It was a gloomy day in the city as ash gray clouds loomed overhead.
Senri pulled the hood of his sweatshirt over his head as heavy drops
began to pelt the pavement. His backpack of necessities and
belongings weighed heavily on his shoulders.
Passerby passed without a glance in his direction as the
tan-colored Kalon pedaled by each of their umbrellas. No one
wanted to be in the cold rain for too long, after all. Senri, however,
was in no rush. Taking a swig of his overly bitter coffee, he hummed
a quiet tune while curiously eyeing the store signboards above. The
nearest fast food building was twenty blocks away, so he had some
time to dawdle around until he got there.

Senri rode along the sidewalk, about to take another sip before his bike jolted upwards. Brown liquid flew up towards his face and sweater. Groaning, he stopped next to some shrubbery before checking his shirt. "Completely stained," Senri muttered with a dejected sigh.
The Kalon looked around for a quick way to fix the problem before spotting a self-serve laundromat on the other side of the street.
Looks like I've still got a bit of luck on my side. Mounting his old blue bike, Senri switched his backpack to the front of his body so the stain was covered. Bumping down from the curb onto the blacktop, he peeked past a car for any drivers to the left. After confirming that no one was approaching, he started across the road.
"Good thing a laundromat was so clo -"
Beep! The collision happened too quickly for poor Senri to realize what was happening. He noticed a fleeting feeling of weightlessness as a force from the right tossed him off his bike before he hit the ground. Sharp gravel pierced his face as his head slammed down after his body, causing him to black out.
---
Senri twitched as images of cars flashed by his close-lidded eyes. They seemed to be honking at him, but the beeping sound wasn't quite right. It was too thin and high-pitched.
Suddenly, his eyes snapped open. Deep brown orbs shot around frantically as he took in his environment.
A hospital? He spotted his gray backpack in the corner of the room. A monitor nearby appeared to be the cause of the beeping sound as it syncronized with images of his heartbeat.
A Kalon in a white coat spoke up, smiling comfortingly at him. "Hello Mr. Rosen, it seems you have woken up. My name is Dr. Aurelius and I've been taking care of you. Do you remember what happened the last time you were conscious?"
Senri blinked confusedly. "No. What am I doing here?" The tan-colored Kalon, after realizing he was on a bed, began sitting up. He winced as a sharp pain vibrated throughout his head.
The doctor glanced at some papers in his hand. "According to witnesses, you were biking across the street when a car hit you. The driver escaped the scene." His eyes flicked over to Senri. "You have no permanent injuries, which is fortunate; however, you did sustain a concussion and minor wounds, so I do not suggest getting up again."
"Oh..." Senri mumbled, looking down. "Do you know what happened to my bike?"
Dr. Aurelius stared apologetically. "It was run over. Someone has probably disposed of it."
Senri nodded and leaned farther into the pillowcase, sighing. "Thanks anyway."
---
For the next two weeks, Senri was forced to recover until he was finally discharged.
"Thank you, have a good afternoon," the female at the front desk told him as he exited the building.
"Those hospital bills weren't pretty," he said with a sigh, staring at his wallet. He still had enough to go on for a long time, but being hospitalized definitely didn't help. Senri frowned, knowing he would need a new bike. Maybe he would find a fair-priced one to make his day better.
After walking for some time with a map, the Kalon came across a bike shop. He sniffed a couple times to get accustomed to the rubbery scent before browsing the selection.
"Hi! Would I be able to help you with anything?" a peppy Kalon asked Senri. He turned to the employee.
"Do you have any long-lasting bikes that aren't too expensive? I don't care what color," he replied. The employee bobbed their head and led him to an array of bikes. After testing each one out, Senri decided on a sturdy silver one.
Paying for the bike, Senri left the store with a grin. The past few events hadn't been too nice to him, but in the end, he was happy. The Kalon hummed the song he usually did until something warm hit his head.
"Huh?" Senri patted his head and stared down at the contents on his hand. A liquidy white substance that was mixed with dark chunky spots. "Bird poop?"
Following a string of curses, thorough washing of his hair, and a promise to never hum that accursed song again, Senri continued his travels. This time, remembering to look both ways before crossing any street.

Senri doesn't like acknowledging his worst flaw and even tries to
cover it up. Under his smiling exterior, the Kalon is very distant. His
parents didn't care for him much and weren't home for most of his
childhood.
Due to the lack of close relationships throughout his life, Senri can
be socially awkward at times and has slight troubles with speaking
properly to others. He cannot seem to form bonds that result in tight
friendships, resulting in him being quite lonely. When Senri was still
in high school, he would have attempted to get closer to his friends
if it weren't for his inexperience and insecurities. Unfortunately, he
cannot confront his flaw and doesn't want to nor know how to ask for
help.
Often, his dark eyes will mirror the sadness that he feels because
of this ugly part of himself. Senri tries to use kindness and a
humorous personality to hide it so he doesn't give off an
unfriendly impression. He will force every laugh and smile to any
'yo mama' joke, even if it means he falls more and more to the
clutches of his biggest flaw.
Senri's flaw has ultimately led him to the decision of leaving his
home to travel the world at eighteen in hopes of meeting new
faces to quench his loneliness; however, the plan backfired on
him, as he never stayed in one place long enough to form good
friendships. On the bright side, he was able to meet new
individuals that helped him along his journey and put a true
smile on his face.

Olive's Coffee and CafΓ©.Senri dismounted his slightly-rusted silver bike before guiding it across the lot, leaning it against the cafe's brick wall. Ever since he was eighteen, he'd travelled the world alone after leaving his parents. Senri had survived with the little money he'd earned from his desk job and some money stolen from his parents' bank account. Now, as a twenty-two year old, Senri was making his way across Canada.
Stepping inside the cafΓ©, he felt cold air and sweet coffee blow past his face. The atmosphere was accompanied by warm ceiling lights, plush leather chairs, and a wide display of pastries. Senri headed to the counter and was greeted by a kind-faced female Kalon. "Hi, how may I help you?"
"I'll have a black coffee," he said shortly, cracking a smile. The girl nodded before prepping a coffee maker.
As he waited, Senri stared out the window and breathed outwards. His attention was directed toward the female employee for a moment to hand her his credit card before he resumed looking ahead. The Kalon watched with hazy eyes as another Kalon walked past the cafΓ© before stopping at his bike. They glanced around quickly before hopping on it and peddling off.
Senri had to snap out of his daze by blinking a few times to realize what was happening. "Stop, thief! That's my bike!" he shouted, pushing past customers as they shot him dirty looks. He burst out the door and dashed down the pavement, ignoring the cars that honked around him. He howled obscenities as the thief made the mistake of turning to gape at him, showing his face in the process.
---
Back at the coffee shop, the Kalon who had been serving Senri gnawed on the corner of her mouth as she eyed the credit card in her hand, belonging to 'Senri Rosen.' The customer had suddenly yelled and left the shop, abandoning his card and coffee in the process.
"Hey, Emma? Can you take the counter over for me? I've got to step out for a bit," she said, leaving the cafΓ©. Head whipping back and fourth, she picked up the sound of Senri's shouts as he weaved through a crowd. She ran to the back of the shop and brought her motorcycle to life before zooming down the street to follow Senri.
---
"Please stop!" Senri screeched helplessly, looking around for something that could help him. He could throw an object at the thief, but if they fell and broke his bike, he wouldn't be able to get a new one. Adrenalin pumped through his veins as he followed the Kalon, wondering if he would ever catch up.
His thoughts were interrupted by the sound of an engine roaring past him. "Get off that bike!" a motorcycle rider commanded to the thief, dangerously waving around a pocket knife. The thief yelped before making a turn into an alleyway. The rider cursed before parking her motorcycle.
Senri caught up to the girl, huffing. "W-Where did... he go...?" he asked between breaths. She pointed down the alleyway.
Senri sped past the tight walls and garbage bags of the alley before spotting a dead end. On the ground, the thief was groaning from a probable collision with the brick wall. Senri stepped forward, retrieving his bike while watching Kalon's back in case of escape, assuming that they were even able to in their state. The female motorcyclist ran in at that moment, eyeing the situation.
Senri realized who the female Kalon was, but before he could say anything, she held up a phone with a nod. "911," she murmured before speaking to the person on the other line.
---
"So, do you live around here?" she asked, watching as Senri mounted his bike and slipped on a backpack. She handed him his credit card and now-cold coffee, which he accepted.
"No. I don't stay in one place for too long," he replied, staring at the sun as it began its descent. "There's no one there for me if I go home," he whispered inaudibly.
Senri gazed at the female Kalon and gave a bright smile. "Thanks for the help. I'd better be off." "You're welcome, Senri," she replied with a grin back. Senri nodded before pushing his foot against the pedal and leaving, off into the setting sun for another adventure.
As he pedaled down the blacktop, he glanced over his shoulder with wide eyes. The employee had known his name, probably from when she had checked his credit card. Unfortunately, he forgot to ask for hers. Shaking his head, he continued on without turning back. It was better that she didn't get to know him, anyway.
Don't let anyone get close, his mind echoed.
