Kinley woke up one morning, bright and early. She yawned and stretched and slowly realized; today was the first day of kindergarten! Kinley was going to be late if she didn't hurry; she quickly struggled to put on her very baggy sweater and brushed her teeth. She ran into her room, swooped on her little lion backpack and ran into the car. "I'm here!" she shouted. They drove off and soon, Kinley was at her first day of school. She gulped and stepped into line, right behind a pink... corgi and... was that bat? She smiled. Tapping the strange animal on the shoulder, Kinley blushed. She was generally shy. Tori turned around and introduced herself. "Hi! I'm Tori, and who are you?" Tori was much taller than Kinley. The small wolf looked up and shyly grinned. "I-I'm Kinley..." she stated softly. She blushed and Tori smiled. She turned back around and as the teacher came out, they filed in slowly, all very shy. The small class took their seats. Their teacher showed them around and taught them that their name tags were saying their name, claiming their desk. After they understood, they looked to see who was sitting at their tables; Kinley was right next to Tori! Immediately, Kinley pulled her ears back and blushed. "So... Uh... Do you live nearby?" asked Tori, trying to start conversation. Kinley looked up and shuffled her feet. She perked up her ears and smiled. "Actually, I do! Did you drive down the left side of the street to get here? That's where I live! Right next to here!" Kinley explained cheerfully. The two conversed until the teacher yelled above the noise, "Class, please settle down! I have a small assignment." Everyone looked up at her obediently. "We are going to first learn about each other! Everyone, sit in a circle." The small class did so and they all told everyone their favorite food, color and their name. When it was Kinley's turn, she started blushing and then she softly said, "I-I'm Kinley and I-um... I like chicken nuggets and... uh... red... I guess." They continued to go in a circle and they all took their seats.
In exactly three months after they left school, they were in first grade... and Tori was in her class. She had been teased for being too shy last year. This year, she just always was with Tori no matter what because she was nervous to speak to anyone besides her and the teacher. On the first day, Kinley was sitting across the room from Tori. She almost cried. She got up and wandered up to the teacher. "May I please be moved over next to Tori?" Kinley asked, shuffling her hands. The teacher asked, "Why?" Kinley was astonished. How could this happen? She started crying. "I'm afraid of everyone else, ma'am." The teacher rolled her eyes. "Whatever, I'm not moving you. You need to make new friends," she scoffed. Kinley furrowed her brows and stomped back to her desk. She lied her head on her desk. She crumpled her hands into fists and her face turned res as she held her breath and pinned her ears back. She was mad. Around snacktime, she brightened up. She looked up as the teacher brought around the snacks to everyone - except her. She got upset again and got up from her chair, storming out of the classroom, out the first grade doors and outside. She ran to the playground and hid under one of the slides to hide out under the shade and calm down. Tori raised her hand, grabbing her snack with the other. "May I be excused please?" The teacher nodded and allowed her to exit the classroom. Tori pretended to go to the restroom but then ran the opposite way out into the morning breeze. She searched for Kinley wearily. She spotted her and ran quickly to comfort her. Kinley saw her and bunched up for hugs. Tori held her tightly. "Don't worry, I brought you some pretzels and marshmallows," the corgi said. She held out her palm while the small wolf gently picked up the bits and pieces of food. "Thank you, Tori," she said.
Many months later, second grade came, and the same thing happened all the way up to fifth grade.
In fifth grade, her previous teachers had gone to her fifth grade teacher, Mrs. Dillian. They told her to make sure that Kinley sat right next to Tori and Tori only. The fifth grade teacher was her first decent teacher since kindergarten. On the first day, she wandered into the classroom last, Tori being first. Kinley was shy and had her ears pinned back. She didn't want to be noticed; the wolf wanted to be left alone this year. She took her seat after getting her binder out and her books. She almost forgot her pencil box, which she then ran to get after setting down her other stuff. After that, she dropped her lunch off into the bucket and sat down in her desk. Tori was up with the teacher speaking about something. Kinley didn't bother to look who sat next to her; she just decided to ignore it. Tori walked her way, grabbed her things and took a seat right next to Kinley. The small blue wolf grinned and hugged her. Mrs. Dillian got up and told the class what their first assignment was. It was to tell your neighbor about your summer! Tori and Kinley just laughed; they had gone to California for the whole summer! That day was a great day.
They were great friends and Kinley had developed a slight crush on Tori as they became Sophomores. Then, Tori began to like her. It was truly lovely; the whole year, Kinley was nervous, but Tori was extra lovey. They eventually grew closer and closer until they realized the liked each other. Even then, they didn't say anything until prom. On prom night, Kinley went up to Tori with flowers and grinned. "Will you go to prom with me?" Tori turned around and broke Kinley's heart, but then she literally screamed yes and it echoed through the halls. They were both very happy.
