What better way to know someone than to listen to their favorite story? For Nixa, it’s the Nordic creation myth, especially the part about how the world was made through this giant's body. The giant was Ymer, and he was so evil that Odin and his brothers, Vili and Ve, killed him. The brothers dragged his body to the middle of the world, where his blood made the ocean; flesh made the hills and valleys; bones made mountain crags; teeth and toes into rocks and pebbles; hair into trees and bushes; his mighty skull lifted to make the sky; and his brains became the clouds. She loved the myth, since whenever she told her friends, they started looking at the sky and trees weird. Of course, it basically meant they were in a world made from a giant’s body, but that’s why she loved the story. It was a new way to look at her surroundings, and it was such an interesting way to think about the creation of the world, unlike all that ‘Earth as a cooling ball of fire asteroids lava water bacteria science’ stuff. And was it such a crime to love strange stories?

My name is Stephanie, and I write 10 cent typewriter stories. It works like this: I’ll sit at the farmer’s market, or at the arts festival, and when a fellow comes up to me, and asks me about my setup what all this is. I'll tell him if he gives me a prompt, a first line, a character in an unusual situation, or anything like that, I’ll write him a story. Only for 10 cents. It isn't much, but it helps me earn some money. I've had many prompts, but never one such as one a woman had given me one day. A woman struck up a conversation with me. She wanted a story about her son. She had lost her husband a few years prior, her son her only living family left. It turns out her son had been in the military and had been sent overseas, only to return to her greatly injured and told that he would never be the same again. I gave her a story about her family being there with her again, whole and happy and okay. I had to have made her happy, because she's my only return customer at every Saturday's market.

On an early morning in Autumn, when the leaves were just beginning
to fall and the dew clung to blades of grass, a young, rosy cheeked kalon
walked through a trail in the forest. Her whistling rose up through the damp
air, her heavy green rain boots not halting her feet from sliding and bouncing
to her made up rhythm. The winding beaten path led to a fence, which Waverly
promptly flung herself over. Her boots clunked onto the asphalt of the backroad,

Lysette clutch the quilt tightly. She had to be brave today, no matter what happened.
She was stood beside her stall, the table stacked high with quilts and blankets. Lysette had been watching the woman at the apple stall shiver in the clod air for weeks now. She wondered how the older Kalon could manage to come unprepared each time.
When the crowd finally thinned, she padded quickly over to the apple stall. The older Kalon gave her a warm look and stood up, and Lysette noticed that she was still shivering.
"Was there something you wanted, dear?"
"I, uh, I just wanted to give you this...!"
Lysette shoved the quilt into the old Kalon's hands and ran back to her stall. That had been so embarrassing! Lysette hid herself behind the stacks of quilts, It wasn't long before she heard footsteps. Looking up, Lysette saw that it was the old Kalon. She was holding a fresh apple pie in her hands, and placed it gently down on Lysette's table.
"You ran so fast, I couldn't even give you this in return!"
The older Kalon gave her a warm smile, and Lysette relaxed. There was no need to be nervous.

Once there was a kalon who was obsessed with making dream catchers. She found them to be beautiful and their purpose important. She made them so often the strings would get caught in her fur. Strangely these strings made her feel invincible to danger. So she kept them there. As long as she was covered in strings she would be safe from any nightmare. She began weaving more till her walls were covered in all sorts of dream catchers. When she heard others were having a bad day she would offer them a dream catcher and wink at them.
"With this dreamcatcher your dreams will never be bad ones.
When you feel bad remember you are always perfectly safe and fine."

Florohora has always had a strange obsession with lace and string. She loves to create fabrics by hand, slowly sewing the threads into fancy clothing. Once she decided to try sewing by machine, as its quicker. She had already made a nice pastel colored fabric and was sowing it together to make a fancy dress for her friend. Florohora did some practice on some scrap fabric beforehand, as she's used to doing everything by hand and didn't want to ruin the fabric she's worked so hard on. She had managed to get halfway through sewing when her paw slipped and she got her fur stuck. Shortly after some struggling, Florohora managed to free herself. She hasn't touched a sewing machine since.

Seona says, watching the road ahead as she speaks to her friend in the passenger seat. The roommates, just out of college, had decided that having had no time to do anything wild during their college years they had better do it now. Unfortunately, they hadn't planned much of their trip out and didn't really know where they were going.

In the middle of Kansas there's not very much to see. So most of their entertainment at the moment was stopping to see what they could find in small towns before getting back on the road. They'd talk awhile about what they found, but even that could be exhausted. Now they were just trying to say the most ridiculous things they could think of.

Seona glanced over to her friend in the passenger seat, taking in her thoughtful facial expression with amusement. Brows furrowed and mouth pulled to the left it was quite a sight. Seona could practically see her friend running through each adjective just to check and make sure that, indeed, all adjectives were comparisons.

A noise of frustration exploded from Seona's friend, "Here's the thing though, you're right."

The young Kalon stared in awe as the flowers sprung up around her. It was only the beginning of her rule as this spring's Gardener. Tasked with the care of the royal garden, she was sure to make every bit of this moment last. Sakura was her name. A Japanese name that fit perfectly for her rule. She bent over the flowers, singing for them and watering them only at the precise times. The garden flourished under her care. The citizens were so pleased they gifted her a silver chain to wear wherever she pleased. Even after her time as the garden cake taker, they still call her the Flower Princess.
