constellation story (1000 word limit);;
The gods, as most people know, have always been watching us. Watching the humans whilst they learnt and grew. And they liked doing so. They liked seeing the humans discover new things and explore new lands.
Of course, the gods, who were the origin of it all, knew everything about Earth and it's hidden secrets. But they liked the enthusiasm that the humans felt to discover their other creations.
But one day, whilst they observed the humans, something came to their minds - What would happen once the humans had discovered everything they could possibly find on Earth? What would the humans, once they found that out and became bored, do?
Because, although they were in no way perfect, these creatures were the responsibility of the gods, and they did not want to see the humans become even more aggressive than they were when benefitting of the distraction of regular new discoveries.
So, together, they came to an agreement: they would create something new, another living being, that would hold more secrets than any other entity on Earth, so that the humans could discover them little by little.
So that the humans understand that this new plant was a gift from the gods, all of these plants would originate from the biggest of them all, that would stand high above them in the sky.
And the humans, that were always very observant beings, soon found a patch of these new plants lying in what seemed to be moonlight. They picked a few, then walked off.
And the gods, watching from above, became upset at how selfish the humans were. They wondered why they didn't look up, didn't look at the sky to see where the light truly came from, why they didn't notice that the light didn't come from the moon, but rather from a new constellation, composed of nine stars, that stood straight above the patch of plants.
But they couldn't help forgiving them when they saw the humans' excited faces when the new new plant was brought to them, and smiled as the name given to their find was repeated throughout the group.
A curious child that stood watching outside her hut, echoed the single word that the grown-ups were all saying.
"Fern," she muttered.
