Squall would gladly throw away his life at any given moment for those he loves and holds dear. If pushed to a certain extent, he would rather give up something close to him rather than let someone else suffer. Squall does what he can for everyone, so others can sleep a little bit better at night.

Diplomatic and Elegant
Squall knows exactly how to behave to impress and, through that, achieve what he wants. His manners are refined and calculated and his words are chosen with great care in order to appease the listener. He might have no reason to behave like that anymore - as this is wartimes, but those are not traits easily lost. He's gracious and sophisticated even when doing the simplest of the tasks. A few might say it is because he refuses to let his old self go, the one who had a prideful position and undoubted importance.

Responsible and Principled
Squall's life was completely built upon what would benefit his kind and what not. There's a strong sense of responsibility within him, and he puts his duties and principles above anything, whatever they are. As an example, Squall chose to walk the battle field with the warriors and heal them - instead of staying in the safety of home camp to wait for the injured to come to him. Though to many it may seem like an act of self-neglect, Squall firmly believes that his actions would better serve his people.

Passionate and Driven
No matter what the task, Squall devotes himself completely and whole-heartedly. He will do whatever it takes, and will make sure that it is done right. He cares a lot about others' happiness and cannot stand seeing others in pain. Sometimes he cares to much, becoming a bit of a perfectionist and control-freak when he's stressed out, and easily gets his heart broken.

Inflexible and Unwavering'
For good reason, Squall has decided he won't compromise his beliefs or his duty for the sake of anyone. He will obey his leader without question of course, but should they disagree he will make that perfectly clear. While he would still go beyond the call of duty in a heartbeat to help his people, he wouldn't do so if he felt what they were doing was wrong. He won't bend the rules for anyone else's benefit, nor his own.
