History: "I remember when we lost them." the brute's resonating voice bounced from the walls of the cave, echoing off into nothingness while his ears gently moved forward to capture any sound his sister made. "We were young, very young. And they... They fought so bravely, so hard, to keep our innocent eyes from the bloodshed outside." His eyes flickered, suddenly lost in the memories clashing through his head, slamming tears into his eyes that he fought so hard to keep back. He wouldn't cry yet, she needed to know what happened. "There was this group of lions, fire, death, earth... They attacked us, I guess mom and dad were on their land and they didn't like it. Mom refused to move us when we were so young, so we all hid. Dad hunted in the dead of night, kept us all fed and warm, but... They scented him." The indigo male's voice broke, causing him to pause and take a deep breath before he continued. "They came just as dad left, sneaky lions... Mom had gone out for a breath of fresh air, and they ambushed her. Her screams... as they.." He shook his head, violently, eyes shut tightly for a moment. "She was on fire. They lit her on fire. But mom, she fought anyway, even as flames licked at the beautiful set of wings she held so proudly on her shoulders." Maro dug his claws into the stone as if holding onto the present, as if he feared talking about the awful memory would drag him backwards in time to that day. "Dad heard her, he charged in with his head down to use his horns like battering rams. He distracted them long enough for mom to retreat back into the den and take you. She ran with you, and I tried to follow. She took you to a path, a well beaten path, and placed you under a tree snug in its roots before she charged back. She hadn't noticed me following her. Her fur.. so beautiful, so soft, was black and charred, her skin read and angry. They broke one of her wings, and it hung awkwardly as she charged back for me. I ran after her again, I knew you were safe, but I had this urge to help them." He sighed, folding his indigo ears back once more. "She was too late to save dad, and the second they saw her... she was gone too, just like that. The lions, they laughed, checked our den, and left. I-I tried everything I could think of, but they wouldn't wake up, and just got colder. Once I realized they wouldn't be coming back I dug them graves. It took forever, and my legs, claws, and paws ached by the time I was done, but they wouldn't be left out to rot. After I buried them, I came to find you, but, you were gone. I curled u among the roots, tears in my eyes, and wept until my body couldn't stay awake anymore, and I was asleep." Maro drew a shuttering breath, casting his gaze to his paws. "I woke up in the den of an odd lion with a red nose, he said his name was par, and that he had rescued me. I stayed with him, was there when he returned to the pride. We were happy, like father and son." -WIP, sorry if it's bad so far-
