what does Cinco de Mayo celebrate?
Cinco de Mayo celebrates the Mexican victory against the French in the Battle of Puebla in 1862. Despite popular belief, Cinco de Mayo does not celebrate the day Mexico achieved independence. In fact, Cinco de Mayo is not even a national Mexican holiday, and many regions don't celebrate it at all. It's mainly observed in the state of Puebla, with smaller scale festivities taking place in a few other parts of the country. In the U.S., Cinco de Mayo has gained a lot of popularity, to the point that it's arguably a bigger holiday in the States than it is in much of Mexico. Even so, many Mexican-Americans celebrate it fervently, as the holiday in America has become more of a general celebration of our traditions and culture.

what does Cinco de Mayo celebrate? in Mexico, it's a quiet little holiday where kids have the day off from school, but banks and stuff are still open. it celebrates a victory won by the Mexicans during the Spanish-Mexican War back in the 1800s over Napoleon III's troops. The Mexicans had about 2000 soldiers, and the Spanish had 6000... however, the Mexicans suffered about 100 deaths, while the Spaniards had 500 before they retreated. The victory was the beginning of the end of the Spanish-Mexican War, which ended about 6 years later. However, it's quite different in America. America uses it as a day to celebrate Mexican culture and also to market Mexican items [because.. money!], and there are generally a lot of parties on this day. Funny how the country it's from is just a quiet day off, while America just parties the day away, amiright? Well, it did have SOME effect on the Americans. During the time of the battle, America was having its Civil War. Because the French were busy fighting the Spanish-American war, they couldn't send help to the Confederates.

what does Cinco de Mayo celebrate? Cinco de Mayo—or the fifth of May—is a holiday that celebrates the date of the Mexican army’s 1862 victory over France at the Battle of Puebla during the Franco-Mexican War (1861-1867). A relatively minor holiday in Mexico, in the United States Cinco de Mayo has evolved into a commemoration of Mexican culture and heritage, particularly in areas with large Mexican-American populations.

what does Cinco de Mayo celebrate?
cinco de mayo is supposed to be a commemoration to the mexican victory over
the french army at the battle of puebla. confused by most north american
citizens to be mexico's version of the foruth of july, it is also seen as a
celebration of mexican (mexican-american) culture. don't be surprised if you
see people in the us shouting about the alamo when the alamo had absolutely
nothing to do with mexican independence, the mexican-french conflicts or
celebration of mexican culture.

what does Cinco de Mayo celebrate?
it celebrates the victory of the Battala de Puebla, where the Mexican army won against French invading forces.
while the French did overrun Mexican forces in the future, it was still an important win because the
small Mexican army was greatly outnumbered by the French and won the battle against all odds.
it was a significant morale boost for the people in Mexico that is still celebrated today.
