to fit through. Struggling to get out, Pip made it out of the narrow path and took another turn. Out of the corner of their eye, they saw something shining brightly. " The crystal!" Pip already knew it had to be it as nothing else was as bright as a crystal. Picking up the pace, Pip hurried over to where the light was coming from. They were way too excited to get out of the Lavalands that they ended up tripped over their own feet while running. Getting up and brushing it off, Pip continued with a good feeling in their stomach.

A... phoenix?

Pip couldn't believe their eyes, the Kalon was right! He had told them to look for a bird and there it was, the crystal was sitting right on the back of a fiery phoenix. " Oh god... " how were they supposed to get it? The phoenix turned and looked towards Pip, letting them see what a little, ugly face they had. Pip couldn't help but to laugh, but even though the face was funny, they knew it would be hard to get the crystal from them. Heart beating, Pip took a couple of steps towards the large bird. The phoenix just continued to stare at them.

" Hey there, birdy birdy... " Pip cooed as calmly as they could, getting awfully close to it. Out of nowhere, Pip's chicken clucked loudly and jumped off of the Kalon's shoulder. " Sparkler! " Pip cried, watching as tiny chicken ran towards the large phoenix.

Pip was surprised when the phoenix just allowed Sparkler to crawl on top of their back towards the crystal. Pip was amazed that the tiny chicken had enough strength to push the paw-sized crystal. The crystal came bouncing towards Pip, landing a couple of feet in front of their front paws. " Sparkler! You're a genius! " Pip cried, picking up the crystal and putting it in their bag. Sparkler came running back to Pip, allowing the Kalon to place them back on their shoulder. " Thank you, Mr. Phoenix! " Pip called as they turned around and began walking back to the exit of the Lavalands. " Only one more to go, huh Sparkler? " Pip said to the chicken, happy to have their company.
