Relationship to other kalon --
Tobias lounged on the couch, watching one of his favourite TV shows as the evening wore on. When a commercial break came on, his mind began to wander. He glanced over at Reese nearly falling asleep next to him, and remembered when they first met.
It was their freshman year in brand new city, a brand new college. Toby had walked into his dorm to meet the kalon he'd be spending the semester with. He didn't know why but he felt nervous as he introduced himself to Reese and gave an awkward hello. It sounded so strange to him now, looking back on how he felt indifferent about Reese, when now he cares so much about him. They'd talk late into the night, forgetting about the clocks. Toby would laugh with Reese and hold him close. He'd wipe away his tears and order a pizza for them to share. He always made sure Reese came first, and never once hesitated to stop what he was doing and give Reese a shoulder to lean on.
Toby struggles to connect with other kalons. As much as he would love to say hello to the kalon who sits next to him in science, he finds that it never flows well, and though he tries his best to keep a conversation going it always has awkwardly long pauses and moments where he has nothing to say. It is not at all the same with Reese. With Reese, everything works like a well-oiled machine. They complete each other like puzzle pieces, and their bond is stronger than anything.
A lot of the time, Toby notices that Reese knows him better than he knows himself. He knows what game to put in the xbox, what drinks to grab from the fridge, and he always orders the perfect pizza. Most important of all, when Tobias comes home stressed over who-knows-what, Reese can always figure out what's bothering him and make him feel better about it. Tobias always tells him that he doesn't deserve everything Reese gives him, but Reese replies he shouldn't be so silly.
Tobias couldn't ask for a better roommate, and has a deep-rooted love for Reese in his heart. It would be foolish to say that roommates is all that they are, because they both always knew there was something more. And neither would change it for the world.
Extra --
Tobias slid his key into the door and pushed it open, getting a familiar whiff of the dorm. He slid his backpack from his shoulder and ran his paw through his hair, letting out a deep sigh, glad classes were finally over. "Tobias?" A voice called from another room, and Reese came out smiling.
"Buddy!" Toby threw his arms around him.
"How was class?" Reese asked, leading him to the couch after grabbing a couple sodas, opening one for Toby then popping the second for himself.
"Tiring." He laughed. "Professor Taylor gave us homework even though there's a test tomorrow. She says the homework will help us study."
Reese nodded, "Same! Mr. Ethans loves piling up assignments," eyes wandering to the doorway where Tobias had thrown down his bag. Before he could say anything, Toby knew what was on his mind. "Sorry," he said, getting up. He grabbed his bag and carried it to his room, where he tossed it onto the bed. "I forgot," he shrugged. Reese gave him a smile, trying not to look at the mess in his room.
"Oh! I forgot to tell you!" Reese jumped up, eyes sparkling. Tobias watched him with excitement, "Huh?"
Reese bounded over to his bedroom where he brought out a DVD, showing it to Tobias. "I found that movie you wanted to see!"
Tobias lit up. "No way!" He threw his arms around Reese and gave him a squeeze. "You're the best!"
"I know," Reese grinned. He turned on the TV while Tobias popped some popcorn in the microwave. Burning his fingers, Toby opened the bag and pulled the coffee table closer to the couch. Reese grabbed a comfy wool blanket in case it got cold, and they fell back into the couch. Soon the realized the blanket would not be needed, as they snuggled up close and felt each others' heat. Reese lay on Tobias's lap, and Toby put his arm around him. An anthem announced the beginning of the movie, and they watched on into the night. Tobias remembered his test, but this moment was too perfect. This moment with Reese was more valuable than a test could ever be, and he didn't regret a second of it. He saw Reese's eyes flutter, sleep nearly overwhelming them. Toby smiled softly, cherishing it. Nothing in the world mattered more than right here, right now. With Reese.
