Personality ::
Oliver is a very shy and quiet boy who doesn't
talk much. Being selectively mute, he only talks
in front of certain people. Even within his own
family he is hesitant to talk to a couple
members. It is quite a rarity for anyone to hear
him speak at school, and if he must
communicate during class, he does it minimally
and silently. Avi and Rufus are a little worried
about him because of his anxiety in social
surroundings, but are trying to deal with it in
the gentlest way possible. They don't want to
push Oliver too far out of his comfort zone,
but they also don't want him to stay quiet
forever.
Aside from his anxiety and insecurities, Oliver
is actually a very kind and caring kalon. He
shows compassion whenever possible, and if
you need a shoulder to cry on, he'll be there.
Upholding his duties around the household is
not a problem for him, as he likes to work hard.
Getting things done, such as chores or odd jobs,
helps him feel like he is more a part of the
family. Oliver can get very lonely sometimes
despite how large of a family he has, so he
tries to keep himself as preoccupied as
possible. He has always been more work-
oriented and doesn't like to sit around for too
long with nothing to do.
More introverted, Oliver doesn't like places with
lots of people, especially if they are people he
doesn't know. However, even at family
get-togethers during holidays and such, he tends
to sink into the background and stay quiet.
Books are his escape and delight, and if you have
any good recommendations, he would love to
hear them! That is, if he hasn't read it already.
Relationships with family
Avi- Avi brings out Oliver's fun side. They love
to play together and go to fun places. Avi calls it
bonding, since they feel Oliver doesn't get very much
attention from them. It's difficult to evenly split up
yourself as a parent among five kids. However, although
careful, Avi sometimes pushes Oliver too far out of
his comfort zone, especially when in a public place.
This is why Oliver isn't always comfortable around
Avi. He loves Avi, and knows they just want to help,
but some of the time, it's just too much for him. He
isn't a fan of the bar, either. Too crowded with way
too many people.
Rufus- Oliver can relate to Rufus more then he
can relate to Avi. Both of them are introverts and like
to hang out together. Although, when they spend time
together, neither of them talk much, but there is no
need. They have a very tight bond and Rufus, or
Daddy, as he calls him, is one of the very few kalons
Oliver is comfortable speaking to. He absolutely loves
to help with the edible arrangements, and likes to ask
Rufus about his business and strategies when selling.
Rufus tends to worry about Oliver because of his
anxiety in social places and has even put him in
therapy for it and his selective mutism. Oliver doesn't
really like therapy, but he knows his parents only
want the best for him. So, he doesn't put up a fight
over it.
Elliot- Although he attempts to be kind
to Elliot, Oliver usually steers clear when he's
in a mood or a fit. Oliver almost never speaks to
him or in front of him, as he doesn't want to say
anything to insult or provoke him. Elliot makes
him very uneasy, and despite loving him just like he
does his other brothers, they aren't very close.
Cody- Oliver doesn't really understand Cody. It
isn't that he's not nice, it's just that he finds Cody a
little intimidating. His loudness and outgoing
personality makes Oliver extremely nervous, so he
doesn't ever really talk to him. He will listen best he
can, of course, but never actually responds with words.
Zach- He likes talking to Zach when he is feeling
slightly more social. Both of them being introverts, they
can relate a little. But he knows not to bother Zach
when he's under pressure or in a stressful mood. Oliver
is pretty in tune to his siblings' feelings, so he knows
when to leave them alone. But every Tuesday afternoon,
Oliver and Zach have a secret "book club." They meet up
in a designated location and discuss the book they've
both been reading. It's a sort of bonding experience for
them.
Interesting Facts
-Oliver gets along better with girls then guys. They are much easier to talk to and since his own family is mostly made up of males, he finds them quite interesting and loves interacting with them, as he doesn't get to do so often. Avi says they all crush on him because he's so cute and quiet, but Oliver refuses to believe that.
-Although he is extremely kind and caring towards others, some may see him as weak due to his shyness.
-He absolutely adores bugs. Oliver is that one kid in class who will freak out if someone tries to kill a bug that got inside. If someone does attempt to do this, he'll carefully pick it up and take it outside, making sure it gets to safety. At home, he is just as fascinated with them. In his room, Oliver has an ant farm and a terrarium where he keeps small insects. The best way to unwind and relax, he finds, is to sit on his bed and watch the ants march through their tunnels, scurrying around. It reminds him of his crazy family, in a way.
-In order to make money and save up for things he wants to buy, Oliver mows lawns in the neighborhood. He likes to think of it as a small step to overcome his fear of speaking to people, even if he almost never talks to the people paying him to do their lawns. It's a good way to work hard and be productive, though.
-When he grows up, Oliver wants to run a catering business. Perhaps Rufus and his edible arrangements is rubbing off on him.
-Despite not being able to speak very often, Oliver is a wonderful writer. Another goal of his is to someday write and publish a book. Keeping silent all the time does have its perks, though few. It allows him to let more thoughts flow through his mind and get more ideas, and he also picks up a lot of great words and phrases. When he writes, that is when Oliver finally lets all his feeling pour out. He also has a very wide vocabulary when writing, and gets creative with ideas. Usually, he writes at night when the noise in the house has died down and he can focus.
-Contrary to most kids these days, he prefers classic video-games over the newer ones, and he hates violent games. Why would you want to watch blood spatter across the screen and kill people when you can go gobble up some ghosts instead? Pacman, Donkey Kong, and Frogger are the best games of all time, in his opinion. The only modern game he really likes is Animal Crossing. It is such a peaceful and beautiful game. Besides paying off your heavy mortgage for your house, it's a pretty chill setting.

Well you see, I'm not much of a talker. I prefer to communicate silently, or not at all, if possible. Writing is a good outlet for me because I can use a wide vocabulary without stumbling over myself and getting nervous. That way, I can actually think about what I'm saying before I say it. Of course, when I try to speak out loud it's just a mess, so I just don't do it often. I get way too nervous.
