Greetings, and welcome to the first public roundup of Aleutian Island Seal ponies! This rare semi-feral breed was discovered on the islands in 1786 when the Russians arrived. Over time, the horses were brought to mainland Alaska and spread to the northern areas of Canada. While there are a few truly wild herds existing on the islands and wandering about in the Yukon, most of the documented AISPs exist in reserves run by people who are working to preserve and grow the breed. While this was formerly restricted to a few select preserves and the residents of the Aleutian islands, the population has grown enough for these equines to be rounded up from the various reserves across Alaska and Canada. These AISPs will be rehomed to new reserves than can help grow the breed further. The animals being rehomed will vary in age, disposition, and trust towards humans. We will do our best to match your reserve to an equine that can thrive there.
Be sure to fill out an application form so we can match your reserve to a pony!
