(#328)
Why should I tell you? And why do
you want to know? I'm not a cat
who will cuddle up to anyone at
the first kitty treat. Rub me the
wrong way and you will feel my
claws. If you want to gain my trust
you should know that you will have
to be someone who will fight hard
and not be afraid. I don't mind living
alone, so you can get that worried
look off your face, not like I care.

I'm a tom, can't you tell?

My horoscope is Aries, energetic
daredevil and selfish, I can have
many different sides.

Mint was born to a modest family, living in the big city of New York City. Mint's life was fairly simple, every day he would wake up strech and eat. Most of his day would be spent by himself, curled up. Life was good like this, boring, yes, but good. The children went off, and Mint would only see them once in a great while. This suited him just fine, as he was perfectly happy living by himself, with the two older people. One day there was talk of moving out. Now, normally he ignored the mindless babling of his humans but today he listened, mainly because there were many fingers pointed at him. The horrible day came, all of the furniture was being taken away, as his owners were moving to an apartment that didn't allow cats. They were not the smartest because once they saw the beautiful apartment they almost forgot about the big, bold text on the brochure that said
NO PETS ALLOWED! Mint, scared of all of his furniture being taken away hid on the couch, under a blanket. The delivery people, distracted in conversation, didn't see the cat, and just loaded mint into their truck.
Later, Mint had fallen asleep only to be awakened by the screeching of tires. Furniture banged against each other and pillows went flying, and so did Mint. The people came around the back to see if anything was damaged, they were waking away when they saw the cat. At first they ignored it and kept on waking, but then their mind caught on to the fact that there should not be a cat in the wan. Screaming she rushed to the driver, making crazy hand signals. The driver shook his head but followed her. When he walked to the back Mint made a dash for it, only to feel strong hands catching the scruff of his neck. He imeadiatly went limp, trying not to look as innocent as possible, but the driver just scoffed and dropped mint down and shouted something that sounded like "goanddon'tcomebackidon'twanttoseeanymorecatsinmyvan, EVER! Mint, thouroghly terrified at this point ran and hid in a clump of bushes. Finding himself next to a wall. He found a tunnel at the bottom and wiggled in, his heart sinking when he realized that it wasn't a tunnel, just a hole.
Mint survived like this for some months, scavenging food by night and hiding by day. It was a tiresome life, not to mention a hard one, nothing like his old life at all. One winter, food had been scares, so scares that he had been coming out in the day time to scavenge food. When he had gone one or two weeks without food, there was a small puddle that he could drink from, he had lost count, knowing only that he was so hungry. He stepped outside and saw food. What he didn't see was that there was a cage around the food, so the moment he stepped inside he was trapped. The cage had been set by someone hoping to catch a racoon so they were quite suprised to find a cat there instead. The husband of the family was allergic so there was no question that they could keep the cat so they took it to the shelter instead.

When he was taken into the shelter he wasn't sure what he had been expecting but it wasn't this. He was put in a cage that was staked next to other cages, all full of other cats. Suddenly a big human came into his room. He walked up and down the rows of cages, filling the trays with little pellets. When he got to the cage of the cat next to him he was shocked when she rubed against the human, it was as if she acctually liked the human. He then moved to Mint's cage. He opened the door, and put in the pellets. He reached out tward Mint, only intending to scratch the new cat behind its ears, but Mint reared back and raked his claws down the invading hand.
Now whoever is giving out the food will just push the food through the cage and not even open it. Life has been lonely for Mint, he sees the other cats get taken out and played with but they look at the sign on his cage and walk by. He is not sure what it says but he knows that it is the reason that no one wants him. What the sign actually says is this
Hello, my name is MintI have been at the shelter
for a year and am looking
for a forever home, if you
are interested in adopting
me please talk to the staff.
I need a quiet house with no
children as I can be aggresive
at times.
Mint had started to believe that he would never be adopted and that this is where he would spend the rest of his life. One day a young couple came in, looking for a cat. They actually walked straight to his cage. When they opened it he tried to follow the other cats example, he rubbed against them and started purring. He jumped out of his cage and even though his first instict was to dash for the door he instead jumped on the woman's lap. He curled up, he had forgotten how good it felt to be held.
