My mom's family is from Idaho so I can't even tell you how many dishes we eat that all star potatoes as a main ingredient; but my favorite by far are mashed potatoes. I love all sorts, no matter what's in them. Mashed potatoes are incredible. I particularly love eating them when I'm sick; just whip up a big pot and you can eat out of it for days. When I got my wisdom teeth removed and couldn't eat any solid foods my surgeon was the one who recommended I eat them, and begrudgingly I agreed to try. In pain and sick from the meds I expected the encounter to be a disaster, but in fact they tasted incredible. Now they're my go to comfort food. I'll even tolerate instant, when I don't have the time or motivation to make them myself. Mashed potatoes are good no matter the form.

Explanation: Lamb stuffed squash; it's a recipe from my great grandfather's home country of Lebanon. My Grandmother always made it when we were either celebrating something or particularly during Christmas, when we'd have family or guests over. Not only is the recipe absolutely amazing taste and presentation wise, but it really reminds me of just one part of my cultural roots, and it's almost humbling in a weird way.

Explanation:
Peach Cobbler has always been a family dessert; my mother would make it when we had rough days in school, when a friend or loved one moved/passed away, when our pets passed away. It's just something that gives me a connection to happy times when things are rough; and, to top it off, I can always easily switch in what type of fruit I feel is better suited for the mood. Cherries, blackberries, apples... In any case, the warmth of it after it comes out of the oven and the smell while its baking make my storms calm when I need to take a breather.
