.: Something lost, something found :.

About 11 years ago I spent around 3 months in the Spanish Pyrenees with my parents in my aunt and uncle's place. The place we were staying in was a tiny village called Es Bordès high in the mountains, surrounded by jagged peaks and other small villages. It was an amazingly picturesque part of the world, and despite it being 11 years ago I can still picture the whole scene like it was yesterday. The slate roofs, the stone walls, the Garonne river running just below, it was just magical.

There were about 100 people in this village, and of course there were some kids around my age, luckily all boys- about 3 of them. One was from one of the neighbouring villages. I had seen these boys around the place (I had a bicycle purchased for me so I could explore), but being 14, not speaking Spanish, in a totally new place, I was incredibly shy and just avoided them. One day I was riding along a dirt track that links a couple of the villages, when suddenly in front of me there they all were plus a few kids from some of the nearby villages. I was trapped. I couldn't turn back as I'd ridden right up to them on a corner.

This accidental meeting made my stay at the village quite possibly the most memorable time I had ever had. They knew about as much English as I did Spanish, but we were all pretty much inseparable. Every day they would come to my house and call out for me, which they could barely pronounce my name. and we would go out on our bikes, and spend most of the day riding around. They took me to their school to sit in on a lesson, which was such an experience. The school was located in our village, but was no more than a large long house with a few desks. About half a dozen kids were taught there, from, I guess, grade 3 up to the grades the three boys were in, which they were only a few years younger than I was. All of us used to sit on the steps of the ayuntamiento (town hall type place) and watch the comings and goings, they taught me what "Puff the magic dragon" was in Spanish and we just enjoyed each other's company. We went and played football (soccer), we went riding, walking, talking (well, communicating), and it was the most amazing experience of my life, one that I will cherish forever.

But it was the one named Baron whom interested me the most. He was absolutely gorgeous, and had a beautiful name. He had a big brown/red Boxer called Neron, and lived in a small house with his mother, who I met a couple of times and was lovely. He used to wear these wide headbands which curiously is what I remember most about him. After I left I tried to stay in touch a couple, but being 14 I don't try too hard and eventually I never heard from him again after about a year after I left. I received one email from him but that was it (and funnily enough it was around the times of some very terrible bush fires in this country, as she asked about them).

Fast forward 10 years. A few months ago I started looking for Baron on Facebook. Baron - unique name I hear you say? Well no. In Spain it seems like a very common name, and I went through dozens of pages trying to find him, eventually giving up because it seemed like a lost cause.

Today I wake up, check facebook and see that someone called 'Elijah' has requested me to be his friend. Now just recently I had a spate of Spanish people add me (three in the space of a week or so), all of whom I don't know personally. I thought that this Elijah was just another one of those, until it all suddenly came back. Wasn't one of my friends from Spain Elijah? Well it turns out it was one and the same. After ten years of course totally unrecognizable, but I did manage to track down Baron. And now I am just waiting for him to reply to my friend request.

I just can't believe that after 11 years I may finally be able to get in touch with Baron, and the other two again! I think about Baron so often, wondering what he's up to, what he's doing and what he's like, and soon I'll be able to find out, and it's all thanks to Facebook. I have finally found out what that site is really all about.

It seems so strange that the last time I had contact from him was when there was bad bush fires here, and then today I wake up and I have the chance to contact him again. I felt like I'd lost a huge part of my life when I left, it had that much of an impact on me, and now thanks to the wonders of modern technology, I might be able to get some of it back!

story:
She could not believe it. She had managed to lose the one thing she could never lose. And, how does one even manage to lose a cello? Especially one that's cost made her wince.
Elsie prides herself on being an excellent friend, so of course, she offered to take care of a fellow kalon's cello while he was on vacation. Problem was, she had brought it on the train with her and promptly got distracted. What can she say? Elsie really loves sequins. Back to the matter at hand...
Elsie rushed through the midday crowds at the train station and burst into the lost and found. The grouchy old kalon behind the front desk looked up uninterestedly and spoke in a voice, not unlike nails on a chalkboard: "Whadda ya want, girly?"
"Um," Elsie stuttered nervously. "I, um, sort of, um, lost a c-cello?"
"Are you asking me or telling me?" the attendant rasped, setting his newspaper aside.
"Um, telling you?" At his raised brow, she quickly reaffirmed. "Telling you."
He beckoned her forward as he stood up with a series of pops and clunks. He shuffled over to a locked door and jammed a key he had procured into the lock. He entered the dim, musty smelling room and Elsie followed cautiously.
A light suddenly blinked unsteadily on and the room was illuminated, showcasing the many strange objects that had been found lying around the station and its trains. Elsie cautiously edged around a precariously teetering pile of knickknacks and nearly tripped over an old boot. She looked incredulously at the sheer amount of stuff that took up most of the room.
"How long as this stuff been here for?" she asked the attendant curiously, nudging a hat out of her way.
"Literally forever," he responded, studying the piles with a certain look in his eye. Dare she say it was awe?
"Wow," Elsie whispered as she passed a pile of musical instruments. She picked her way around the pile until she spotted the gleaming oak cello, already beginning to collect dust. She tugged it gently free from the pile and turned to thank the attendant. He was gone. Vanished into thin air like a ghost.
Maybe he was... Elsie thought as she clutched the cello tight and hurried back to her apartment above.

story:
"Mary Read was illegitimately born in England, in the late 17th century, to the widow of a sea captain. Because she had become pregnant as a result of an affair following the disappearance of her husband, Read's mother attempted to hide the birth of her daughter, Mary. She first began to disguise illegitimately born Mary as a boy after the death of Mary's older, legitimate brother Mark.

This was done in order to continue to receive financial support from Read's paternal grandmother. The grandmother was apparently fooled, and Read and her mother lived on the inheritance into her teenage years. Still dressed as a boy, Read then found work as a foot-boy, and later found employment on a ship. She later joined the British military, allied with Dutch forces against the French (this could have been during the Nine Years War or during the War of the Spanish Succession). Read, in male disguise, proved herself through battles.

In 1720 she joined pirate John "Calico Jack" Rackham and his companion, the pirate Anne Bonny, who both believed her to be a man."

Who love a jolly sailor bold that ploughs the raging sea"
