Old Nordic Drafts wrote:Once on the verge of extinction, the jäykkä were brought from their native frigid nordic home to that of warmer climates in efforts to help save a dying breed. They were best known for being the companion of old nordic vikings and were once thought to be a gift bestowed to the vikings from their gods. They are rigid and strong, ever lasting through all types of terrains and adapting to the needs of the people they lived along side of. In the beginning they were mostly only used as barn companions or farm help, but in better efforts to save the species and promote diversity they hand selected a few lipizzaner stallions and mares to add some better genetic diversity as well as hoped it would help the jäykkä feel more at home in their new environment. Today they are an all around versatile breed of horse, being able to pull cart and any heavy lifting due to their heritage but with the grace and agility introduced to them from the lipizzaners.

How you met/tamed them:
From afar, it looked like a rock. Then it moved and scared the living daylights out of me. But when I approached, I saw a painted draft that looked a bit tubby and smiled. The draft horse didn't seem to be afraid of me, so I approached it. They whinnied and sniffed the hand I held out and I smiled. When I liiked into her eyes I could tell she was meant to be mine, and I could tell she was destined to be with me. What an honor it was to have her as my horse. She seemed smitten of me, and I was smitten of her.

How you met/tamed them: As majestic as the stallion appeared at a first glance, he was not invulnerable. That became apparent as I inched closer to him. I wondered why the horse didn't run or charge as I drew near until I saw the reason. The horse's tail had become entangled in a thornbush. The creature's agitation only grew as I approached and he began to paw the ground in warning. Knowing just how dangerous the situation could get, I slowly began to free the tail. The stallion alternated between trying to bite me and pulling away from the bush. The task turned into a time-consuming one and it took just short of an hour to free him. When freed, the stallion bolted without a second glance in my direction. I was left with raw and bloodied hands from the thorns and bruised arms from the knocks I took from the horse. Needless to say, I was proud of my work and set about cleaning my hands in the river. The snapping of branches caught me off guard and I turned back to find the same stallion. He stood a ways from me with a watchful eye. I took slow steps towards him, and while he tossed his head, he didn't back down. I ran my aching hands along his neck and in turn he nuzzled into my shoulder - an act I took as his way of thanking me.
Congrats <3
