The Pirate

Sapphire Montgomery (goes by "Saph")

Male
"Ruby" - Twenty One Pilots
When Sapphire first opened his eyes to the wild, dancing lights of life, he was awestruck- the outstretched world was his trail to venture down, and venture it he would. And at first, Sapphire's parents encouraged his dreams, nudging him forward when his paws wouldn't move and lifting his chin when all he could see was the ground. But all of that changed when
she came.
Her name was Ruby, and she was meant to be his gift- "a sister to play with," according to his parents. But she did not enter the world in the same way as him. Upon first opening her eyes, she hissed at the light which seemed to scorch her very soul. Her cries could be heard throughout their once peaceful home for days. Sapphire's parents began directing all of their time and energy to Ruby. "She needs our love a little more than you," they would say. "One day you'll understand."
But Sapphire did not understand. He wasn't able to figure out what was so special about Ruby. She was loud, messy, and
strange. And she was hardly a good playmate. Her movements were slow and wobbly, even past her toddler years. And just when Sapphire was beginning to have a fun time playing with Ruby, she would begin to cry or doze off, completely ruining the fun. As time went by, Sapphire's parents began to grow impatient with him. "She can't play like you- go play with your toys, instead."
Eventually, as time went on, Sapphire began to lose interest in his younger sister. He was given the job of watching over her. She needed help with even the simplest tasks, and though Sapphire loved her, he couldn't understand why he couldn't explore and play the way he used to. The light and adventure that once fueled his heart was beginning to fade, and it made him
bitter. One night, when Ruby had finally settled down for the night, Sapphire saw his chance to escape his burdened life. He packed his belongings and tiptoed to Ruby's room. "You were meant to be my gift," he whispered. Placing a gentle kiss on her forehead, Sapphire said his goodbyes to his little sister before sneaking out into the darkness. Turning once more to look back at his home, Sapphire felt a tiny tear in his heart begin to form. "Tell our parents I'm sorry, Ruby."
