Glasses (Transition lenses) wrote:Gladys is an older viscet who has lived a very long, very happy, and very eventful life. She has always been such a joyous soul and seen the good in everything. Though as time drew on her sight began to fade. Throughout her life she had chosen to adopt a great number of orphaned viscets, giving them the life that she would have desired her own children to have, had she ever settled down to have any. (This was not to be, though. As much as she loves children, she never cared to take a mate. She's not bothered by this, of course, as all of her adopted children will always be treated as her flesh and blood. They are, in fact, her children, regardless of whether she laid their egg or not.) So, as it were, with her failing sight, Gladys began to have a number of accidents. She'd mistake one item for another, miss steps, or a number of other visually impaired mistakes. Any and all money that Glady's had was spent on her children, never herself. She rarely ever purchased anything for herself, even if she needed it. Her joy always came from making sure that her children had what they needed. As mentioned, she'd adopted many children throughout her life, some of which were much older and now held jobs of their own. Much to Gladys' surprise, she was ushered by several of her older children out on a surprise outing. This outing required her to visit an eye doctor, where she then had to pick out a pair of glasses for herself. Though she did not approve of her children 'wasting' their money on her, she was extremely happy and very thankful that they would do this for her. They also spared no expense when it came to these glasses. They are prescription lenses with the transition lenses and even the 'fancy pants' HD 'setting' as she calls it. She is extremely impressed with these new fangled glasses and loves to show them off whenever she is with her friends, making sure to tell everyone that her glorious children gifted them to her.
The Scarf wrote:Gladys has always tried to teach her children everything she knows, this includes sewing, crochet, quilting, and just about anything else used to both pass the time as well as help make her family a little more comfortable. Male or female, she has taught every single child all the skill she knows. The scarf that she almost always wears about her neck is the combined product of not her children, but her grandchildren. Her children have shared the skill she shared with them, and now a third generation has learned the talents which has been passed down for generations (As she learned these skills from her mother as well!) It brought Gladys to tears when she was offered the gift on her birthday. Her children had always been good to her and always gifted her with presents, but this was the first time that her grand children had been able to give her a gift. And the fact that it was something they, themselves, had made...with skills that she had passed to their parents, and their parents to them. It was the realization that she had done very well in her parenting. It is such a fantastic feeling, to know that you'd done well in your life. All other accomplishments faded in comparison to the fact that she had given her children such gifts, and in turn, they were doing the same with their own children. The scarf, which she rarely ever removes, is worn with a great deal of pride. The sunflower broach being a lovely, though substantially less sentimental touch to the scarf, as she had simply found it while browsing a favored thrift store.

About Gladys wrote: Gladys is a much older viscet, one who has lived a very happy life. Happy does not mean without strife and struggles, though. There has always, and always will be, strife and struggles. She is simply not the type to allow these things to tear her down. Gladys came from a family of hard working farmers. She grew up learning how to can and preserve her own food, how to cook, sew, milk cows and goats, sheer sheep, and a great deal of other necessities. She never left this life behind, and even now, she passes her knowledge on to her children. Gladys has always enjoyed simple life, never longing for city life, or more than what she had. The only desire she ever had was for children. Gladys had always adored children, but she never found a mate to settle down with, instead, she decided to take in children who had no parents of their own. Throughout the years Gladys has adopted one after the other, giving them all everything they needed, but never spoiling them. She taught them everything she knew, teaching them how to survive and live a satisfying life. She is a very kind woman, never selfish and always thinking of her children, and now, grandchildren. She has a heavy appalachian accent and can be nasty as a viper if someone messes with her children. Otherwise, she can be the sweetest viscet you'd ever meet. Due to her age she is unable to do a great deal of things that she used to do, she does not allow this to get her down, though, and her children help her out a lot. She is very satisfied with where her life has gone, and now that her children are tending to things at home she has debated on traveling the world. Being an older viscet she knows that her time may very well be limited. She does not long for adventure, exactly, but more so to see certain parts of the world or enjoy certain experiences. The northern lights are something she has always admired and one day hopes to view. If not, though, then that is fine as well. She is not the sort to dwell on things that may never come to pass. She is a very happy woman, now, and is thankful for this.
