Another kind of reality.

Username : Яapscallion
Name : Seiryu Gender: Male

Seiryu, or the 'Azure Dragon,' is an Asian god and protector of the east and the season of spring. It is made up of the western zodiacs Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, and Sagittarius. The parts are - the horn and neck (Virgo), the chest and front foot (Libra), the stomach, heart, tail and back foot (Scorpio) and fertilizer and winds (Sagittarius) These aspects are not only in name, but in his personality as well.

Personality

Seiryu is, in the simplest term possible, mysterious. He is serious and speaks very little, opting to let others understand and interpret him in their own way. While his current companions find him stoic and to somewhat boring, folk out in the country tell otherwise. Why don't we look to the stars for this information?

Image

Femininity is a prominent idea held within people's view of 'Virgo', which is true and is one of the virgin's many aspects. Seiryu presents this quality with the modesty he's held in life, respecting other's ideals and wishes along with knowing that there is indeed a time and place for everything. Another piece of the astronomical maiden he's shown is his capability to learn quickly and work proficiently, working best when mending- whether it be a rip in a basket or a break in an arm. He can do this through feeling the object of interest. Lastly there is the restlessness of mind and body. Although seemingly calm and quiet, Seiryu may make rash decisions out of nowhere, and he constantly thinks about what's going on around him and of the time that's passed and to come.

Image

Seiryu's companions can agree that without him, they'd probably not have stuck together for as long as they have. Despite being much more hush than those around, this kalon is the key balance in the group. Nobody else knows, but each member tends to come to him when they need to vent their thoughts and ideas, knowing he wouldn't speak a word to anybody. He doesn't mind, and even secretly helps them in their endeavors when the moment is right.

Image

The power of the scorpion is most influential in Seiryu's persona, as it is the dragon's heart. Clouded in mystery, many cannot understand nor can they see his feelings or intentions clearly, sometimes coming to the wrong conclusions. Many find this mystifying sense almost spiritual, believing him to be one of otherwordly properties. His emotions are strung about by the scorpion's pincers, passions and loyalties clamped down powerfully in each claw. They are pinned down due to their intensity- if let go, Seiryu will crumble, and the silence will resonate with sound at last.

Image

As a youth, Seiryu was a free spirit, powered by the playfulness of the dragon. He was adventurous and a natural leader, but seemed to grow out of these qualities over time. This is not true- rather, he doesn't wish to show them. Seiryu feels acting a 'free spirit' is tiring, and being a leader even more so. But of course this isn't the reality we see. This kalon is incredibly independent, and is a factor in the decisions his group makes.

Reason for Blindfold / Sword
Characters are anthropomorphic

Image

Daiyabara, the legendary sword said to have slain the wild ikuchi lord Umi-oni-no-mikoto. The blood that spilled onto the blade created the unnatural blue roses, daiyabara, which are known only to Kyougokoro, a small village miles from civilization...

In this village the hero who wielded the legendary sword, Seiryu, is adored and blessed. There are festivals every year and every season celebrating his tale, and many children here are given the name 'Seiryu' out of hopes for a bright and fortunate future. The daiyabara are sacred, their petals priceless and said to heal any sickness. Their creator lies within a shrine surrounded by the flowers, locked by charms and chains carefully crafted using the daiyabara's incredibly strong leaves.

Now we speak of Seiryu, a youth within the village. He was a bit of a miscreant in his childhood, running around with a rag-tag gang of fellow children who caused many a ruckus. The village folk took care not to come about their destructive paths, tending to their fields and going about their work so they were too busy to get tangled in their banter. It wasn't too bad in all honesty- the worst they could do was paint your cows like tigers.

Since this was the most that happened in this quiet town, you can expect many settled here to live a homely life. They didn't need anything from the outside world, growing food, raising animals, and making clothes for themselves and each other. In secret, they gained riches through the mines within the mountains nearby, which harbored gold deep within. Nobody from outside knew about this.

Til then.

Image

In this world, the land still has streaks of the ikuchi lord Umi-oni-no-mikoto's reign. Demons saunter within the shadows, within trees, even within homes. Over the years many have come to blend in with the population, to the point of causing paranoia in some. However, due to festivals, blessings and charms they have been warded away. There are, of course, demons who do not fear these defenses...

On a sunny spring morning, a troupe of entertainers entered the village. It was a surprise, as they must have traveled far to come to this place. They were kind folk, and showed the people things both beautiful and strange.

A girl from the troupe, a lovely lass trained in the exotic art of belly dancing, was met by a curious Seiryu. They talked for some time, with the girl teaching Seiryu a bit about the dance and the acts her fellow peers performed. Seiryu quite liked this girl, embarrassed when he attempted to dance and promptly failed, but happy to have made her slip a giggle.

Later that night, the girl called to him. He awoke, and groggily went outside towards her voice. When he found her she looked a bit sheepish.

"Hello, Seiryu. I'm sorry for bringing you out so late, but I was curious about something..."

"Oh, it's okay... I, I understand." He gave a small laugh showing he wasn't upset. What're you curious about?"

"I heard from your people a story about the flowers that grow here. They say that they have an unnatural power, and were created by a sword... is this really true?"

Her eyes sparkled brightly, the moon shining onto her face through the leaves on the branches overhead.

"Yeah, it's true! We have a shrine in a huge flower patch where the sword is. You... wanna go see it?"

"Oh, do I!?"

The pair scampered towards their destination, silent as the shadows that followed them. Soon they saw the daiyabara, and as they continued on the trail became covered in the peculiar flowers. Their petals glowed, as if permanently covered in bright, sparkling dew. The glow illuminated the field, and in time the shrine could be seen with the diamond charms and chains binding its doors.

"You can't go inside, unfortunately. We keep it in there so nobody can destroy it."

"That's too bad."

The girl twirled, taking in the sights around her.

"I'm happy to have come here... it's so beautiful, so it's okay if I don't see the sword. I'd have liked seeing these flowers more anyways!"

They talked for some time on the shrine's steps, exchanging jokes and stories of varying interests. Finally they came to a halt in their conversation, and a question they'd have liked to avoid was eventually raised.

"So... when do you leave?"

Seiryu knew that she wasn't here to stay. Being an entertainer, it wouldn't do any good for them if they stayed in a place with little traffic, and they would not have anything to stand on. They could turn in their garb for farmer's clothes, but they'd lived their whole lives performing and travelling...

"When do I leave...? Um... we're set to leave in the morning..."

He heard the uncertainty in her voice. Why was that?

"Do you not want to leave?"

She looked Seiryu in the eyes, then tore away from his gaze. With a small shuffle of her feet, she gave her reply.

"We came here for something. I knew it wasn't for work... we don't go anywhere from the main places. But our leader insisted we did...!"

Image

There was a time where common folk could not see the demons. Only priests had the ability to 'see' them, but even then they were invisible to even a trained eye. During the ikuchi lord Umi-oni-no-mikoto's fight to take over the land, he unveiled all of demon-kind to prove his strength. This was, eventually, his undoing...

"Seiryu!"

A man ran towards the two, eyes wild and fur covered in ash. A fresh scar was slashed across his muzzle, and Seiryu stood in confusion.

"Get away from that girl!"

A hand shot forward, but it missed as Seiryu pulled her behind him.

"What's gotten into you?! What's happened...?"

"That troupe... nothing but a bunch of thievish devils! They've burnt our fields and homes, slashed the throats of our cows and pigs, taken our gold...!"

"What?! Where is everybody? Are they safe?"

"They're supposed to have escaped, but..."

"Go wherever the others have fled. Don't harm her- she's done nothing wrong."

Seiryu ran towards the village, and finally saw the ashes rising into the sky with sparks of flame reaching for the stars, wherever they may be. A scream was heard off in the distance, and the kalon shivered in fear. Carefully he trekked through the destruction, watching for anybody who might need help.

Finally he heard someone. Murmurs seeped from underneath a pile of fallen wood, and despite the heat Seiryu ran towards the source and shoved a plank from the pile.

Underneath was the village priestess, paws clasped together as she continued her prayer. She had terrible burn marks, but she did not flinch.

Seiryu intertwined his arms through her's, and pulled her from the rubble. He dragged her to the edge of the scene, and laid her against a tree away from the flames. As he wiped away ashes from her person, he took a look at her face and yelped in fear.

"Miss... your eyes...!"

Where her eyes were was just a deep gash across her face. Her white fur was mixed with black and red, but despite whatever pain she may have felt she kept her prayer going. Seiryu was shocked and confused even further.

"What are you praying for? We have to get you out of here!"

"Seiryu..."

Her voice was just a raspy whisper. Still there was strength, but it faltered.

"Seiryu... don't escape where the others have gone... the gods have told me, have told me... nobody, not a person...!"

The priestess coughed profusely, then took in a shaky breath.

"Dead... all dead! Their eyes have been taken... so they may suffer for eternity, blind and in pain! Oh, Seiryu... help them, help your people... the shrine has been unlocked, and there you may find our salvation..."

"The shrine? It's open? We have to get over there!"

"I'm sorry, Seiryu... but you must go on without me. I cannot allow myself to be a burden on you, and I have no further use in this world... go, go get Daiyabara, and vanquish the evil which have made us suffer!"

For a split second she held her jaw affixed on that last r, then hung limply as the life finally pulled from her. Seiryu laid her onto the ground, placing her hands over her chest and closing her mouth. For a second he looked over her, all those terrible burns and scars done in such a short amount of time. He stood, and ran towards the path.

The daiyabara seemed to glow even greater, illuminating the path so he may not lose his way. Wind whistled against his ears, traces of the ash's scent light on his nose yet heavy on his heart. When the shrine finally came into view, there were no charms or locks to be found. Seiryu ran up the steps, and flung its doors open.

Inside was indeed the legendary sword. Its blade was embedded into the ground, and there small daiyabara seeped from the opening like weeds. The hilt was covered in white charms, which flapped faintly in the small breeze. Seiryu looked in awe, finally able to see the fantastical object he'd heard from that story with his own eyes. He took a step inward, and made to grab the handle-

cut to black.

The one who destroyed the ikuchi lord Umi-oni-no-mikoto was one with an unknown past. Many say he was an orphan, others say he was an emperor's son. Even more believe he was a god brought to this earth. No matter how humble or romanticized his life was, all that mattered was that he was the one who brought peace to our lands...

"Seiryu."

Darkness. Only darkness was all he could see. He panicked, rapidly looking around, wondering where he was, why he was there.

"Calm, child. You are safe."

The voice was deep, and had a holy, serene feel to it. Seiryu's heart slowed into a steady beat, and he stood patiently.

"Why... why is it so dark all of the sudden? I was at the shrine, and I was just about to grab the sword...!"

"The sword does not answer without reason, Seiryu. Nor does it give without taking."

"My village is in peril though! I'm sure that's reason enough?"

"What village, son? Your village has vanquished, the fire eating away all memory of what has, was, and will be, your people slain by those with hearts blacker than the ocean's deepest depths. There is nothing left to fight for there."

"But the priestess... she told me they died and can't go to heaven! Those people took their eyes!"

"And here you shall now see why you have been called to the sword. As I said before, it does not give without taking, and it does not take without giving. You say your people cannot see their way to heaven?"

"Y-Yes..."

"Then let them see again."

"How am I supposed to do that?"

"Give them your eyes, so they may see again."

Seiryu was shocked at the proposal. How would his eyes help the dead? They were a living person's eyes- the dead have no use for the living.

"My eyes? But they're, well, alive!"

"Then dead, they will become. However, in order to enact this, you must give your blessing to allow this. We do not take what is not freely given."

Seconds passed as the kalon thought on this. If he gave up his eyes, then his people will be able to pass to the other world and not be stuck in a world they did not belong, but at the cost of his ability to see...?

"I... I'll do it. I'll give them my eyes, so they don't have to suffer."

A roaring wind festered around him, and he collapsed.

Image

Image
When Seiryu awoke, he opened his eyes to darkness. He looked around, frantically looking for a source of light, then felt the sun's warmth shining down on him. Then he remembered what had happened the night before. Still able to feel his eyes move, he knew they weren't usable anymore. He had no more use for them anyways- they were helping the restless finally find rest.

The kalon slowly sat up, and felt something heavy in his right hand. He gripped it, and realized it was Daiyabara. The sword felt light and cold, and as he raised it a petal landed on his snout. As he made to pick it off, he instead bumped his nose with his paw.

This was going to take some time to get used to.

Using the sword like a cane, Seiryu stood. With his free hand he felt downward, and touching the edge of his top ripped a long piece with the blade's sharp end. He wrapped the cloth around his head to cover his eyes, and with a feeling of certainty slowly and carefully walked down the shrine's steps.

In time he will find a group to call his own, in time he will learn to live in a world without light, and in time, he will know when his people have finally found rest.

His eyes dead and eyesight gone, Seiryu hopes his sacrifice helps the beloved people of his village find peace at last.

EXTRAS

General Information

    Name :: Seiryu (of Kyougokoro)
    Gender :: Male
    Birthplace :: Kyougokoro, Eastern Sea
    Occupation :: Traveler
Abilities :: Swordsmanship, Senryu, Advanced senses (due to eyesight loss)

Seiryu is named after the legendary warrior Seiryu, who wielded the mighty sword Daiyabara and slayed the ikuchi lord Umi-oni-no-mikoto hundreds of years before. His house name is his village's name, as the people did not travel, if at all and felt no need to differentiate themselves with differing surnames. He was the youngest son born to his parents, having only one older sister who moved away before the events that unfolded.

Just as everyone there he was born and raised in Kyougokoro, which is located by the eastern sea. Kyougokoro means town of spirits, which originally represented their excitable attraction to festivals and events. Now, though...

Seiryu becomes a traveler with a group of other folk he comes across. Deciding this was best as his inability to see may prevent him from doing certain things (such as reading) he sticks to them, but makes sure to deem himself 'independent' by not relying on them too much.

His abilities in swordsmanship are helped by his sword, which shifts its own weight in response to attacks. The lighter it is, the farther an enemy is. The heavier it is, the closer it is to striking. If there are no enemies, then it reflects the air's temperature- if there are foes, its blade becomes colder.

Seiryu is no stranger to the poetry that is senryu. Only a letter off of his own name, the legendary Seiryu was thought to dabble often in senryu, using his pieces as taunts while fighting against demons. An example of senryu poetry-

A crow calls out.
Everybody can hear-
They do not listen.

His eyesight gone, the kalon must use his other four senses to their fullest to make up for that lost sense. The senses of scent and hearing are especially honed, able to differenciate other beings by their smell and voice/movements. Touching is a lot more personal, as Seiryu knows that the others can forgive him for bumping into them, but he does not want to be seen as clumsy. This sense is used more for 'seeing' objects by imagining what'd it look through the context of what he feels. He is especially careful with this as he obviously cannot see whether what he holds is dangerous or not, and relies on others by listening to what they may say about it.

The story goes on...
Presented is an outline of his story. Not final, but a general idea. Story takes place from mid-teens to later twenties, finalizing around later thirties or forties.

Seiryu begins his journey within the remains of his village, feeling out for wherever his home had once stood. After finding his mother's treasured bangle, he takes it and makes his way to the outer path, fearing what he may find at the escape route. He wonders where the performers fled as he feels no trace of tracks from their carts.

His journey through the forest is an arduous one, fear and uncertainty clinging onto his every action. The strange calls of creatures unknown and nature's constant rustling did not help in the slightest. Eventually Seiryu learns to trust in Daiyabara, which allows him to protect himself and acts as a sort of guide down the beaten path. It is a week before he comes across another village, having slept very little and always on the move.

The village folk see him as a ragged street urchin who perhaps had stolen a sword. They avoid the child and ignore his pleas for help, sans an old woman from their own temple. She'd heard the gods on that day calling to her, sending Kyougokoro's reports her way and perhaps many other shrine maidens throughout the land. Her message to him was that of the maiden many years before- the demons were rising again, and he will have to destroy them were his people to rest.

Fresh clothes on his back and Daiyabara at his side, Seiryu makes his way throughout this mysterious new world with a definitive objective. He starts by visiting towns and meeting others in need of help, creating a reputation for himself as a 'wandering hero,' or a 'strange guy' to some. It is perhaps months before he meets the group which he will then travel with for most of his life, and it is this group that helps him achieve his goal, perhaps bringing peace to not only the spirits of Kyougokoro but also to all who has suffered.

ᴜsᴇʀɴᴀᴍᴇ julibee
ɴᴀᴍᴇ Elon
ɢᴇɴᴅᴇʀ male

------------------------------ɪ'ᴍ ғᴇᴇʟɪɴɢ ʟɪᴋᴇ ᴀ ɢʜᴏsᴛ

ᴘᴇʀsᴏɴᴀʟɪᴛʏ Elon is a contemplative sort, he's seen a lot in his years of travel. With his
dealings with those who have not had good lives and deaths, he finds it hard to feel anything
but apathy towards life. Still, he enjoys the company of others and doing what makes
people happy as he finds it allows him to vicariously experience joy and positive emotion
again. He's the person you can talk to about your interests or a pretty flower you saw that
day and he'll be more than happy to sit and listen.

ʀᴇᴀsᴏɴ ғᴏʀ ʙʟɪɴᴅғᴏʟᴅ/sᴡᴏʀᴅHe was born with the ability to see restless spirits who linger
in our world, and uses his sword to help them move on to the next life. Usually, he prefers to
keep his eyes covered, allowing him to go through life normally without seeing those who have
suffered

-------------------------ᴀɴᴅ ɪᴛ's ᴡʜᴀᴛ ɪ ʜᴀᴛᴇ ᴛʜᴇ ᴍᴏsᴛ

ʜɪsᴛᴏʀʏ Ever since birth, Elon's sight has been strange. He suffers from monochromacy, or
complete color blindness, rendering the world to him in shades of grey. As he grew, he realized
something else about his sight. Elon was capable of seeing things others couldn't, the spirits of
those who died and were unable to move on into the next life. The were a bright blue, and when
they appeared in his grey world he had no choice but to fixate on the points of color. It began to
affect his life, he didn't understand why they appeared to him and seemed to be calling to him.
He couldn't sleep, and he secluded himself as there were less in deserted places. Finally,
reaching a breaking point, he visited a priest who presided over funerals and pleaded for a way
to make it stop. Making himself a sword from blessed iron, he set out to help the spirits pass,
believing it would bring him peace.

---------------------------'ᴄᴀᴜsᴇ ɪ'ᴍ ɢɪᴠɪɴɢ ᴜᴘ ᴀɢᴀɪɴ

ᴛʜᴇ ᴅᴏᴡɴᴛᴜʀɴ As he began helping spirits pass, Elon realized that it was not as easy as he had
previously thought. Many resisted, trying to cling to their half-life in hope they could complete
unfinished business. When his sword passed through the spirits he became one with them for
a moment, feeling their pain, seeing their memories, and experiencing how they died. Mentally,
it took a toll on him, and now he binds his eyes so he can ignore the dead and try to recover and
live normally.

An old legend is known throughout the country.

'If you survive climbing the tallest mountain and bring an offering to the god,
your wish will be granted.'

A new legend spreads quickly through the country.

'A man rumored to see the dead,' a boy informs his brother.
'A mercenary of sorts, he just showed up one day,' a man tells his wife.
'I hear he's haunted by those whose lives he stole, that’s why he wears a blindfold,
so he can forget about them,' a woman whispers to her friend.

'...After being told about his parent's deaths in
battle, the boy wished to see them one last time.
He was too young then to go fight, however since
then he had practiced and trained with a sword
given to him by an old man, a friend of his
parents.

The old man told him about the god on the
mountain, who grants wishes. And thus
the boy began his trek towards the mountain.

The boy offered a handful of blue roses to the
god, and spoke his wish. The god said nothing
in return and disheartened, the boy descended
the mountain. As he walked, the boy noticed
blue petals falling around him, landing on the
ground. Looking up for the source, they petals
touched his eyes and they burned.

Wiping the petals from his eyes, he could see
the faint form of another figure before him. He
called out to the figure but gained no response.
Over and over again he called, only met with the
same silence. He passed several more similar
figures on his trek down and no matter how much
he tried to speak with them, they never responded.

He met up wit the old man at the bottom of the
mountain and together they walked to back to
their home. During the walk, the boy kept seeing
the figures and tried pointing them out to the old
man. The old man, however could not see them.
The boy frowned, but continued to point out
and call out to the faint figures.

Suddenly a pair of the figures turned to the boy as
he called, and his eyes widened at what he saw.
Even though it was faint, he could tell it was his
parents. Their bodies were not as he remembered,
as when they were living, no they looked just how
they did the night they died, impaled and bloody.
The boy felt faint. He turned away from them,
however he knew they were following him. And as
the followed, more of the figures joined them.

He took the old man's hand and raced home, tears
running down his face. Running to the bathroom, he
grabbed some old bandages and wrapped it around
his face, over his eyes, cutting off his vision until
the end of time..."
