Second Chance Shelter is a dog and cat rescue where you can come to find a new member of your family. We rescue and rehabilitate dogs and cats of all shapes and sizes so they may have the chance to be placed into a caring home. All of our animals are special and deserve a chance to be happy with an owner that will care for them. The question is: are you ready to love them?

After countless calls about a "chupacabra" in the area, the staff lowkey lost it and went after the alleged monster. Turns out it was just a dog; a peruvian hairless dog to be exact. It was pretty awkward, mostly because none of us knew that this breed was even present in this area. Anyhow, we took him to the shelter because he's pretty harmless and okay with humans despite the calls about people throwing things at him and screaming at him. Anyway. He loves sweaters on him, and all of us at the shelter have taken a fancy to dressing him up on the weekends or when we aren't busy. He's a sweet dog, we aren't sure where he came from but... el chupacabra ?

Name: Cupero
Gender: Male
Where did he come from?:
Cupero had been to many shelters before, until he finally arrived at SCS. All the previous shelters believed that Cupero was cursing and haunting their animals only because Cupero didn't feel comfortable so he started to talk with other dogs and animals which made them fear Cupero more. Cupero was a sly dog, and often got his way around things. Word passed through numerous shelters and Cupero was soon known as "El chupacabra" which many feared. One shelter even dumped Cupero out of plain fear but he was found again. Cupero believed he would never stop moving back and forth through numerous shelters. Only until the day he was transferred to Second Chance shelter. Cupero showed no emotion until a small finger reached into Cupero's kennel and stroked his head gently. It felt so calming and just soothed Cupero so much, relieving him. Up until the day Cupero was taken from his kennel and the same person who had reached into his cage was there. She had taken Cupero home, leaving Cupero thinking he was being transferred again. Cupero was wrong and realized that someone had actually loved him, and he was being taken care of, forever! As he heard from the tales of the dogs once adopted but abandoned later.

Where did he come from?: he hung out with the wrong group. They all had something in common, they loved rock, but when they started falling into drugs, alcoholism, Max started feeling uncomfortable. Soon enough his friends started vandalising and destroying property, knowing just when the cops would show to frame it on Max. So, people see him as a monster, like he was the one who was hurting people, things, acting like it was nothing, but i am willing to hear his side, to hear his story, and take him for who he is C:

Where did he come from?: inca, named after the breed's full name of peruvian inca orchid and the incas specifically, was brought here by a man that had been exploring, you guessed it, peru! the man found inca as a puppy and took him in, feeding him and loving him. however, he came back home, taking the pup with him, only to find his girlfriend found the hairless dog hideous. she threw the dog out, and so inca ran the streets for a while, often mistaken as "el chupacabra" and feared. the poor boy only wanted to play with the people, but they ran and threw things. he is now a bit skiddish around people, especially women, since they usually feared him more and he was kicked out by one, however, for the most part inca is sweet and loves getting dressed up in sweaters and sunglasses.

Favorite toy;; a children's bowling ball, of all things! he pushes it around the yard and tries to bite it constantly! poor mindy - he's rolled the thing over my poor keeshond's toes a few times!
Favorite activity;; chasing my dear bambino, abelie, around the house. the cat chases him right back, though...and i think he is more afraid of her than she can be of him!
