Name:
Dexter
Gender:
Male
Favorite Candy:
If you asked Dex what his favorite candy would be, you'd probably get the noncommittal answer of 'I don't know, I like all candy', but that's mostly to avoid getting into a debate about whether his favorite candy actually is a candy. You see, Dex's favorite candy is actually the classic caramel apple. Why you ask? With a classic Granny Smith caramel apple, you get the bitter bite of apple along with the smooth sweet taste of the caramel. You can vary the flavor you can get by merely changing the type of apple, maybe you'd prefer a Gala apple instead of a Granny smith? Not a problem.
Dex has taken to making his own caramel apples, running trips to the grocery store to grab as many apples as he can buy along with as much caramel as he can buy. Sometimes Dex even buys sprinkles, peanuts, chocolate, or other delicious toppings for caramel apples. This often gets him odd looks from whatever poor cashier has to check out the many different apple types and seven bags worth of caramel, but Dex doesn't care. After all, he's so close to so many caramel apples isn't he?

It was getting close to Dex's last day of work in the pop-up halloween store he had chosen to work for this halloween season, and Dex wanted to do something special for his co-workers. He felt that they had become close over the last few months, and would be sad to see them go once the store closed for the season.
That at least explained why Dex was in the food coloring isle trying to figure out which color was in which bottle. The writing was so small, how was this a good business choice? More to the point, why was there only one brand? Dex was now forced to read the entire label just to find out what color it was. At least the apples and caramel hadn't been difficult.
Dex sighed, throwing the bottle of orange food coloring in the cart along with it's brother the red food coloring. His next mission was the chocolate, he needed milk chocolate, and white chocolate. Now that he thought about it though, he might as well throw dark chocolate in the mix as well. Lucky for him, chocolate chips were on sale. He grabbed 2 packs of each before going through the store again and buying things he actually needed.
...
The fridge door closed with a bang and a rattle, Dex had finished putting away the groceries. Now he could start making his coworker's treats. Dex began by melting the caramel in a pot on the stove, poking it with a spoon every few minutes to check it's progress. Once the caramel got close to hot enough, Dex started setting up the apples. He set the apples out in rows on wax paper, then began to skewer the apples with wooden sticks. Bringing the caramel over next, he dipped the apples in before setting them back down on the wax paper, making his way slowly and carefully through the rows. The extra caramel would go into molds Dex had gotten out previously, the bottoms layered with a small amount of sea salt. He left a little room in the top for later.
It wasn't until the caramel cooled that Dex began to heat up the chocolate, setting out three different pots with each type of chocolate. He started with one bag per chocolate type, and hoped that would be enough. Once it had heated enough for Dex to be happy he brought the pots over one by one and began dripping the chocolate over some apples. Each apple got at least one color, usually two, and the rest of the chocolate topped off the molds. He'd bring them in the next day, the last day he'd be working there this year.
...
Dex pulled into the parking spot, turning the keys and pulling the out before pulling himself out of the car. The keys were shoved into his pocket, and as he looked in the trunk he realized he couldn't carry the apples in by himself. Walking into the halloween store he approached the first coworker of his he saw, pulling them out to help him carry in the apples. It took two trips, but they managed.
Dex looped around the store, getting everyone to gather behind the counter before lifting the box lids and revealing the surprise that lay inside each box. What followed was something you might expect from a large group of best friends that had known each other since grade school.
