Bedtime story:
I sigh as I hold the reluctant tired long dog in my lap, his growling increasing as he huffs. The clock beside the bed reads 11:00. It's way past time for bed.
"C'mon Gale, I'll read you a bed time story at this rate," I said with a groan only to yelp in surprise when the dog actually stops growling in protest and gazes up at me. "Story..."
"Oh you've got to be-"
"Story!" He barked insistently and I hushed him sharply. "Jesus beesus okay okay! I'll tell ya a dumb story."
He wrapped around my waist, his long tail practically beating the bed in it's ferocity and I sighed wondering what I'd gotten myself into.
But sure enough I began to tell him a story.---------

'Long, long ago, in a far away land there lived a dog and a girl, in a quiet village. The girl was very poor and the dog was a nuisance to all who knew him. No one liked them and they were run out of town. The end.'---------

Gale whined sharply. "That's an awful story!" I shrugged but he barked insistently once more until at last I relented. "Fine, fine! That's not the real story."---------

'As it turned out the girl was very crafty, and often times turned regular items into beautiful pieces of art, but thought no one would like them much less buy them. The girl figured she'd be better off not trying. But the dog who annoyed most everyone knew very differently. He believed that she had magic in her fingertips, but they wouldn't work if she didn't work. If thought she was bad she'd never work.
The dog looked around the village and discovered a magical shop. The owner found him and told him that he doubted the girl had any magic. But if the dog was so sure, he should bring her works to him.
So that night while the girl slept, the dog took two pieces of her art to the magical man, who was shocked at what he saw. The pictures in her pieces moved! As if they were alive!
The dog was right! Immediately he asked the dog to bring him more pictures to show his magic friends. He then told the dog to get the girl to meet them in three nights at his shop.
The dog was ecstatic and agreed.---------

I stopped when Gale nudged my shoulder. "The girl should be more proud of her art." He told me and I shrugged.
"Artists of any kind rarely like their own art. Even magical ones." He looked confused.
"Why?" He asked as he nestled close and I sighed and rubbed his ears, earing a happy little chuff.
"Well because a lot of the time, the art never looks the way it should in your head."
"But it looks good the way it is," he countered. "And the dog is right."
I snort and gently ruffle his ears before going back to the story.---------

'He brought the magical man, more and more art, each piece moving beautifully like no other. On the third day, he told the girl what he had done.
"You fool!" She yelled in horror. "What have you done?! They'll hate every piece!"
But the dog shook his head and tugged on her dress. "No they won't they want to meet you."
The girl scoffed, tears in her eyes. "They'll want to laugh at me then!"
The dog tried to comfort her, but she turned away from him each time. Finally the dog left wondering if it was true. Did they really want to laugh at his friend? And would she ever forgive him?
The dog whined, feeling guilty for what he had done and went to the magical man to ask for the pieces back. But the magical man refused. No he could not give back these pieces. They were too beautiful. Instead he told the dog to wait till nightfall and she would arrive.
Anxious and unsure of how the magical man knew that, the dog did as he was told.
When night time fell around the village he waited until he fell asleep.---------

Gale whined loudly and I paused as he squirmed anxiously in my lap. "She got mad at him," he mumbled and I couldn't help picking up his top half and cradling him. He was such a dog.
"Well only because she doesn't believe him. But don't worry. This story has a happy ending."
He snuggled closer, tail wagging dangerously and I ruffled his ears before going back to the tale.---------

' When the dog awakened it was cold and he was freezing when a warm blanket was tossed over his back.
"Huh?" He looked up only to find the girl sitting next to him!
"You're here!" He cried and almost immediately went to lick her face, the girl laughing. "I missed you."
The girl chuckles and gently rubbed his ears.
"I had to see for myself if what you said was true." She hummed as the dog wiggled into her arms.
"I'm sorry," he whined. "I thought the magic man would see your art and love it, but now he loves it too much."
The girl hummed softly and hugged the dog.
"It's okay....you were right about the magic man. He loved the pieces so much he bought them."
Now the dog looked surprised when the girl pulled out a huge sack of gold and jewels.
"He wants me to continue my art and in return he wants to always buy a few pieces from me. He even will bring his magic friends to get the rest."
The dog was shocked and his long tail wagged harder than ever.
After that the girl and her annoying dog were never poor again. The magic man kept his promise and the two were able to buy whatever they wanted and because the dog had been so faithful to her the girl let him not only stay but she made sure he got the biggest, best bone he could ever dream of and they both lived happily ever after."---------

When I look down Gale is fast asleep, the little dope just cuddling into my arms. Sighing I chuckle and turn off the light beside the bed and yawn. It is pretty late and I have class in the morning.Art by me
