Why are they sad? ;; Marwin is sad because he knows October 25th is coming soon. His birthday. He should be 'turning' 18, but it isn't a good day for him. Marwin was born on October 25th, 1837. You must be wondering, why isn't he dead yet? Well, in a way, he is. On his 17th birthday, he was celebrating with his family and friends like any normal teenager at his house. That was the last time he stayed at his home, and the last 'home' he ever had. His girlfriend, Maya, was lighting Marwin's candles for him while another friend turned on colored strobe lights. Maya had always been susceptible to seizures, and as soon as the lights began flashing she fell, dropping the lighter and setting the tablecloth ablaze. Marwin ran to help her up, but so did his friend with the strobe light. The strobe light fell and shattered, only adding to the chaos. The tablecloth soon set the drapes and carpet ablaze, and cut Marwin and his friend off from Maya and his parents. He doesn't know what happened to her, or his family, after that. He assumes they were killed, and knows that by now even if they survived they couldn't have lived as long as he did. Marwin's friend ran, saving himself but leaving Marwin behind, believing Marwin to have been following him. However, Marwin continued to try and reach Maya, only to be beat back by the flames. Eventually, the flames consumed him. Marwin was unable to find Maya, but survived the severe burning, although he was close to death. Soon, it began to rain, stinging his burns. Lightning hit the frame of his burned out house, sending the bolts through his body. Chemicals from the lead paint and asbestos in his home mixed with the singed air, and changed something inside of Marwin. His friend eventually brought a surgeon, who managed to save much of Marwin's original fur. The patches that weren't salvageable had to be replaced using fur from a donor, which gives him his zombie-like appearance. Afterwards, life went on, but the loss of his family and girlfriend scarred him more than he let on. Marwin never stayed in the same place for too long, at first staying with his friend before starting to wander. Years went by, and Marwin noticed that he never changed, even when those around him did. When the year became 1900, it was apparent that the accident had done much more damage to Marwin's body than just burns. He could no longer age. So, yes, Marwin is upset because he is 'celebrating' his 18th birthday for the 162nd time.
Favorite story ;; The poem The Charge of the Light Brigade may not be a literal 'story,' but it does tell a story. It tells the story of a battle between the Russians and the British. Marwin feels like he is one of the soldiers in the poem, charging into something he doesn't understand (the indecent on his 17th birthday), and being changed forever by it. Some soldiers didn't survive (just like some things that defined him didn't stick, like his friends, Maya, or family), and others did, ultimately changing the makeup and description of the 600 (and himself). It was no longer 600. The poem also really hits home because the battle described takes place on October 25th, 1854, the day that ruined his life. His family had received word that the Russians had won just hours before the fateful birthday party began.
Winner! This form literally gave me shivers woAH, I really loved all the hard work put into the story and heck Marwin needs a hUG. SOMEONE HUG THIS BEAR.
