    Prompt Five - Idiots
    Feat. Faris, Amir & Eliseo

      "Eliseo! Put that down!"

"But I needed it, it's for my aaart" the blue haired kalon whined, his beautiful face twisting in displeasure as he cradled the oddly shaped boulder protectively, glaring accusing up at his brother.

"Hey Elise, Look at this mushroom" Amir supplied, unhelpfully.

"You're going to tire yourself out, carrying all...that" Faris sighed, gesturing to the bulging sack of...stuff hanging from Eliseo's arms.

Eliseo looked down at the sack, and back up at him, large golden eyes set in an expression that twisted at Faris' heart.

      "No"

      "But-"

      "I said no!"

"Amir!! Tell Faris I can keep the rock!!" The youth turned to his other brother for assistance.

"He can keep the rock." Amir deadpanned, poking appraisingly at a large, and faintly glowing mushroom he had plucked from the undergrowth.

"DON'T YOU DARE EAT THAT-" Faris cried, reaching for the mushroom in Amir's hands.

"Whatever, mom." Amir said, as he took a large bite of the unfamiliar plant, and immediately began hacking.

"We are going to die out here in this godforsaken forest!" Faris hissed despairing through his teeth, as he violently thumped Amir on the back in an attempt to dislodge the chunk of probably-poison mushroom that had gotten lodged in his brothers throat on the way down; While Eliseo cursed wildly in his peripheral, having accidently dropped the boulder on his own foot. Every monster within a ten mile radius probably knew exactly where they were at this point.

ʟᴏᴄᴀʟ ᴡɪʟᴅʟɪғᴇ
( 862 words ) - Araxie

Woods are not quite the danger many believe them to be; they are homes for hundreds of creatures, they scuttle across decaying leaves and make their homes in solid trunks of oak and spruce. Tis not the fault of the creatures that the woods from a Kalon's eyes are frightening and foreboding; t'was not beast that drove a Kalon mad with hallucinations of a demonic presence or vengeful panther. The woods locked her limbs tightly, wove her branches and shunned the light, and in turn her charges learned to peer into the darkness with wide glowing eyes. A Kalon could take the advice, never travel alone without light least one goes mad, and the forest will stand in somber silence.

Three companions take their rest within the forest, long since past the grove of thinned trees, and now settle themselves among thick trunks-- they tower to the sky, seem never ending, interwoven branches are the sky in such a place where darkness is thought to be frightening and light as salvation. There are few to testify against a statement, the dark of the woods is where one will meet the most unsavory of creatures-- from beasts that stand at the resounding height of twenty feet tall ( of which Araxie claims to be an exaggeration of frightened travelers, for a beast that lives in these woods with tree trucks so close together would not be able to reach the height of twenty feet, and he even doubts one could reach the height of ten ) to small, skittering bugs ( of which Araxie claims would be abundant ).

They pack themselves together shoulder to shoulder beneath the base of an oak that has taken far too much room within the forest; whose roots stretch and rip the ground, prime targets for the clumsy to trip over that now serve as back rests for the tired and exhausted. Roots thick enough to shield half a body if they tried, and the three Kalon's settle themselves on their sides, Araxie tending to the fire with the reach of his umbrella and nothing more than that. He is too tired to be the one to care, though he has never been the one to care, too bent on logic and reasoning that he forgets the mere existence of emotions, and when he remembers them it is oft too late to apologize for his faults. At least he does not need to apologize to a fire for poking it. He rolls onto his back without a care, umbrella laid across his chest, the tip of which points to the fire and, occasionally when the fires light begins to dim dangerously low, sparks putter out to stoke it back to life.

Blue eyes are shut in content, although unlike his friends ( such a sweet word to say now, there is no sarcasm building on the tongue, no cheeky remark to follow it any longer. they were all friends, not strangers, not tired enemies ) he stays awake. The idea of sleeping in the forest is ... abhorred-- frightening even. He can not fathom how they sleep so soundly, but he believes it has much to do with the gentle kiss of a fires warmth against their cheek, and the fact the two were both cuddlers in their sleep. Araxie would resign himself the fate of fire keeper if it meant he was not snuggled to death, an eye cracked open to watch the campfires light dance across the trunk of the tree; he thinks the wood they collected will provide enough fuel, but holds no qualms on breaking the magnificent trees roots to keep them warm and safe by firelight.

Once more he closes his eye, lets himself settle into the peacefulness of the night-- and he holds in laughter, because he would not consider these woods to be peaceful, dark and foreboding, but never peaceful. There is the sound of crickets chirping, of things croaking, and above that all the crackle of wood being consumed by fire. In such a tranquil moment he is quick to understand why his companions fell asleep, his own eyelids are heavy, kissed now by the sweet lips of exhaustion from a long travel in the woods. He is close to succumbing to the gentle embrace of a heavy, black-out sleep when he feels an itch on his cheek.

He scratches it, pays no mind. Then he feels another, on his ankle. Another, then another. Too much, too many places that needed to be itched at once; both eyes snap open, he is a mess of fear and distress. Mouth agape, he studies his body, the fur moving wild-- by fire light he notices that his fur was not moving, but rather beetles had coated themselves across his body.

He howls, thrashes against the ground, and such a mess sends the beetles skittering off of his body. Araxie looked back towards his companions, still nestled sleeping together, and atop their blanket sat a mass of ... sleeping beetles? Disgruntled, frightened, with his heart racing a million miles an hour Araxie could see his own foolishness.

How ... how idiotic he was! The beetles just wanted to be warm, too!

story POV: Andrew

It was an incredibly long time before me, Cindy, and Greg decided on a spot to set up camp. I set down the super heavy backpack and began to unpack our small tent and pillows. As soon as we got there, Cindy headed out again to go and explore the area and set up monster traps. Greg helped me set up our tent, though he was the only one sleeping in it since he was the most scared of the dark.I and Cindy didn't mind sleeping outside since I mostly enjoy sleeping under the stars.

It was a few minutes before me and Greg heard frantic footsteps coming toward our campsite. Cindy busted through the bushes and hugged me and Greg tightly. "Another m-monster is coming!" she struggled to speak through her fear. Greg began to shiver with her while I just rolled my eyes.

"Bears are more afraid of you than you are of them, Cindy," I said, getting up from my seated position and grabbing my slingshot to chase whatever the threat may be. "You don't have to run like that."

"But it wasn't a bear!" she exclaimed, hiding behind Greg. I noticed him just frozen in fear. I sighed. They truly were made for each other. Just kiss already. I thought.

Before I could go and see what the threat was, a tiny mouse scurried from the bushes where Cindy arrived and found a crumb to chew on. I turned around to face the cowering kalons. "Was this what you heard, Cindy?"

She shook her head, obviously too terrified to speak. I turned back around and noticed that the mouse seemed to have multiplied by at least one hundred times since now there were so many that I couldn't even count. It was like a huge wave of just tiny mice. Now I could understand my partners' fear.

I backed away slowly back to Greg and Cindy, who was just staring at the mountain of mice, terrified. The mice could easily just avalanche onto us and crush us, and they seemed to be watching us as well, waiting for us to make a sudden movement to pounce. I wasn't sure exactly what they were after, but I figured out that they were after our food supply.

"Run," I whispered to them as they stood up from their cowering. Greg's paw was wrapped around his dagger, and Cindy tried to sneak a few snacks. They didn't seem to be going anywhere anytime soon, and I got impatient. "I said run, you guys!"

As soon as I said that the avalanche began. The mouse mountain began to fall on top of us. I picked up Cindy and pushed Greg out of the way of the biggest cluster of mice. A few landed on us, and Cindy wouldn't stop wriggling! It was a lot of struggling, but we managed to escape the wave of mice and we were now running out to who knew where.

It seemed like forever until we stopped running to take a break. "Welp..." Cindy said as I put her down. "There goes of our food and weapons...."

"W-well maybe they didn't take all of our stuff..?" Greg suggested, trying to stay optimistic, though I noticed that he was about to start crying. "In the m-morning w-we can go back and check."

And we did just that. It was a long night without shelter, but we were able to find some large leaves to use as blankets and beds. As soon as dawn hit, we headed back to our campsite. After the long walk back, we found that all of our stuff had holes and bite marks on them, and our food was pretty much gone... except for the bananas that we had.

I sighed and picked up a bag that had the least amount of holes and bites marks, and put the bananas and knife in it. I turned to my partners' who looked at the scene in sadness. "Don't worry guys," I said, patting them both on the head. "We'll get new cool stuff when we continue our quest to save kalon kind."

Prompt 6

The party dragged onwards until collapsing again once they could set up camp. Abacus and Elizabeth were drop-dead tired from straying through the forest thus far, and it seemed Belial was the driving force keeping them going along despite their obvious lack of enthusiasm. He set up the camp, unfolding their newly-purchased tent and watching as they went to crash before he even so much as lit the bonfire. Belial stayed awake roasting marshmallows and watching the sky through the trees, counting stars he could catch through the leaf ceiling that clouded it.

He reclined a bit to gaze up and he slipped a small smile to himself. Truly, if there was one good thing about being away from the city-- it was this. This priceless view could last a hundred years and it'd be too soon to get up and wander off to another adventure. Sitting underneath the stars with the warmth of the campfire licking his toes was something he could really appreciate-- it honestly made him feel like more of this was real. The gravity of the situation had been avoiding him thus far, and as he pulled another toasty marshmallow off his stick to place into a s'more, Bel figured that was probably for the best.

As he munched on his treat he heard things stirring behind him. The crackle of brush caused his head to turn, and he squinted at the darkness, inching a bit closer to the campfire and defensively cradling his roasting stick-- holding it to his chest as if the thing might save his life in the way his daggers were capable of.

He squinted at it, though the noise did not return. Belial slowly returned to what he was doing, but kept his mind sharp-- prepared for the worst case scenario of a solo fight against another wave of pesky demons. He waited a considerable time, but nothing came of it. He sighed, shaking it off as nothing, and stood to enter the tent.

He turned his back on the fire for only a moment before remembering that he'd forgotten to extinguish the fire for the night, and upon turning back to do so he saw it. A small fox had curled up in front of the fire and was basking in its radiant glow. Bel snickered as he watched the curious creature's nose twitch as it searched for, no doubt, Belial's s'more-crafting materials.

He backed into the tent a bit before chucking the little guy a marshmallow, quickly ducking inside once he had to make sure he wasn't seen. He only heard the small squeak of excitement that the tiny thing made before it gobbled the marshmallow up and began sniffing around for more, coming right up to the tent itself in its quest. Bel found himself comfortable in the tent and he dozed into a content slumber.

When the morning came there was a loud and boisterous yell from Abacus as he stumbled outside that morning to find about a dozen foxes sleeping outside their tent-- no doubt in search of more food.

Featuring Dallas
Dallas crouched before his fire, taking in the last of its warmth before stomping it out. He brushed ash of his paws and shook his fur. He sighed and stretched, yawning widely. In the corner of his eye he caught a glimpse of movement, and he gasped. His tensed body relaxed when he saw it was only a doe, daintily grazing on grass only to get startled itself from Dallas' reaction. He watched it strut away, always keeping an eye on him with her white tail flicked up as a warning to others. Dallas looked around, and didn't see a herd. Slowly, quietly, he followed the doe. But he had no intention of hunting it. He wanted something else. Of course, the doe would need to drink, and Dallas was ever so thirsty. Plus, maybe this forest creature knew something about the trees that he could learn.
He leaned over the bubbling stream, cupping it in his paws. He smiled a thanks to the deer as it lowered its head and licked up water, a fair distance away. Dallas was thankful for the helpful little creature.
