About Me;;Hello! I'm ~Prophecy~! I am a nonowner but I have been wanting a plume since I first laid eyes on one. When I was new I didn't understand closed species and saw a lot of mods hanging around them. I stayed away because I didn't know people could just adopt them. I don't know if I thought you had to pay for one, or if I thought I wasn't powerful enough to get one, but I do know I just generally didn't want to be a bother trying to figure out what to do. I have only been active in species like these for a short while, but already have a few of my own. There is Cadmium the Voxxie, Crow the Vaiki, Seafoam the RPW, and a few others! I love them all, but I'll always have a place in my heart for a plume!

Shade is a grumpy featherbutt. He will try to tear down everything good and make it bad. He will find some way to make something bad. It ranges from something small like "These were more spicy last time!" To larger things like "He is very kind but his nose is so big! What is he? Pinocchio?!"
His rude comments have made a lot of plumes not like him, but he doesn't really care. He prefers being alone anyway!
Shade is a bit of a daredevil. He loves skateboarding on extreme cources, he loves being up high, and nothing can stop him from doing dangerous activities.
His eyes glow brightest when he is excited or angry. Thrills like bungee jumping and fighting make them light up more than Times Square.

name; era. they have no last or middle names.
sexuality; asexual.
birthday & age; born on what was declared to be 'the day of rejoicing' [later to be revised to 'the day of unknown misfortune']. they are estimated to be about 22 years of age in this form.

lore; in era's home culture, there was a heavily religious theme, one still unknown to the western world. it
was believed that gods roamed the earth, seen only by those who were pure enough. as such, it was mandated that everybody had to have their own room, hoping that would keep the small tribe pure enough to attract attention from a god [honestly, pick a god, any god and they would want a visit]. it was believed that women who were plain in color would be most likely to attract a god, since the god's colors would be shown in any offspring they had. thus, when a young woman became pregnant and nobody remembered her being in any contact with other plumerians. immediately, the whole tribe shifted attention to her, making her the center of attention and doing their very best to keep her healthy. it continued like that for the duration of the pregnancy, with lots of ceremonies happening almost daily once her due date neared. in these ceremonies, rituals were performed, determining everything from the name of the demigod to what time of day would be ideal to have them, in order to maximize the powers from the unknown god that had bestowed this child upon them. many were praying for a blue child, who would symbolize plenty of rain to come. others prayed for green, to symbolize a healthy harvest of crops, while others begged the gods to send a brown child to help livestock. others still yearned for healthy reds and oranges and yellows, wanting triumph and glory to shower upon the lands. a consensus had to be made though, to focus all of the desires upon one goal that would benefit them all. in the end, rich crops were decided to be the most beneficial for the group.
as such, when the mother went into labor, she was all painted up in green and had been on nothing but a vegetarian diet. she had been sleeping on naught but grass beds, had to wear leaves for clothing--honestly, what wouldn't these people do? spirits were high, the baby was coming at the right time and had a name decided upon--era.
yet... the baby wasn't what they had hoped. the baby was black, a far cry from green. unrest rippled upon the village when the child was presented, malcontent mutters meandering through the congregation. of course, the eyes weren't open yet, so that could still be it, but a demigod with dark colors?... that wasn't boding well. attention was already shifting from the scared mother to the suddenly ill-omen bearing era. her fate depended on the color of their eyes when they were opened. in the meantime, she was allowed to retreat into privacy, the consuls tending to her and the child.
of course, the moment those eyes opened, doom was spelled out clearly in the red glow spilling forth. the consuls reacted obviously and strongly, one shouting curses as he backed away, another sprinting for the door in hysterics. era's mother fainted, nobody there to catch her as the turmoil quickly spread. before long, it was known throughout the tribe that all their efforts had been for naught, and that a god of death had cursed them. the blessing they had lauded so recently was suddenly crumbling, contaminated, cursed and unwanted. thankfully for era, they couldn't be killed to stave off the negativity as the tribe was afraid of invoking the wrath of whichever god had done this.
their name; era's name was picked to signal the beginning of a wealthy time. they were supposed to be a harbinger of plentiful food, of celebrations and well-being. they were supposed to be the one to bring a long span of greatness to the tribe--and here they were, now ushering in what many thought would be the era of death. the name that was to bring hope and plentiful bounty was now dreaded for what it could bring in in lieu of joys.
their childhood; as can be figured by the reaction to era's appearance, they did not live the best of childhoods. everybody was comforted by the fact that era kept their eyes closed almost constantly, until somebody pointed out that it could be a curse that could spread and smite them all. thus, they were kept confined, not brought anywhere. they weren't neglected, nor welcomed. they were merely tolerated and provided the basic amount of care to keep them alive. they grew quite good at keeping themselves entertained, often fixating on textures found in their room. unknown to them, almost everything they did was being relayed out, speculated about, and condemned. their obsession with the cold bumpiness with the wall? clearly, they're possessed. they never open their eyes? that's the only preventative measure that keeps the curses from weeping from their eyes. superstitions swirled around the otherwise entirely innocent actions of the child, not dying even years after their birth.
the liberation; when era was about seven, everybody was finally starting to relax about their birth [yes, these people hold really long grudges]. the child was slowly being accepted, although everybody was still wary. people were helping them venture out of their room, still with the bare level of tolerance but slightly more desire to assist the tribe's demigod. the superstitions were slowly fading, everybody assured by the fact that era kept their eyes shut almost constantly. nobody knew why that was, but they weren't about to question the terrible red glow being kept away from the world. it almost seemed as though all was well...
until odd people started coming through. they were interested in investigating every facet of the tribe's life, figuring it all out and piecing it together. they spoke oddly, and seemed really confused over era's status as a demigod. by this age, the child was well aware of at least their birthright and why everybody was scared, if not about the rumors still digging at their reputation. they seemed delighted that people were finally giving them lots of positive attention, but were confused about inquiries over their eyes.
unknown to the invaders, they had brought diseases the tribe hadn't been exposed to and thus were quite vulnerable to. of course, the tribe had their own issues to pass back to the invaders, but the two were not equal in how threatening they could be. when people began falling ill, all blame immediately fell to era, who grew afraid of leaving their room once more, visited only by the invaders. when era became sick as well, nobody was willing to help them, or go near them, figuring it was a sickness demon finally finishing its work by destroying its vessel. at some point--nobody knew exactly when--era went missing. anybody with insight would know it was when the visitors also took their leave. everybody was relieved to have lost era [that was when they started recovering from their illness, and assumed that it was due to era's 'self destruction' rather than the infection simply running its course], and era--far more ill than anybody else had been due to the lack of attention--would soon be happy to be whisked off to britain.
an adjustment; the culture shock was severe. technologies were limited in era's home culture, so all these... advancements, as they were called, were completely foreign to the child. the feeling of everything was unfamiliar--they got scared often during the journey to britain, unable to discern what was happening and not able to understand the explanations. they resorted to simply sleeping and laying in a state of shock in their room, until they were actually taken to a hospital. that was even freakier--there was no serenity, no way for them to sleep without pressures [earmuffs] on their ears. the hospital staff weren't really sure what to do. it's not every day that somebody comes back from an expedition and brings you a sick child with no concept of western cultures. at least, by some miracle, the language barrier wasn't severe. the child simply had an odd accent, as if their culture had sprouted off from english years ago and merely continued on its merry way with no contact to modern cultures. obviously there were odd words in there too, but it was almost the same for the most part.
once era was mostly recovered, debates started on what to do with them. some voted to return them to their home land--others argued that the home land had seen era as a curse and practically neglected him. it was decided that era could be put into foster homes, in the mean time. a doctor took them in, proud that she was chosen to be their temporary caretaker. her responsibilities included getting to know them, taking them for many more checkups than they had already had, and many more things. her first priority was getting their eyes checked--she had never seen them open, and was slowly starting to be concerned for their well being. it took the optometrist a while because era started screaming whenever their eyes were opened and lights were shone in. the glow freaked the other plumerians out at first, but they just assumed it was a genetic anomaly. after a while, they managed to get numbing drops in era's eyes, hoping that would help, but it didn't really. it was nigh on impossible to actually determine what was going on with era awake, so they chose to put era under. when asleep, era couldn't respond of course, but the optometrist had to check everything manually. nothing really seemed unhealthy, so they determined that era was suffering a severe form of photophobia, or extreme sensitivity to light. since they had protested opening their eyes hurt their head, it seemed a logical conclusion. a neurologist was brought in, and she was able to determine that it was a neurological issue of the brain interpreting everything as far brighter than it actually was.
thus, there was no fix. era was simply given incredibly dark sunglasses and sent on their merry way.
the sunglasses were that child's salvation. with them, they were able to open their eyes at times, with the severity of the pain far reduced. they were able to start garnering interest in their environment, and activities outside of the simple busywork they had given themselves back at home. the doctor was pleased, as she was able to watch era blossom into an engaged and [relatively] active child. after about a year and a half of legal battles, moral debates, and scientific considerations, it was determined that era's well being was best improved by residence in great britain, with their foster mother.
moving forwards; while incredibly dark glasses made it possible for era to keep their eyes open for more than a couple minutes at a time, they were unable to see very well due to the tint of the lenses. as such, they were declared legally blind, and their adoptive mother began teaching them braille. as they grew, they considered multiple options to help with operating as a functional person, but opted not to get a seeing eye dog until they were an adult, figuring they could bond better with the partner as an adult rather than a still-developing youth. as such, era used a cane. as they weren't completely blind, they were still able to use what little sight they did have to help with navigation. they did only have so much time to keep their eyes open each day, and acted conservatively with it. as their dexterity in navigating the british land grew, so did their other senses. one would expect hearing or sense of smell or touch to develop strongly, but era was incredibly sensitive to taste. this had been developing since childhood, but they were only able to pinpoint the stronger sense once they were introduced to the modern concepts. of course, taste only helped them determine what not to put in their mouth. thus, era was also taught strengthening exercises of sorts for their hearing and tactile senses since they could better assimilate the world with them.
now, once era hit the age of about twelve, they had acclimated to their new surroundings enough that their mother believed they could handle public school. they were entered into the school system nearest her workplace so that she could quickly and easily be reached in a time of need. plopped right down in year seven, they quickly returned into the sort of quiet and unassuming persona that they had been in before their removal from their home culture. they had gotten lots of medical and educational intervention in their years before this, sure, but they had received very little socialization with children their age and were thus left unprepared to handle it well. they did persevere though, not dropping out despite their fervent desires to do anything but school. it wasn't long before they managed to start making a couple of friends here and there, acquaintances scattered across the board, allies about the place. by the time they hit year twelve, they had found an identity they were comfortable with for themselves, and had a social group that supported them. they even had a style--to make the dark sunglasses look like more of a personal choice rather than medical necessity, they had opted for a sort of 'punk' style to make it look more like they were trying to be cool instead of pain-free.
into the present; due to their severely impacted eyesight, era did not have much hope for their future. they still had an accent tinging their every word, they struggled with braille and learning in general, and they weren't sure what sort of job they could have. their mother wasn't the coddling sort, something they had sort of expected, what with her being a doctor and all. they're currently working a rather droll job, scooping ice cream for hours on end. on the plus side, they now had awesomely muscled forearms. while their job is not the most exciting, their clothing choice is certainly more eccentric and thrilling. one of the things their adoptive mother did was to let them wear whatever they wanted. she had a hunch that they would have no idea of what would be considered gender appropriate clothing, and she tested it, by letting them wear whatever they wanted. since they didn't even really look at what others wore, they didn't have the opportunity to learn by observation. thus, they honestly wear whatever they want to--usually, they choose based on the texture of the clothing and what sort of touch they want to feel today. thankfully, somebody goes shopping with them and makes sure that none of the colors can clash. in their home life, it's not too eventful. they moved out, got an apartment, and currently just live with a bunch of plants. they're easy-going plants, not hard to take care of and mostly picked out based on textures. when home alone, era navigates solely by touch instead of using their sunglasses. it's not that difficult, since they spent a lot of their childhood navigating blindly.
╞════════════════╡●..●..●..●..⚫..●..●..●..●╞════════════════╡
eclectic; era still clings onto habits drawn from their childhood, still has remnants of the old culture clearly showing through in their mannerisms. even more behaviors drawn from their foster mother's very clinical way of raising them set them apart from the rest of society. as such, the variety of backgrounds from which they were raised in all mix and clash together into one very eccentric, oddly dressed being. they manage to get by however, since they never managed to pick up a fear of that others thought amongst all the influences making them into who they are.
textile-oriented; because of their eyesight, era is very attuned to touch-based sensory input. they often intrude on other's personal boundaries without asking, remembering them by the feeling of their hair. it's the easiest way for them to tell others apart. voices are another clue, yes, but it isn't until the auditory clues are mixed with the textile clues that they can immediately tell who it is [unless they're quite familiar with the voice].
picky; despite how they learn about their world mostly by touch, era is incredibly picky about what they do touch. certain textures set off an unwanted and uncontrolled physical response, often manifesting as a jerk of their arm or something else along those lines. this extends to taste--it took the doctors ages to get era up to a normal weight after their rescue, as they weren't used to much more than bland foods. they had an easily triggered gag reflex and the doctors took quite a long while working up era's tolerance to foods. they didn't bother trying to work on era's tolerance of other textures, just this one. this character trait also extends to what era tolerates in their life--they can easily get irritated by teasing, unable to understand sarcasm and stuff like that.
standoffish; even though era will deny it when questioned, they still believe they truly are the offspring of a mortal and an unknown god of death. this does come across in their attitude--they're rather afraid of people finding out and judging them for it. while they had been okay with being ignored for most of their childhood, a repercussion now surfaces in that they often crave attention from as many sources as they can muster. unfortunately, their adoptive mother and most of the other doctors had been very skeptical of them declaring themselves to be only half mortal. the lack of belief from those they looked up to put them off sharing the information, but it was a long standing belief for enough of their life that they still believe themselves to be a demigod.
╞════════════════╡●..●..●..●..⚫..●..●..●..●╞════════════════╡
personal life; era only works a bare minimum of hours, just enough to get by. they do collect disability benefits due to being legally blind, thus allowing them to scrape by the way they are. what few extras they do have in their house include plants and one fish tank that doesn't hold any fish. The plants are mostly soft, fuzzy little succulents, and a delightful little sprout called lambsear. these are clearly touch-oriented for them, as they enjoy stroking the leaves. now the fishtank used to have fish, but they overfed them. they don't know they overfed the fish yet, they still think they have live fish in their tank. their mom found all the fish dead one time, and managed to remove them when era was too distracted to listen for the water sounds. it's kind of saddening to think about it, but they're happy.
for the rest of their entertainment [because they certainly would be a boring person if they sat about all day scooping ice cream and then stroking plants] they also sometimes wander about town. they sometimes navigate blindly, or find a safe space and navigate by touch. they sometimes find textiles they like, and will try to take them home so they can have the texture to touch again later (they don't always understand the concept of personal property and not being able to take everything they like the feeling of). the worst thing they've tried to take? somebody's weave. a terrible day, really.
morals; while era has almost entirely adapted to the ways of their new homeland, they do have some habits, morals, and other rituals or behaviors residual from their childhood. for example, they did try to remember ceremonial days from their youth, but they couldn't translate the calendar dates from their home culture to the modernistic calendar. moral-wise, they still have a tendency to show entitlement. they were allowed almost anything they asked for as a child (although, they asked for very little as they didn't know how much they were entitled to when still treated as a demigod.
now, birthdays are confusing to them. they were given bi-annual ceremonies, two a year, and were unable to distinguish those from the celebration of their birth. it was mandatory that they received the celebrations as a demigod, but the village tended to treat it as a way to appease the deity that fathered them so that no further curses would be strewn across the land.
