- A young child, staring into the glazing sun, the orange warmth, like the fresh scent of glazing honey. All they could view from the hill they stood from was the sea of millions of shining flowers, their pink petals dancing in the gusts of winds. She could see the gray mountains in the distant, with snow at the tips like fresh whip cream on a sundae. She could also notice her house surrounded in the middle of this, it was crafted out of wood with a fresh cedar scent, and it was fairly small with only one floor, but it was still the only home Kazuko wanted to live in.

Everyday she received this beautiful view during the evening, and everyday it was more gorgeous than the last.

But once the sun had disappeared without a trace, and the moon had risen with its night skies, Kazuko blew the gentle light out of a candle, which rested on her nightstand. Tucked under her soothing silk covers, she slowly drifted off to sleep, her parents waving her goodnight before closing the door.

And as the moon struck the middle of the night sky, lighting up everything below it in a milk-white glow, it was clear that her family had forgotten something that night. A red candle. Still burning, still glowing, in the middle of their dining table in the other room.

And the burning it caused, soon no longer was gentle or soothing.

It grew loud, a fiery crackling noise, which started to grow larger than the candle itself. It then climbed onto the wooden table, slowly burning it. As specks of ash flew into the air, one of them leeched onto the walls, causing new fire to be born. When Kazuko opened her eyes, she awakened to the sound of large fire in the other room. Wanting to go grab her parents, she opened the door of her room to be attacked by pitch-black smoke, almost as dark as the night itself. Holding her breath, she bolted to her parents room, which they were already up out of, coughing heavily.

Kazuko then ran from her house. Her parents shortly followed her, holding some items that they could grab before escaping. The last things Kazuko could remember after this were loud sirens beating into her ears, and the vicious glows of fire consuming her once beautiful house, into a heap of dark rubbish and soot.

- Months later, Kazuko found herself roaming the filthy streets, her parents could luckily afford a new small house in the city, which Kazuko appreciated but wasn’t very fond of it. She never felt at home in the city.

The house’s walls were dusty at the corners, spiderwebs with rotting dead bugs clinging to them in the cabinets, mice scurrying in the walls; a frightful noise during night, and Kazuko always would wish she could return to her million flowers, her huge hill, her giant sun, and most importantly her wooden house, which only made her head turn hot, her eyes tear up, when she realized nothing would ever change. She could never get any of this back.

One day in Kazuko's room, she found

something that her mother salvaged from the fire, that her mother must've made as a kid growing up. It was a paper fan. It was red, crafted out of paper, and on it illustrated white flowers, a house, a mountain and a sun. The fan became very special to her, reminding Kazuko of her previous home. She could even smell the cedar smell of her old place. Every night she would keep it on the table beside her bed in remembrance of her house.

The next cloudy morning, Kazuko roamed the streets with money grasped in her hands for buying tea, which her mother ordered her to do, at the local store. When walking, her feet hitting the wet gray pavement of the sidewalk, she viewed in the glass windows of a gorgeous building, a stranger, fighting with a fan. Their moves, fast, sharp, then suddenly still, and their face was red, their blood beating with the passion they had for their sport. And this, it interested Kazuko very quickly. Standing there in awe with the money, her ears flicked up watching the stranger continue. They would kick once with their leg forward, then stand, and whip out two massive fans which quickly retracted back. At one point, it even looked like they were viewing Kazuko, in which she smiled back. But the stranger remanded focused instead, and continued their routine.

Instead of getting the tea, Kazuko ran back to her house, and to her small room where she located her fan. Dropping the money and picking the fan up, she then tried some moves from the person. Feeling passion burn through her vains and her ivy eyes, she did a quick kick and lashed the fan out. And it was at the moment where she had forgotten about the horrible tragedy of her house and land burning up in flames. Kazuko had a new fire burning now, with excitement.

━━━━ ☼ ━━━━

- As she continued her practicing, now daily, over years she grew up with the love for her red fan. And now, smiling at the orange sunsets, she would no longer feel pain. She felt alive.
