why is that their favorite animal?
One day, Savanna was wandering in the woods, when she came across a hurt animal. As she got closer, the more the animal got scared. She moved even slower, and the little critter got more comfortable. She was eventually able to pick it up, and found out it's back leg was broken. She brought it to the vet and hour later her back leg was fixed, and the vet told Savanna that the animal she found was a sugar glider. The vet said they'll take care of it, but Savanna insisted she keep it. But then, the vet said "Wait, Savanna. What's her name?" "It's a girl?" "Yes." "Umm, uh, her name will be Petunia. Yes, Petunia." She went straight to the pet store, and bought all the things she thought Petunia needed. Including some toys and a cool tree-like structure, to make her feel at home while she recovers. Savanna and Petunia are inseparable friends. Like they've known each other their entire lives. Petunia lives with Savanna, and her two sugar glider babies, Peach and Juniper. And once in a while, they'll all go out into the forest, looking for hurt little critters, in need of some love, and comfort.

Always too curious, always getting into trouble. This was the life of Jane. Despite growing up where the desert was her backyard, Jane never quite learned the importance of caution. As a young kalon, she spent plenty of her time exploring the little around her that she could actually explore, but she still found ways to go on a grand adventure and get in some dangerous situation. Usually she would leave unnoticed, but eventually other kalons would realize she had gone exploring different animals' burrows or caves or other things. Luckily, those kalons were able to rescue Jane before she got into serious trouble and got injured by an angry animal or a falling stalactite or anything else too dangerous for a kit. However, Jane saw it as being taken away from her gun, her joy in life. Something about those adventures completed her in a way that she could not feel living a "normal" kalon life. Also, plenty of times, she felt right as she was close to discovering something new, she would be pulled away by the other kalons trying to protect her.

So, as young Jane grew, she only dreamed about what she was missing because she wouldn't be allowed to venture off too far. For some reason, no one thought she could handle whatever was out there. Plenty kalons tried to explain to her the dangers of deadly species in the desert, but Jane never listened. She was too fearless; she never cared about what was out there. Nothing was going to stop her from living an adventurous, exciting life.

No one quite understood her love of adventure except Jane, but they all knew her passion for discovery never went away. Even as kalons tried deterring her from her obsession of the great wide open, Jane never gave up her dream to explore and have what no one else around her wanted--true adventure. To dare to go where no other kalon would. She was never going to be one of those "office kalons" that grew up to live a life in a cubicle, in a box. She was going to live.

By the time Jane was an adult, she decided to run away and go wherever life would take her. Packing her things and tying up her hair, Jane left her old home in the middle of the night to journey through the desert and go seek out the excitement that was kept from her throughout her childhood.

Although throughout her travels Jane was mostly by herself searching for new discoveries, sometimes she bumped into some interesting kalons along her way. If they were hospitable, Jane would take the time to introduce herself and get to know the kalons she met. One particular kalon was interested in telling Jane a legend.

Jane figured the kalon would start mentioning the typical legends everyone already knew, like the boogeyman or the headless horseman or the leprechaun or yetis or unicorns, but the kalon surprised her with a legend she had never heard of before.

"You, you remind me of a tale of my youth. Your eyes and your shine, you look just like one. One of the cactus cats."

"One what?" Jane had never heard of that before.

"Beware the drunken cat that terrorizes the desert. With a coat of green it blends in with the cacti and the bushes and has the sharpest hair ever known to kalons. It will band together with its group to eat anything if it needs to, and will defend its territory with its thorns. It hides, pretending to be a cactus or sleeping in one, but will strike at night, shrieking its bird-like call. You should fear it, it's packs are dangerous and destructive. I have known many who have died from its injuries. Creepier still, it loves hunting scorpions, the most dangerous bug in the desert. If it can take on a scorpion with ease, imagine what it could do to you."

Jane wasn't very interested in legends, because she was sure they were all fake. However, Jane was suddenly interested in this creature. It was the epitome of danger, the very thing she sought out for to prove her bravery to other kalons. She didn't care if other Kalons feared the legend--it spoke to her. It felt like the very thing she needed in her life, and it sparked inspiration for a new adventure for herself. She was going to find one of those cactus cats, it would be her biggest accomplishment. To find existence of the impossible before anyone else would, because everyone else was all too afraid to look for it. It might seem like an odd animal to be around, but there were weirder things that she knew existed. There's no way anyone could believe a legend about a cactus cat if it didn't, right?

Jane set out the next day to tackle her new mission--proof that this legend was real. Proof that she could handle all the dangers that come with thrills and a life she deemed "truly living." A cactus cat could prove that Jane could live like no one else could, like no one else would. And in that moment, Jane had also found her favorite animal--the legend of the desert--and her soul, too.

Naked mole rats.
Yes, you heard that right, naked mole rats. Nallda is in love with these strange and rather
ugly critters, you could say she loves horribly adorable things.
Anyway, I guess her little obsession can be traced back to a research project she had
to do in 6th grade about an African animal.
After scrolling through pages of choices Nallda had been unable to choose the perfect
creature. None of them had the perfect spark she was looking for, and being a bit of
an obsessive perfectionist, Nallda had to find this spark. L animals, M animals, N...
What in the world was a dried up piece of meat doing in the animals section? Taking
a closer look, Nallda figured out that it was actually a living creature, and after another
moment, burst out laughing. This scrap of skin was so incredibly ugly, it was adorable.
Nallda then proceeded to waste the rest of the class work time staring at naked mole
rat pictures and trying to hold in heaves of laughter.
However, Nallada did finish her project that night, and after a lot of reading, she proclaimed
herself an expert on naked mole rats. Since then, her craze has gone down (she doesn't
feverishly look up facts anymore), but Nallda still loves these wrinkly rodents and they
will forever hold a special place in her heart. I guess

Nallada's aunt made her a stuffie of a naked mole rat for her birthday one year,
and she always carried it with her throughout middle school. It stays home
during high school, but she holds her many memories with Greg (the stuffie's name)
at all times.
