Lydia crept through the undergrowth, ears pricked and listening for the noise. There it was- a high pitched wailing sound. She sniffed the air again, pinpointed the direction it was coming from and set off at a quick trot. A couple minutes later, Lydia came to a small clearing. A small ferret was stuck in a fox trap, struggling depseratley and letting out heatbreaking wails. Springing to action, Lydia pried the trap apart with her claws, gritting her teeth at the effort. The jaws of the trap creaked open, and the ferret whimpered and pulled his paw out, licking it furiously.
"Are you okay?" Lydia asked him, eyeing the fox trap in disgust. "I am now, I suppose," he answered, looking embarrased. "Um- thanks for helping me," he mumbled, and Lydia could tell from his tone that he wasn't one who offered thanks regularly. "No problem." The ferret glanced around and tried to walk a couple paces, but whimpered and collapsed when he put weight on his injured paw. "Ah, you're definetely okay then," Lydia snorted sarcastically.
"Im- fine!" the ferret insisted, trying to drag himself foward but failing miserably. "Nope, you're not." Lydia marched over to the creature and grabbed his scuff gently, mumbling through his fur: "I'm taking you home and cleaning you up."
He thrashed around in her grasp. "Let-me-go!" he spluttered, "I'm fine!"
Lydia rolled her eyes. "Hush up, I'm trying to help you."
Lydia's home wasn't far, and the two reached it quickly. Stepping inside the cozy den, Lydia set the ferret down and gave him a pointed look. "You'd better get used to my company, your leg is hurt badly and it's going to need a while to heal." The ferret groaned, but looked relieved.
"My name's Lydia, by the way."
"Oh..I'm Spice."

(SO SO SORRY this is a couple minutes late! I saw that you closed it for judging and I freaked out because I had it almost done but I've been on a short weekend trip and I couldn't finish- I hope this isn't too late to count! If it is, I understand :3 )

how they met each other ] It was Christmas time and Caramel was midway through a snowball fight. She wasn’t the best at throwing clumps of snow, as it was cold and she tended to drop the snowball before she had the chance to throw it. However, she was so excellent at dodging snowballs that she had become a main rival in the fight. By the time it was dark there were only 10 or so kalons left, 1 full team of 4 remained, the rest were either alone or in pairs. Caramel was in the middle of everything, skilfully dodging the snow that was hurled at her. One kalon threw a snowball a bit too far and it hit a tree.
What looked a bit like a muddy tennis fell to the ground with a bone snapping thud. The other kalons ignored it and continued with the snowball fight. Caramel stood in the snow, gazing at the tree. Thwop! - She was hit by a snowball. Now out of the fight, Caramel began to slowly walk to the tree. She peered down at the ground. There was what looked like a squirrel lying in a ball on the ground. Caramel picked it up between her paws. To her relief it was breathing, but it was clearly badly injured.
Caramel rushed home, still holding the injured animal. The first thing she did was lay it in a big box with some leaves and twigs in. The second she did this she was on her computer, searching up what it was. She quickly found out it was a sugar glider and decided to name it Bean. Caramel took Bean to the nearest vets, where they managed to nurse Bean back to health with the help of Caramel.
Caramel decided to keep Bean and still has him today.

how they met each other;; At a science convention, robotics clubs displayed all their artificially intelligent creations. Eric, curious, decided to turn one on. It was an adorable robo-hedgehog! Eric observed what occurred as he activated the AI. A cute face blinked it's electric eyes and appeared to look at him. Eric, impressed by the cuteness of this robot, petted it's head to play with it. He thought that perhaps there would be a sensor. The robo-hedgehog seemed to enjoy being petted, as it displayed a smile. Eric walked away, done playing with the cute pet-like robot, to the next exhibit. However, it loved him like a little puppy, and decided it would follow him to the ends of the earth.

It was a spring night when he first saw her. The cold was still clinging onto the people of the city but the warm promised blooming flowers. His neighbors had complained of ransacked garbage cans, left knocked over and with everything inedible discarded in scraps that were difficult to clean up. They would say it offhandedly, with a wave of the hand and roll of the eyes that left Dimitri nodding his sympathies. Later that night, the clanging of metal garbage cans roused him from his sleep. He ventured out with a flashlight, still clad in pajama pants and house shoes. He spotted the raccoons mother to begin with, digging through trash and tearing the inedible in search of food scraps. She noticed him quickly, snatched her baby by the scruff, and vanished into the night.
The next night, a colder night with what Dimitri thought had to be record breaking temperatures for this time of the year in the city, he was awoken by the same clanging. This night, knowing what to expect, he didn't go outside but peeked through his window to see the mom and baby digging through his garbage cans again.
The third night he saw them, something was different. After waiting all night he decided to look and he didn't see them at all. Only the baby was there tonight, it was cold much like the night before, and the baby wasn't moving. The soft hearted Dimitri couldn't stand to just let the baby die, so with a robe wrapped tightly around his body he crept outside and around back to where the fluffy raccoon was. He picked it up after searching for the mom, cuddling it inside his robe to shield it from the cold. Dimitri took the baby inside.
