Old Nordic Drafts wrote:Once on the verge of extinction, the jäykkä were brought from their native frigid nordic home to that of warmer climates in efforts to help save a dying breed. They were best known for being the companion of old nordic vikings and were once thought to be a gift bestowed to the vikings from their gods. They are rigid and strong, ever lasting through all types of terrains and adapting to the needs of the people they lived along side of. In the beginning they were mostly only used as barn companions or farm help, but in better efforts to save the species and promote diversity they hand selected a few lipizzaner stallions and mares to add some better genetic diversity as well as hoped it would help the jäykkä feel more at home in their new environment. Today they are an all around versatile breed of horse, being able to pull cart and any heavy lifting due to their heritage but with the grace and agility introduced to them from the lipizzaners.
To win this Nordic Draft, tell me how you met and tamed them. You can show this in any way you like; story, art, anything you can think of. There is no minimum or limit on this. c:

At Misty Forests one day were on our routine check, making sure everything was safe and there were no problems, when I herd a thump and a the sound of a truck rushing off. When I moved tward the entrance I saw a shape on the ground. At first I was worried that it was dead, but them I saw it breathing. Slowly, I walked tward it, trying not to scare it. I saw it was a young mare, probably only a month old. When I got close it jumped up and dashed. We go worried because we knew that it was heading for the river, and a foal that size could easily be washed away. We hurried after it and soon herd the sound we knew was coming, frantic splashing. And she probably would have been washed away if it wern't for a tree branch that had fallen in the middle of the river. Once we got her out and dried off we saw her rune. We thought it was apt that her rune meant survivor. She has stayed here ever since.

How we met
The first time I had caught a glimpse of the stocky 'phantom horse', we called him that because of the disappearing act he put into play each time we saw him, was when we had gotten word that there were wrangler's in the area that would rope every horse they could get their dirty paws on. It seemed as if he just faded into thin air most of the time, he was so quiet and graceful with the way he moved. I had gone out to check on our own herd in one of the father pastures with my twin brother, Miles, and as we followed the path along the length of the fence, that was when I noticed him. Standing near the tree line of the forest, as calm as if he had no worries in the world. As if the humans and horses before him struck no ounce of fear through his core. The large stallion lifted his head to look at us before lowering it again, returning to his grazing. I had been amazed to see this massive, calm creature be total at ease in our presence. Most wild horses would have bolted the minute they caught a human's scent.
The next time I had come face to face with the laced 'phantom horse' was a couple days after our first encounter. I had been by myself, checking on our horses in the same far off paddock when he had broken through the trees once again, at his own leisurely pace before beginning his daily grazing. I had turned my head to check over my own horses when I heard tin cans crashing together loudly and the startled snorts and grunts that came from the stallion. I had turned my head quickly to see that he had accidentally stepped in a deer trap. i could only assume that the wrangler's left it there, but not for the purpose of catching deer, but for catching horses. I dismounted my own horse and eased my way cautiously over to him, holding my hands up so he knew I meant no harm, while the panic never fully settled in his eyes, a certain calmness took over and his struggling lessened enough to allow me to loosen the wire that had tightened around his hind leg and easily slid it off. Once he was free, I had half expected the stallion turn and bolt off almost instantaneously, but I was as shocked as ever when the stud turned and stared at me. Head tilted and ears perked up and towards me, he stretched out his head with flared nostrils as he drank in my scent. Then the large creature took a step forward and touched his velvety nose to my shoulder nudging it gently, almost as if saying thank you, before he turn and trotted off into the trees.
