Disposition wrote:This younger mare seems quite content to spend time with humans and doesn't mind them unless they are messing with her legs. Her front right leg has some stiffness in the joints which we've noticed holds her back from anything to active. We haven't confirmed the cause yet and further tests are needed before she can be released to do any hard or strenuous ground work. She will gladly accept back rubs and doesn't get to skittish when we bring out grooming tools. Her only issue is a slight aggression towards sharing food and she needs to be fed alone to avoid conflict with others.

RETRIEVING LUPINE
━ ━ ━ ━ ━ ━ ━ ━ ━ ━ ━ ━ ━
The dirt road provided an easy drive from the Oak Hill Reserve to the barn that bred and raised Aleutian Island Seal Ponies. With an elbow propped up on the edge of the window, the refreshing breeze that snaked into the old truck every now and then provided the sandy-haired brunette with a satisfying chill. Percy was accustomed to the rather frigid air the Yukon territory bestowed upon the land it claimed. She was surprised that she was able to remain still throughout the drive, what with the fact that she was just about to pick up her very first Aleutian Island Seal Pony. The day before, the mare was all she could talk about, and now, as she pulled through the entryway to the barn, her calm aura more than surprised her.
Percy climbed out of the truck, closing the door behind her and rubbing her slightly chilled hands together before heading towards the barn. Her boots crunched on the hardened mud underfoot and her breath came out in clouds before her. Most Canadians were lucky enough to live somewhere where the temperature actually warmed up quite a bit, but in Yukon while it got warm it didn't get as warm as the southern part of Canada did. Percy's bright green eyes met those of a young man who stood by the side of the barn, holding a door open for her, ushering her inside with a gentle smile. "Thank you" the brunette nodded, returning a warm smile of her own as she slipped inside the warm barn, the young man following behind her. The soft thud of the door shutting behind her echoed throughout the barn but was slightly muffled by the rustling of hay and busy feet. Lifting her gaze, Percy watched as stablehands and boarders busied themselves with tossing hay into stalls, tacking up ponies, and hauling tack from ponies to the tack room. Subconsciously, a light smile had risen to her face and she could only assume the young man had noticed it by the knowing smile he offered her. "Name's Pan, I'm the owner's son" he held out a large hand and offered it to her in greeting. She took his hand and shook it, giving him a gentle smile in return. "Nice to meet you. I'm Percy" she introduced herself and followed Pan as he led her through the barn.
The multiple stocky ponies they passed caught Percy's eye. Their confirmation and build was just incredible and she loved how toned and well-muscled they looked. This only served to increase the woman's excitement to take her own mare home with her shortly. As Percy followed Pan further into the barn, coming to a stop in front of a spacious stall with a leather halter hung on a hook on the door. "Well, here's your girl" Pan announced, resting a hand on the top of the stall door, effectively alerting the mare of their presence. Percy's eyes lit up when the mare turned her head from her pile of hay, lifted it with perked ears and a mouth full of hay, and took a few steps until she stood near them by the door. "Hey beautiful" Percy's gentle voice greeted Lupine, and she meant every word. Lupine was, without a doubt, a stunning mare. She was a soft smoky black color with unique snowcap appaloosa markings, not to mention the white snow-like marking on her face that appeared to be something close to a bald face.
"Since all the paperwork has been finished, the only thing that has to be done now, is to load her into your trailer and send you two on your way" Pan smiled, patting Lupine's neck before handing her halter to Percy. "I'll go open the trailer and you can just bring her out" he suggested before offering her another smile, heading out of the barn soon after. Turning to face Lupine again she held back a chuckle as she watched the mare still busy chewing on her hay. She kept in mind not to disturb her too much when she was eating because it was said that she could get quite aggressive when that happened. Once the mare's jaw stopped working to chew the hay, Percy fixed the leather halter onto her easily and opened up the stall door. The mare was on the larger size for her breed but didn't make Percy feel like a dwarf standing next to her. "Let's get you home now girl" she soothed the mare, reaching up to rub her ear as she led her out of the barn. After loading her into the trailer and bidding Pan a goodbye, Percy started the truck and pulled out of the driveway of the barn, hitting the road that would take them home.

ONSITE VET CHECK
━ ━ ━ ━ ━ ━ ━ ━ ━ ━ ━ ━ ━
Two days had passed since Lupine had arrived at Oak Hill Reserve and she seemed to be settling in quite well. Her favourite place on the reserve was the large paddock near the back of the property that bordered the tree line to the large expanse of forest. Percy often hung around the paddock whenever the mare was turned out just to simply watch her. It appeared that Lupine was awed by the forest and whatever animals ventured out to take a peek at the ponies. That morning, however, it was almost as if the snowcap appaloosa could sense something was going to happen. When Percy had reached her stall, the mare was standing in the far back corner, head turned away and ears angled back, signalling her displeasure at what was to come. The brunette wasn't stupid or slow and knew exactly why she was acting like this. "So you know about the vet do you?" she sighed, crossing her arms on the top of the stall door, laying her chin in the middle. "I promise you, nothing is gonna hurt you girl. That's the last thing I would want" she attempted to assure the mare. Shortly after, a familiar 'hello' rung out through the barn and Lupine let out a loud snort. "Easy girl. I promise you it'll be alright" Percy soothed once again before turning her head towards the approaching vet. "Morning Percy" the blonde hair woman greeted her warmly. "Morning Sam" Percy returned Sam's smile with grace and shifted her eyes back to Lupine. "She's a little nervous so you might just have to give me some time to get her calmed down and hopefully on the crossties" she explained to Sam who nodded in understanding.
Percy entered the mare's stall, one of her hands reaching into the back pocket of her jeans to pull out a small oatmeal cookie. She had found out during their first meeting that Lupine absolutely adored oatmeal cookies so she had hoped that the treat would put her at ease during the vet visit. Almost instantly the pony's head shot up, ears perked forward in Percy's direction and her nostrils flared as she breathed in the tasty scent of the cookie. "There ya go girl. See, there's nothing bad about the vet coming to see you" the brunette assured the mare as she held out her flat palm, presenting the cookie to the mare who instantly gobbled it up, lipping her hand greedily. Lupine seemed to have calmed considerably thanks to the small cookie, Percy would have to remember that for any future squabbles she might have with the strong mare.
It only took a couple of slow minutes to coax Lupine out of her stall and get her clipped onto the crossties. Percy stood at her head while Sam introduced herself to the mare, gently allowing her to sniff each instrument before she rubbed it along her body to prove that it wouldn't hurt her. Sam was able to administer all the necessary vaccinations but when she began feeling Lupine's legs the mare threw her head up, ears pinned back flat against her cranium and kicked out with one of her back legs. "Woah! Easy Lupine! Easy girl!" Percy held onto the mare's halter, speaking softly and gently to the mare in an attempt to calm her. When that seemed to have little affect she pulled out another cookie and the mare's attention was brought directly to it. Any hostile behaviour ceased as she munched away on the cookie. Percy let out a sigh and laughed, shaking her head as she looked over at Sam. "Well, everything seems to be just fine with her. Maybe just avoid any excessive touching to her legs" she chuckled and gathered her stuff. Percy put Lupine back into her stall and saw Sam out, thanking her yet again for her services.

INTRODUCING HER TO THE NEW AREA
━ ━ ━ ━ ━ ━ ━ ━ ━ ━ ━ ━ ━ ━ ━ ━ ━ ━ ━ ━ ━ ━
Percy had let the smoky black snowcap appaloosa eat her breakfast in her stall while the brunette busied herself with tending to the cleanliness of the barn. Mucking out stalls, laying fresh beds of hay down, and changing the water in water buckets were all done by the time Lupine had finished her breakfast. Today the mare was going to get the opportunity to see what Oak Hill had in store for her. The facilities, paddocks, and even some of the trails that edged through part of the forest. Percy waited outside of the stall as the mare finished off the last of her feed, and this was because Lupine got quite aggressive around her food and couldn't be fed around any other horses or humans really. "How was your breakfast Lu?" the brunette asked as she slid the halter over the mare's head, fastening the buckle before clipping the lead rope to the bottom rung. Percy led the mare out of the stall, walking with Lupine at her side down the aisle of the barn until she slid open the large barn door and stepped outside. "So, the tour starts here" she spoke as they stopped near the pastures. She knew, without a doubt, that the pastures and paddocks were Lupine's favourite spots. She led the mare down alongside of the barn, passing the outdoor wash stations and troughs, and then stopping near the indoor arena. She was told that Lupine was rideable and was used to a saddle and tack in general and Pan had assured her that she was a dream to ride, although only having being ridden once or twice.
"We'll get to the riding someday girl, when you're ready" Percy spoke as she led the mare towards one of the large pastures. She paused there for a moment and let Lupine observe the property and lush fenced off pastures and paddocks before continuing on. Next she maneuvered her way towards the gate that led out to the trails and swung the wooden gate open so that Lupine and herself could walk through. After closing it behind her, she glanced at the mare and chuckled at the sight of her head shot straight up, ears perked forwards in attention and curiosity and the slight dance in her step that displayed her excitement. "Well, now I know you are definitely a pony that enjoys the outdoors" Percy chuckled as she stroked the mare's neck. About an hour and a half passed and once they were done walking the trails, Percy headed back towards the barn, slipping through the gate and made her way towards the barn. She could tell that the mare enjoyed their little outing, it appeared to have set her at ease a little. They entered the barn and Percy put her away in her stall, relieving her of the halter and gave her an oatmeal cookie as a treat before kissing the mare's forehead and bidding her a goodbye.

LUPINE'S RELEASE
━ ━ ━ ━ ━ ━ ━ ━ ━ ━ ━ ━ ━ ━ ━ ━ ━ ━ ━ ━ ━ ━
With yesterday's activities on the brunette's mind, Percy finished eating the pancakes she had made for her breakfast, downed a glass of apple juice, and pulled on her boots before swinging the porch door open and stepping out into the cool morning air. The fallen leaves crunched beneath her boots as she strode down the pathway towards the barn. The temperature was dropping and so were the leaves, and soon winter would be upon them. Percy wanted to give Lupine as much time outside as she could before the grass was covered in thick sheets of snow, although she doubted that the spunky mare wouldn't absolutely love the snow when it came. Like the days before, she slid the barn door open and shut it behind her, maneuvering down the barn aisle before standing still out front of Lupine's stall. She arrived just in time to watch the mare swallow her last mouthful of feed before the pony swung her head out over the stall door, stretching her muzzle out with flared nostrils to inhale Percy's scent. "How's my beautiful girl doing?" Percy greeted her, stroking her velvety muzzle before scratching the underside of her jaw. A soft snort left the pony's nostrils in response and brought a light smile to the brunettes face. "Today you're getting to spend the whole day out in the paddock" she informed Lupine who's head shot up at the woman's words, ears perked forward in high alert and attention. Percy couldn't help but laugh at this and gave the mare's firm neck a pat. "Yes, yes, I know. You love paddocks just about as much as cat's love catnip" she spoke as she fastened the halter onto Lupine's head, clipping the lead onto it as well before opening the stall door.
The mare practically danced out of her stall, her body alive with anticipation and excitement, head still held high and eyes swimming with newfound energy. "Easy girl, easy. We'll get out there soon enough" she laughed as she stroked the mare's neck, calming her down considerably. Once the snowcap appaloosa was calmed down, Percy proceeded to lead the stocky equine through the barn, sliding open the large barn door and stepping out into the fresh, crisp air. It hadn't taken the pair long to reach the paddocks, what with Lupine's incessant tugging on the lead as she danced forward ahead of Percy in an attempt to quicken their pace to reach the paddocks. When they reached the paddock near the back where Lupine would be spending her day, Percy swung open the iron wrought gate and walked the pony inside, making her come to a full stop before unfastening the halter from her head. As soon as the halter was off, the mare gave a light shake of her head before she bolted straight off into the paddock, giving a few playful bucks, snorts escaping her nostrils as she frolicked in the grass.
