The sky is bright and cloudless, the sun gleaming in the sky. The waves slide up to the shore before withdrawing. A book in my lap, sunglasses sitting on the bridge of my nose, oblivious to the world is when she arrives.
Brown hair, sparkling eyes, a smile as radiant as a thousand suns, she lightly floats across the sand. She lowers herself to the ground and sets her bag down. I close my book, lifting my sunglasses to the top of my head, watching her from my chair.
Her eyes squint from the bright sun and I take the opportunity, standing and making my way to her side, holding out my sunglasses. "Pretty bright out." I kneel beside her. She looks up and a warm smile spreads across her face. "Thanks!" She says kindly, putting them on. She stands up, "Hey, I'm going to go get my cello, want to come?" She offers, a mischievous grin growing. I chuckle, "So you're a cello player?" Falling in step beside her. She nods, "Played since I was 7." She responds. I nod, as she speaks, her lilting voice addicting as any drug.
She practically floats as she walks, her gait bouncy and light like she's walking across hot coals, only she makes it look so good. She walks up to a small car and grabs a large case, lifting it over her shoulder and slamming the door, turning to head back to the beach. "Hey, would you be interested in dinner sometime?" I interject. She shrugs, "Depends, when and where," a smirk scribbled across her face. I play along, "Oh you know, probably at 4:00 down at Pizza Hut." I tease and she laughs, giving in, "Alright, fine." I smirk, "My place at 8? I'll text you my address... Oh, speaking of texting. Here's my number." I hand her a scrap of paper. She grins, pulling out her phone, entering the number. When she gets to the name spot, she pauses. "Alessandro," I chuckle. She hands me a paper as well. I add it in and look over expectantly. "Musica," She says, mimicking me as we wander back to the beach.
The beach is deserted now as she sits down and opens the case, pulling out a polished... Sculpture. As I marvel at its beauty, she takes the bow out and gently rests it across the strings, coaxing out a low, sorrowful moan. I perk my ears up, taking in every movement of her nimble fingers, dancing across the strings, bringing life to the old wood. She closes her eyes, breathing in time with the music, her volume growing to a gorgeous fortissimo, shrinking down to a soft piano, and spiraling back up to mezzo forte. The last note rings through the air and peters out, leaving an empty feeling behind. I gawk at her. "Told you I've been playing a while."
After a few hours of her playing and chatter, I check the time, frowning. "I've got to go, someone's coming over in... 5 minutes." I laugh, standing up. She picks up her case, the cello now safely tucked inside, "I'll walk to your car with you." She offers and I nod. We chatter as we walk and we're at my car far too soon. I sigh, "I guess I'll see you tomorrow at 8?" She nods excitedly. She hugs me and I kiss her cheek goodbye before sliding into my car. I wave as she walks away and lean back in my seat, closing my eyes. "You did it big guy... You snagged a gal." I smile proudly.
