"Yeah, I kinda... forgot it." Gale chuckled nervously, drawing her paws up to her chest.
Adelaide's jaw dropped. "How could you forget that? That's, like, the most important part of your entire inventory!"
Mike just watched. It was normal for Mike to just watch these interactions. After all, watching and retelling was his job.
Gale shrugged. "I just did." Adelaide groaned.
The item in question, of course, was Gale's gold armband. It had a ruby in the center, and... well, that ruby was imbued with magic, and allowed Gale to use her abilities. "I... kindof never had it in the first place."
"...what?" Adelaide's face contorted. If there was one thing the female hated, it was being lied to. "So you aren't a mage! You're just a useless peasant girl, enamored by the lives of heros and thinking you can do it yourself! You! Did you lie to me, too? You aren't a bard, are you? You're probably a sheepherder!" Adelaide spun away from the flinching Gale, directing her attention now to the quiet bard.
Mike blinked slowly. "I can assure you, I am a bard." Adelaide huffed, pacing in a circle and then dropping herself onto a fallen log. She stared at the pile of sticks, which Gale was supposed to set on fire so they wouldn't freeze that night. But now... now it's obvious that Gale was nothing more than a starstruck citizen.
Minutes passed, and no one said a word. Mike looked between the two females in his party, a thought striking him. The male opened his mouth and began to sing. He sang of adventurers in ages past, monsters falling at their paws. He sang of failed missions, and successful quests. He sang of lost loves and found ones. And he sang of home. Tears sprung into Gale's eyes. The female got up from her seat, then knelt next to the pile of twigs and wood. She began to rub the sticks together, listening to Mike's song all the while. It took almost twenty minutes, but a spark finally ignited the pile. Gale stood up, cheering. Mike ended his song. Adelaide got up, placing a paw on Gale's shoulder. "I'm sorry."
