Name -- Chestnut
Sex -- Cow
What they take pride in --
Chestnut is proud of their ability to climb mountains. As a calf, they were never the sporty type. They were picked last in chasing or rough-and-tumble games. At that point in their life, Chestnut never thought that they would be such an active bovine. However, as an adolescent, they began to explore much more about themselves that they had previously suppressed. Their fluctuating gender was the main thing that they had tried to keep hidden. They began to take long walks, alone in the mountains. It would strike some as a dangerous pastime, but Chestnut never took unnecessary risks. They feel in love with the mountains, with the challenges, dangers and beauties that each walk brought to them. Chestnut could be themself in the mountains. Gradually, they began to notice that they were stronger and more observant than they had been before they got into the habit of mountain climbing.
Like most cattle, Chestnut was not destined to stay in their birth herd forever. They soon found themself changing hands from one human to another. Chestnut was transported across the sea in a cargo ship that held a lot of other animals, mostly livestock. Their new home turned out to be very different from the one that they had always known- it was smaller, for a start. Regardless of the changes, it didn't take long for Chestnut to escape the pasture and set off towards the hills.
Initially, Chestnut's meanderings almost drove the staff at the farm to distraction. The bovine was determined to continue their walks, and strong enough to act on this determination. It was when Chestnut almost destroyed the pasture fence that the humans admitted defeat. Chestnut is now allowed out for several hours everyday. The humans soon noticed Chestnut's habit of always returning to the farm. Well, almost always. There was one day when Chestnut wasn't there waiting to be let into the field. On her mountain journeying, the bovine had found a young goat, who was bleating that she had lost her mother. Chestnut travelled across the hill, carrying the young animal when she tired, and it was sunset when she eventually found the goat's mother. Chestnut and the young goat are now good friends. As they walk together in the hills, Chestnut knows that they couldn't be prouder of their unlikely talent at mountain climbing, and of the good that it has done.
