Greetings, and welcome to the first public roundup of Aleutian Island Seal ponies! This rare semi-feral breed was discovered on the islands in 1786 when the Russians arrived. Over time, the horses were brought to mainland Alaska and spread to the northern areas of Canada. While there are a few truly wild herds existing on the islands and wandering about in the Yukon, most of the documented AISPs exist in reserves run by people who are working to preserve and grow the breed. While this was formerly restricted to a few select preserves and the residents of the Aleutian islands, the population has grown enough for these equines to be rounded up from the various reserves across Alaska and Canada. These AISPs will be rehomed to new reserves than can help grow the breed further. The animals being rehomed will vary in age, disposition, and trust towards humans. We will do our best to match your reserve to an equine that can thrive there.

Be sure to fill out an application form so we can match your reserve to a pony!

Reserve Name:
Artillery Stables
Reserve Location:
A private island owned by the manager and owner of the stables. There are several different climates on the island thanks to it geologically diverse regions. The mountains are the coldest places. The highest recorded temperature was 68 degrees. The coldest has been -12 in remote areas. There are different locations on the island that are used for cold weather horses. The high pass and low pass are just two of them. The high pass is used for the summer and the low pass in winter.
Reserve Manager:
Dessabella Romaine Thalia
Reserve Specialty:
Artillery Stables is known to house retired military horses. They are well known for their various breeding programs for each of the breeds that inhabit the stables. Each program is named by a flower that is found on the island. They do rehabilitation, physical therapy, standard and advanced medical procedures, standard and special training, as well as taming. They have been known to deal with some of the most difficult cases and are always wanting a big challenge. AS also has a program for college students where they can make prosthetic limbs for amputee horses, assist doctors, assist trainers, or even observe what the island does. They keep a 3:1 ration of horses to handlers and usually have two or three extra for emergencies. The manager herself is a veterinarian doctor and has a Ph.D. When you live in an island that is far from any mainland, it always pays to have some top quality staff. They do their programs in stages. The first stage will be standard medical procedures and allowing the horse to get to know the island home. Training and taming will be used here. Second stage is interactions. The stables will allow the horse to interact with other handlers and horses to choose who to pair the horse with. More training and taming is done here. The third stage will be a bit harder for the horse since the training is made to be difficult for him. This will force the horse to learn critically. This is to ensure to teach the horse how to respond calmly to any situation thrown at them. Generally AS will saddle tame a horse and make sure it's deemed rideable before they train for a sled or cart.

I hope this works. Let me know if I need to change anything. I would love to be able to work with a big challenge ^^

Reserve Name: Selur Dalurinn Reserve (xx) (this is still a massive work in progress whislt i figure things out)
Reserve Location: British Columbia, Canada. The reserve consists mostly of tundra and subarctic territories. SDR spans roughly three square miles, or 1920 acres, in which the various herds are left to roam freely with scheduled check-ins
    Reserve Manager: Stella Beaumont
Reserve speciality: Jack of all trades; SDR has dealt with youngsters and old fellows alike, however work mostly in training and behavioral issues, as well as treating injured or ill horses. It is very much a rehablitation center, however when given the chance, SDR prefers to work with either older horses or youngsters, seeing as they pose a bigger challenge; something to really work on. The staff on hand is always willing to try something new, and put the welfare of their charges at top priority at all times.

Reserve Name: The Bold & Noble AISP
Reserve Location: 75 miles northeast of Skagway, Alaska.
Reserve Manager: Kaylana Swineik
Reserve speciality: Jack-of-all-trades, but Kaylana is well equipped to take on the elderly Seal Ponies who need a place to become a sort of pasture ornament, working to gentle them in order to give them a safer environment but otherwise live out their lives peacefully and without strain. She also has a good training regime that works for her with younger horses, and is able to start yearlings and two year olds.
