The night was ghost-quiet and ached with a deep, bitter cold. The wind sang its despondent melody, streaking over the plains and around the nearby mountains, endlessly blowing. The trees' bare branches shivered and trembled at the sound, whispering amongst themselves of the distant coming of spring.

The sky? A massive expanse of diamond-flecked plain, the starts a gritty spray of sparkles against the pitch night.
To most creatures, it was just that. The stars held no meaning but a faint glimmer of hope, casting a wash of silver light over the world in strangely cold affection. But to Artemis, it was so much more than that. The heavens held stories, an array of scintillating figures that, when read correctly, would lead you wherever you chose. These celestial beings felt alive to her, helping her navigate the herd, helping her steer her own life.

On this very night, she looked up into the vault of sky stretched above and before her and smiled at the star's kiss.
It was hopelessly frigid out, but in that moment, Artemis' heart felt warm. She tore her gaze from the heavens and fixed her soft blue eyes upon her sleeping herdmates, smiling brightly. If only they could see the stars the way she did.
